Milti hai zindagi mein...

There are some songs that never get old. Like this one. No matter how many times I listen to it, it just sounds so fresh thanks to all the artsy people who've created it. Lata ji sounds so upbeat and the music so live yet the lyrics are so deep and completely opposite to the mood the sound and music generate.

milti hai zindagi mein mohabbat kabhi kabhi (3)
hoti hai dilbaron ki inaayat kabhi kabhi (2)

sharmaa ke mooh na pher nazar ke sawaal par (2)
laati hai aise mod pe kismat kabhi kabhi (2)
milti hai zindagi mein mohabbat kabhi kabhi

tanhaa na kat sakenge jawaani ke raaste (2)
pesh aayegi kisi ki zuroorat kabhi kabhi (2)
milti hai zindagi mein mohabbat kabhi kabhi

milti hai zindagi mein mohabbat kabhi kabhi (2)

Hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo...

Some songs never need praising... this one falls under that category. One of my favorite haunting melodies.

This set of artists have always given a hit melodies, in fact just evergreen songs...

I love how little the camera moves and how it captures the scenes.

hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo
woh jafaa kare main wafaa karoon
jo wafaa bhi kaam na aa sake
to wohi kahe ke main kya karoon
hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo

(mujhe gham bhi unka azeez hai
ke unhi ki di hui cheez hai) (2)
ke unhi ki di hui cheez hai
yehi gham hai ab meri zindagi
ise kaise dil se judaa karoon
hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo

(jo na ban sake main woh baat hoon
jo na khatm ho main woh raat hoon) (2)
jo na khatm ho main woh raat hoon
yeh likhaa hai mere naseeb mein
yoon hi shammaa ban ke jalaa karoon
hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo

(na kisi ke dil ki hoon aarzoo
na kisi nazar ki hoon justajoo) (2)
na kisi nazar ki hoon justajoo
main woh phool hoon jo udaas hoon
na bahaar aaye to kyaa karoon

hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo
woh jafaa kare main wafaa karoon
jo wafaa bhi kaam na aa sake
to wohi kahe ke main kya karoon
hai isi mein pyaar ki aabroo

Dil mein kisi ke pyaar ka...

The goodness of 70s is going to prevail around here for a while. We've got the 70s week coming up!

I had only overheard this song until today... