Suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen...

If it registers in your mind and you realize it and appreciate it. Say it or at least enjoy it while it lasts. Not many can do that.

Ch: aa aa aa..

M: suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen
hume dar hai hum kho na jaaye kahin
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen

(yeh kaun hansta hai phoolon mein chhup kar
bahaar bechain hai kis ki dhun par) (2)
kahin gungun kahin runjhun ke jaise naache zameen
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen
hume dar hai hum kho na jaaye kahin
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen

(yeh gori nadiyon ka chalna uchhalkar
ke jaise alhad chale pee se mil kar) (2)
pyaare pyaare yeh nazaare nikhaar hai har kahin
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen (2)
hume dar hai hum kho na jaaye kahin
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen

oh ho ho (2)
ho..

woh aasmaan jhuk rahaa hai zameen par (2)
yeh milan humne dekha yahin par

woh aasmaan jhuk rahaa hai zameen par
yeh milan humne dekha yahin par
meri duniya mere sapne milenge shaayad yahin
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen (2)
hume dar hai hum kho na jaaye kahin
suhaana safar aur yeh mausam haseen

Yeh raat bheegi bheegi...

It's the evergreen music and lyrics that keep this one alive, oh wait.. it's the singers too! :) Can't forget them, can we?

Songs of this film were one of the first ones I remember listening to as a child and I think that's what keeps them so close to heart.

I adore Nargis in this one... so simple and so beautiful.

M: (yeh raat bheegi bheegi yeh mast fizaayen
utha dheere dheere woh chaand pyaara pyaara) (2)

F: aa aa aa aa.. aa aa aa...
kyon aag si lagaake gum-sum hai chaandni
sone bhi nahin deta mausam ka yeh ishaara

(what fun music!)

M: ithalaati hawaa neelam sa gagan
kaliyon pe yeh behoshi ki nami
aise mein bhi kyon bechain hai dil
jeevan mein na jaane kya hai kami

F: kyon aag si lagaake gum-sum hai chaandni
sone bhi nahin deta mausam ka yeh ishaara
M: yeh raat bheegi bheegi yeh mast fizaayen
utha dheere dheere woh chaand pyaara pyaara

(Notice how all of a sudden it changes to haunting music here!)

F: jo din ke ujaale mein na mila
dil dhoondhe aise sapne ko
ek raat ki jag-mag mein doobi
main dhoondh rahi hoon apne ko

M: yeh raat bheegi bheegi yeh mast fizaayen
utha dheere dheere woh chaand pyaara pyaara
F: kyon aag si lagaake gum-sum hai chaandni
sone bhi nahin deta mausam ka yeh ishaara

(got goosebumpy music?)

M: aise mein kahin kya koyi nahin
bhoole se jo hum ko yaad kare
F: ek halki si muskaan se jo
sapnon ka jahaan aabaad kare

M: yeh raat bheegi bheegi yeh mast fizaayen
utha dheere dheere woh chaand pyaara pyaara
F: kyon aag si lagaake gum-sum hai chaandni
sone bhi nahin deta mausam ka yeh ishaara
Both: yeh raat bheegi bheegi yeh mast fizaayen
utha dheere dheere woh chaand pyaara pyaara

Do Ghadi Woh Jo Paas Aa Baithe

Been listening to songs with outstanding abhinay by the artists. This was among of my favorites for the lyrics and music along with the acting/abhinay of both of these actors. First time ever I actually liked Bharat Bhushan and Madhubala looks so innocent with such expressive eyes. Truly gorgeous! As usual, the music/tunes of this song remind me of some other song but I can't pinpoint to which one...

M:: do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe (2)
F:: hum zamaane se door ja baithe (2)
Both:: do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe

M:: (bhool ki un ka hum-naseen ho ke
royenge dil ko umra-bhar kho ke) (2)
haaye kya cheez thi loota baithe
Both:: do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe

F:: (dil ko ek din zaroor jaana tha
wahin pahooncha jahaan thikaana tha) (2)
dil wohi dil jo dil mein jaa baithe
Both:: do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe

M:: (ek dil hi tha gham-gusaar apnaa
meherbaan khaas raazdaar apnaa) (2)
gair ka kyon use banaa baithe
Both:: do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe

F:: (gair bhi to koyi haseen hogaa
dil yoon hi de diyaa nahin hogaa) (2)
dekh kar kuchh to chot khaa baithe

Both:: do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe
hum zamaane se door ja baithe
do ghadi woh jo paas aa baithe

Hum se aaya na gayaa...

This one is a favorite of Papu and I. We both adore this one as much as we love phir wohi shaam. I didn't know this one was a Madan Mohan creation until today...

Shubha Khote and Anoop Kumar look so cute together. Seems like the song is sung in a lighter mood than what the lyrics convey.

hum se aaya na gayaa tumse bhulaaya na gayaa (2)
faasla pyaar mein dono se mitaaya na gayaa
hum se aaya na gayaa tumse bhulaaya na gayaa
hum se aaya na gayaa

woh ghadi yaad hai jab tumse mulaaqaat hui (2)
ek ishaaraa huaa do haath badhe baat hui
dekhte dekhte din dhal gayaa aur raat hui
woh samaa aaj talak dil se bhulaaya na gayaa
hum se aaya na gayaa tumse bhulaaya na gayaa
hum se aaya na gayaa

kyaa khabar thi ki mile hai to bichhadne ke liye (2)
kismate apni banaayi hai bigadne ke liye (2)
pyaar ka baag lagaaya tha ujadane ke liye
is taraah ujadaa ke phir humse basaaya na gayaa
hum se aaya na gayaa tumse bhulaaya na gayaa
hum se aaya na gayaa

yaad reh jaati hai aur waqt guzar jaata hai (2)
phool khilta bhi hai aur khilke bikhar jaata hai
sab chale jaate hai tab dard-e-jigar reh jaata hai

Saiyaan Dil Mein Aana Re

The tunes of this song have been my favorite ringtone ever since I can remember... and I finally remembered to watch it. :) Wow! and what a beautiful voice of Shamshad Begum and Vyjayantimala looks so cute and adorable. Love her costumes and just about everything about her in this one. Catchy beat makes me love it even more and lyrics are playful too!

saiyaan dil mein aana re
aa ke phir na jaana re
oh aa ke phir na jaana re
chham chhamaa chham chham

raaja ban ke aana re
mohe le jaana re
ho mohe le ke jaana re
chham chhamaa chham chham

chaandani raat hogi taaron ki baraat hogi (2)
pehle pehle pyaar ki pehli pehli baat hogi (2)
khushi khushi gaayenge hum geet suhaana re
saiyaan dil mein aana re
aa ke phir na jaana re
ho aa ke phir na jaana re
chham chhamaa chham chham

thodi thodi sahel hogi thoda thoda pyaar hoga (2)
kabhi iqraar hoga kabhi inkaar hoga (2)
tera manaana mera rooth jaana re
saiyaan dil mein aana re
aa ke phir na jaana re
ho aa ke phir na jaana re
chham chhamaa chham chham

tum mere paas hoge gham badi door hoga (2)
kehta hai jiya mera hoga zuroor hoga (2)
laana re laana tashreef laana re
saiyaan dil mein aana re
aa ke phir na jaana re
o aa ke phir na jaana re
chham chhamaa chham chham

raaja ban ke aana re
mohe le jaana re
ho mohe le ke jaana re
chham chhamaa chham chham

Tum Mujhe Bhool Bhi Jaao....

Discovered this beauty while I was listening to some other song on youtube. Shubha Khote and Sunil Dutt make such a cute couple. Absolutely love the lyrics of the song along with fantastic music. Got to listen to Sudha Malhotra's work for the first time, I think. She's got quite a lovely voice. Will have to listen to more of her songs now.

F: tum mujhe bhool bhi jaao to yeh haq hai tum ko
meri baat aur hai maine to mohabbat kee hai
tum mujhe bhool bhi jaao to yeh haq hai tum ko

meri baat aur hai maine to mohabbat kee hai
tum mujhe bhool bhi jaao to yeh haq hai tum ko

M: zindagi sirf mohabbat nahin kuchh aur bhi hai
zulf rukhsaar ki jannat nahin kuchh aur bhi hai
bhookh aur pyaas ki maari hui is duniya mein
ishq hi ek haqeeqat nahin kuchh aur bhi hai
tum agar aankh churaao to yeh haq hai tum ko
main tum se hi nahin sab se mohabbat kee hai
tum agar aankh churaao to yeh haq hai tum ko

F: tum ko duniya ke gham-o-dard se fursat na sahi
sab se ulfat sahi mujhse hi mohabbat na sahi
main tumhaari hoon yehi mere liya kya kam hai
tum mere ho ke raho yeh meri kismat na sahi
aur bhi dil ko jalaao to yeh haq hai tum ko
meri baat aur hai maine to mohabbat kee hai
tum mujhe bhool bhi jaao to yeh haq hai tum ko

Aye gham-e-dil kya karoon...

Today, I got my hands on my old tapes sitting around in my room and so it was time to listen to my favorite ones. This comes from the tapes I got as a gift from K-mami. God bless her! She chose such a quality gift to give me/us. These tapes have got fantastic collection of Talat Mahmood songs.

I adore this one for it's music. It's so upbeat and fantastic for a sad song. I wish I get to see the video of this song some day. Shammi Kapoor looks so young and handsome in the photo.

And while I was searching for who was the lyricist of this song, I found this awesome piece of info on this film, apparently one of Shammi Kapoor's first films and the lyricist Majaz.

Source: By swarapriya on hamaraforums

"Thokar" is the movie in which Shammi Kapoor made his debut. He was only 22 then. He did have acting experience touring with Prithvi Theatre Company (his father's) playing bit roles in various plays. By this time, both his father, Prithviraj Kapoor, and his older brother, Raj Kapoor, have firmly established themselves in the movie industry as formidable forces to reckon with. So when he decided to make a plunge into acting in movies, not just one, but five producers signed him.

Unfortunately for Shammi, eventhough he was in the hands of reputable directors, and was a leading man opposite several established actresses (like Madhubala, Nutan, and Suraiya) it wasn't an auspicious start for him. None of these movies were commercial successes.

One great feature about "Thokar" is its music composed by Sardar Malik. The songs "Aye Gham-E-Dil Kya Karoon" are outstanding. These were written by the famous poet Majaz (his picture is given below). In real life Majazji was Asraar Ul Haq. He was uncle of the great lyricist of today, Javed Akhtar. Javed Akhtar's father, himself another great lyricist, Jan Nisar Akhtar, was married to Majajz's sister.

Majazji was considered to be a romantic poet. He was regarded by many as Keats of India. Among others he was a contemporary of Sahir Ludhianvi. Eventhough Sahir initially didn't have good opinion of Majazji as a person (Majaz was an alocoholic), his poems won over him and they became very good friends until Majaz's death in 1955 at the young age of 44. For several years preceding his death, Majazji who depeneded on heavy drinking suffered several nervous breakdowns and also was institutionalized for some time. Inspite of all kinds of hardships, the genius in Majaz was still alive and stayed sober enough to write. His works were published in several books. One of his famous books is "Awaara". The song "Aye Gham-E-Dil" is one of the songs from that book.

Government of India honored Majaz's meomory by issuing a commemorative stamp recently in March 2008.

shaher ki raat aur main naashaad-o-naakaara phiroon
jag-magaati jaagati sadkon pe aawaara phiroon
(aye gham-e-dil kyaa karoon
aye vehshat-e-dil kyaa karoon
kyaa karoon, kyaa karoon) (2)
aye gham-e-dil kyaa karoon

yeh roopehli chhaanv yeh aakaash par taaron ka jaal (2)
jaise soofi ka tasavvur jaise aashiq ka khayaal
aah lekin kaun samajhe kaun jaane jee ka haal
aye gham-e-dil kyaa karoon
aye vehshat-e-dil kyaa karoon
kyaa karoon, kyaa karoon
aye gham-e-dil kyaa karoon

raaste mein ruk ke dam loon yeh meri aadat nahin (2)
laut kar vaapas chala jaaun meri fitarat nahin
aur koi hamanava mil jaaye yeh qismat nahin
aye gham-e-dil kyaa karoon
aye vehshat-e-dil kyaa karoon
kya karoon, kyaa karoon
aye gham-e-dil kyaa karoon

Chali chali re patang meri chali re...

Today, while listening to Morning Masti, I got to listen to this song for the first time! And it truly made my day... such an upbeat song and the voices of two of my favorite singers. Then after I watched the video in the evening, I fell in love with it. It has Jagdeep and Nanda. Jagdeep looks so handsome and Nanda like a doll. Loved her hair-do with ribbons. Reminded me of my school days when we had to make our hair like that.

Fantastic music by Chitragupt and Rajinder Krishan's lyrics make it what it is, a hit song!

Happy Kiteflying Day!

M: chali chali re patang meri chali re (2)
chali baadalon ke paar ho ke dor pe sawaar
saari duniya yeh dekh dekh jali re
chali chali re patang meri chali re

M: yoon mast hawa mein lehraaye
jaise udan khatola uda jaaye
F: ho yoon mast hawa mein lehraaye
jaise udan khatola uda jaaye
le ke man mein umang jaise koyi dulhan
chali jaaye re sanwariya ki gali re

chali chali re patang meri chali re (2)
Both: chali baadalon ke paar ho ke dor pe sawaar
saari duniya ye dekh dekh jali re
chali chali re patang meri chali re

F: aa aa aa.. (4)
M: oh ho ho (2)

F: rang meri patang ka dhaani
hai yeh neele gagan ki raani
M :ho ho rang meri patang ka dhaani
hai yeh neel gagan ki raani
baanki baanki hai uthaan hai umar bhi jawaan
laage patli kamar badi bhali re

chali chali re patang meri chali re (2)
Both: chali baadalon ke paar ho ke dor pe sawaar
saari duniya ye dekh dekh jali re
chali chali re patang meri chali re

M: aa..aa..ha ha (4)
F: oh ho..ho..(2)

chhoona mat dekh akeli hai saath mein dor saheli (2)
M: hai ye bijli ki taar badi tez hai kataar
degi kaat ke rakh dil-jali re

Both: chali chali re patang meri chali re (2)
chali baadalon ke paar ho ke dor pe sawaar
saari duniya ye dekh dekh jali re
chali chali re patang meri chali re

Jaane Woh Kaise Log The...

The first time I had heard this song was when I was a kid. Mom used to hum these classics so often then that I just thought that these were actually songs of hers and not movie songs. Later on when I learnt what movies were, I realized these were actually immortal songs made by some crazily creative folks. Reading about it and listening to it on Anaamica's blog made me realize once again what a beautiful song it actually is. I just had to post it. Mindblowing lyrics!

jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi to gham ki gard mili (2)
chaahat ke naghame chaahe to aanhen sard mili
dil ke bojh ko dhundhalaa kar gayaa jo ghamkhaar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

bichhad gayaa (2)
bichhad gayaa har saathi de kar pal do pal kaa saath
kis ko fursat hai jo thaame deewaanon kaa haath
hum ko apnaa saayaa tak aksar bezaar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

isko hi jeenaa kehte hai to yoon hi jee lenge (2)
uff na karenge lab see lenge aansoo pee lenge
gham se ab ghabaraanaa kaisaa gham sau baar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

Aaja Sanam Madhur Chaandni Mein Hum

Evergreen! That's the category of this one. The song still sounds brand new after more than half a century and people can still relate to it.

Again, one of those first few songs I listened to as kid and have ever lasting memories attached with it - the old cassette player with loose plug that needed extra support to stay in the plug socket and the tape lid that needed something heavy to be placed on top so the two little groovy holes on tape actually fit into the two revolving screw-like knobs in the player. It was an old family tape player that just sat around and I got to play it around as no one used it. All I had back then was a couple of dusty audio tapes with scratched labels and no clue what was in them. I was just fascinated with the whole mechanism of switches and tape and the music that came out of it... it is only now that I actually realize that it was because of Lataji's and Mannada's lovely voices and SJ's music that did the trick. I had no clue about what the lyrics meant... I still remember thinking that lyricist Shailendra was talking about the garment "lungi" when he wrote "dam bhar jo udhar mooh phere..." :P How silly I was! This one took me back to those childhood days.

I can't stand Raj Kapoor and totally adore Nargis, but still think they made a great pair on silver screen. Hasrat Jaipuri's lyrics just get better and better as I discover/realize how good his work has been.

F: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

M: bheegi bheegi raat mein dil ka daaman thaam le
khoyi khoyi zindagi har dum tera naam le

F: (chaand ki behki nazar keh rahi hai pyaar kar
zindagi hai ek safar kaun jaane kal kidhar) (2)

M: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

F: kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

M: dil yeh chaahe aaj to baadal ban ud jaau main
dulhan jaisa aasmaan dharti par le aau main

F: (chaand ka dola saje dhoom taaron mein mache
jhoom ke duniya kahe pyaar mein do dil mile) (2)

Both: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

F: kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

Dil Ki Nazar Se...

I felt like listening to this one all over again. It is one of those that I listened to as a kid for the very first time and never cared about it.

Now it has become one of my favorite Mukesh-Lata duets. When Lata ji sings "aakaash mein..." you actually feel like there are those gestures created in the skies and when Mukesh sings "madbhari yeh tumhaari nazar kaa asar hai" one literally feels the mad/intoxication of Nutan's eyes. Shankar Jaikishan know how to create immortal music.

M: dil ki nazar se nazaron ki dil se
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de

F: seene se uth kar hothon pe aayaa
yeh geet kaisaa yeh raag kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de

M: dil ki nazar se nazaron ki dil se
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

F: (kyon bekhabar yoon khinchi si chali jaa rahi main
yeh kaun se bandhanon mein bandhi jaa rahi main) (2)
kuchh kho rahaa hai kuchh mil rahaa hai
yeh baat kya hai yeh raaz kya hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

M: (hum kho chale chaand hai ya koi jaadugar hai
yaa madbhari yeh tumhaari nazar kaa asar hai) (2)
sab kuchh humaaraa ab hai tumhaaraa
yeh baat kya hai yeh raaz kya hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

F: (aakaash mein ho rahe hai yeh kaise ishaare
M: kyaa dekhkar aaj hai itne khush chaand-taare) (2)
kyon tum paraaye dil mein samaaye
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de

Both: dil ki nazar se nazaron ki dil se
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

Mohabbat Aisi Dhadkan Hai

Does it happen with you that you hear a song somewhere that you've never listened to before and then it just stays in your memory until you actually make an attempt to listen to it? This is one of those songs. I have no idea where I heard it first but it just got imprinted in memory... until today. One of the oldies by Lata ji where she sounds so different than her usual self. I guess this was the time when singers like Shamshad Begum ruled the HFM and everyone tried to be like that. I do like her as well but just something I noticed that how Lata ji changed her style of singing with time and I am glad she did.

Yet again I become a fan of Hasrat ji's lyrics, they're so beautiful and same with C. Ramchandra's music. Lovely song that is created by the hard work of all of these artists and many more behind the screen.

is intazaar-e-shauq ko jalvo ki aas hai
ek shamma jal rahi hai so aisi udaas hai

mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samjhaayi nahin jaati (2)
zubaan par dil ki bechaini
kabhi laayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

chale aao chale aao taqaaza hai nigaahon ka (2)
taqaaza hai nigaahon ka
kisi ki aarzoo aise
to thukaraayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samajhaai nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

mere dil ne bichhaaye hai sajde aaj raahon mein (2)
sajde aaj raahon mein
jo haalat aashiqi ki hai
woh batlaayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samjhaayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

Mujhe tum se kuch bhi na chaahiye

My parents grew up listening to this one so the first time I had heard this one was from them when we played antakshari. I really like the song a lot for the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. Watched it for the first time today and now it's making me want to watch the movie too...

Every once in a while I get stumped to read such lyrics and wonder how and when the lyricist wrote them. It'd be nice to know more about that.

The voice of Mukesh was created for Raj Kapoor songs, I think. Well, no I take that back, it was actually created for the Ramayan he sang (which is my most favorite singing of Mukesh), but this one is quite wonderful to listen to as well. :)

mujhe tum se kuchh bhi naa chaahiye
mujhe mere haal pe chhod do (2)
meraa dil agar koyi dil nahin
use mere saamane tod do (2)
mujhe tum se kuchh bhi naa chaahiye

(main yeh bhool jaaungaa zindagi
kabhi muskuraayi thi pyaar mein) (2)
main yeh bhool jaaoongaa meraa dil
kabhi khil uthaa thaa bahaar mein
jinhe is jahaan ne bhula diya
mera naam unn mein hi jod do (2)
mujhe tum se kuchh bhi naa chaahiye
mujhe mere haal pe chhod do (2)
mujhe tum se kuchh bhi naa chaahiye

(tumhe apnaa kehne ki chaah mein
kabhi ho sake naa kisi ke hum) (2)
yehi dard mere jigar mein hai
mujhe maar daalegaa bas yeh gham
main woh gul hoon jo na khila kabhi
mujhe kyon na shaak se tod do (2)
mujhe tum se kuchh bhi naa chaahiye
mujhe mere haal pe chhod do (2)
mujhe tum se kuchh bhi naa chaahiye

Mehfil Mein Jal Uthi Shamaa

One of my favorite songs of Chitalkar & Lataji. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see it's actually picturized on Madhubala. :)

mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa
(mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa parvaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniya mein mar jaane ke liye) (2)

chaaron taraf lagaaye phere phir bhi har dum door rahe
ulfat dekho aag bani hai milne se majhboor rahe
yehi sazaa hai duniya mein
yehi sazaa hai duniya mein deewaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniya mein mar jaane ke liye
mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa parvaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniya mein mar jaane ke liye

marne ka hai naam mohabbat jalne ka hai naam jawaani
patthar dil hai sun ne waale kehne waala aankh ka paani
aansoo aaye aankhon mein
aansoo aaye aankhon mein gir jaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniya mein mar jaane ke liye
mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa parvaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniya mein mar jaane ke liye

De Di Hume Aazaadi... Saabarmati Ke Sant

Every time I listen to this song, I feel choked with emotions and tears dwell around my eyelashes.

For today, for Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2008. Happy birthday to the Father of our Nation - Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Long live Bapu's theories and may God bless me with strength to follow his princlples of satya and ahimsa.

F: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
Ch: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal

F: aandhi mein bhi jalti rahi gandhi teri mashaal
Ch: saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal

F: dharti pe ladi toone ajab dhab ki ladaai
daagi na kahin topp na bandook chalai
dushman ke kile par bhi na ki toone chadaai
wah re fakir khoob karaamaat dikhaayi
chutki main dushmano ko diya desh se nikaal
Ch: saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
F: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
Ch: raghupati raaghav raaja raam

F: shatranj bicha kar yahan baitha tha zamaana
lagta tha ke muskil hai firangi ko harana
takkar thi bade zor ki dushman bhi tha taana
par tu bhi tha bapu badaa ustaad purana
maara woh kas ke daav ke ulti sabhi ki chaal
Ch: saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
F: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
Ch: raghupati raaghav raaja raam

F: jab jab tera bigul bajaa jawaan chal pade
majdoor chal pade the aur kisaan chal pade
hindu woh musalmaan sikh pathaan chal pade
kadamon pe teri koti koti praan chal pade
phoolon ki sej chhod ke daude jawaaharlaal
Ch: saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
F: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
Ch: raghupati raaghav raaja raam

F: mann mein thi ahimsa ki lagan tan pe langoti
laakhon mein ghoomta tha liye satya ki soti
waise to dekhne mein thi hasti teri chhoti
lekin tujhe jhukti thi himaalay ki bhi choti
duniya mein tu bejod tha insaan bemisaal
Ch: saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
F: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
Ch: raghupati raaghav raaja raam

F: jag mein koyi jiya hai to bapu tu hi jiya
toone watan ki raah pe sab kuch loota diya
manga na koi takht na koi taaj hi liya
amrut diya to theek magar khud zaher piya
jis din teri chita jali roya tha mahaakaal
Ch: saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
F: de di hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhaal
saabarmati ke sant toone kar diya kamaal
Ch: raghupati raaghav raaja raam (3)

Nain So Nain Naahi Milaao

One of the songs I hum the most absentmindedly, without realizing I'm humming it. Don't know why!

It was wonderful to see Gopi Krishna on film first time as I'd only seen him in family photos. One of mom's uncles was his close friends so I had never got to see Gopi Krishna dancing until I watched this song a little while back. Beautiful dance by both the dancers.

The voices of Lata ji and Hemant da so romantic... awesome song!

M: saavdhaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao (2)
dekhat soorat aavat laaj saiyaan
M: pyaar se pyaar aa ke sajaao (2)
madhur milan gaavat aaj guiyaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao
nain so nain

aa aa aa aa aa aa

(chorus)

aa aa aa aa aa aa

F: khincho kamaan maaro ji baan (2)
rut hai jawaan o more praan
ruk kyon gaye?
M: tum ne chori kar li kamaan
kaise maarun preet kaa baan guiyaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao
nain so nain

aa aa aa aa aa aa

(chorus)

aa aa aa aa aa aa

aa aa aa... aa aa aa aa... aa aa aa

F: rim jhim jhim gaaye jharanon ki dhaar
dil ko lubhaaye koyal pukaar
M: nahin...
F: to phir?
M: jharanon ki dhaaron mein teraa sangeet

F: nain so nain naahi milaao

Bechain Dil Khoyi Si Nazar

When I had watched this movie a few years back, this was the one song that I loved the most. Of course, this wasn't picturized on the lead actor like "meri jaan meri jaan" was, but still there was something about this one that made me go gaga over it! The dance is very beautiful - Helen looks like a doll and Cuckoo is also a great dancer and to listen to the number is so much fun.

I still can't differentiate between the two voices of the singers so I've left out that detail.

bechain dil khoyi si nazar
tanhaaiyon mein shaam saher
tum yaad aate ho
ho ho

bechain dil khoyi si nazar
tanhaaiyon mein shaam saher
tum yaad aate ho

dil nahin pehloo mein reh gayi do aankhen (2)
ho jaane kya kya hum se keh gayi to aankhen (3)
sunsaan raaton mein aksar
jab chaand pe jaati hai nazar
tum yaad aate ho
ho ho
bechain dil khoyi si nazar
tanhaaiyon mein shaam saher
tum yaad aate ho

dil to deewana tha hum bhi kya kar baithe (2)
ho marz jaane kya tha kya dawa kar baithe (3)
ek aah thandi si bhar kar
un se koi keh de jaa kar
tum yaad aate ho
ho ho
bechain dil khoyi si nazar
tanhaaiyon mein shaam saher
tum yaad aate ho

hum to yeh samjhe the khatm hai afsana (2)
ho uth chuki hai mehfil reh gaya veerana (3)
hum ko na thi lekin yeh khabar
hum to kahenge reh reh kar
tum yaad aate ho
ho ho
bechain dil khoyi si nazar
tanhaaiyon mein shaam saher
tum yaad aate ho

Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai

After listening to this song again today, I feel these people must come from some other divine world.

I don’t have words to describe this song - the voice, the music, the emotions, the instruments playing, the words.

It is when I listen to songs like this I want to thank God for this life, for giving me an ability to understand the emotions conveyed by these songs, and for making me exist on this earth in the times when these people exist. I feel so blessed.

aa aa aa aa

(yeh zindagi usi ki hai jo kisi kaa ho gayaa
pyaar hi mein kho gayaa) (2)
yeh zindagi usi ki hai

(yeh bahaar yeh samaa keh rahaa hai pyaar kar
kisi ki aarzoo mein apne dil ko bekraar kar) (2)
zindagi hai bewafaa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
zindagi hai bewafaa loot pyaar kaa mazaa
yeh zindagi usi ki hai jo kisi kaa ho gayaa
pyaar hi mein kho gayaa
yeh zindagi usi ki hai

dhadak rahaa hai dil to kyaa dil ki dhadakane naa gin (2)
phir kahaa yeh fursate phir kahaan yeh raat din
aa rahi hai yeh sadaa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
aa rahi hai yeh sadaa mastiyon mein doob jaa
yeh zindagi usi ki hai jo kisi kaa ho gayaa
pyaar hi mein kho gayaa
yeh zindagi usi ki hai

Tum Kya Jaano... Hum Kitna Roye

Been listening to C. Ramchandra songs today and loved this one a lot. It's sung with very less music and is quite a slow song. Lataji's voice is so pure and the music very melodious. Lyrics too are very beautiful.

For some reasons, this song reminds me of "tu mera chand main teri chandni" of Geeta Dutt.

tum kya jaano (2) tumhaari yaad mein
hum kitna roye (2)
rain guzaari taare gin gin (2)
chain se jab tum soye
hum kitna roye

kitni kaliyaan khili chaman mein
khilke phir murja gayi
birhan ke is bhole man ko
baar baar samjha gayi
ro ke jawaani kaati jis ne (2)
preet ke beeje boye
hum kitna roye
tum kya jaano tumhaari yaad mein
hum kitna roye (2)

kitne baadal ghire gagan mein
ghir ke phir na barse
pyaas dabaa kar dil ki dil mein
kitna tadpe tarse
dard hamara dil jaane ya (2)
naina khoye khoye
hum kitna roye
tum kya jaano tumhaari yaad mein
hum kitna roye (2)
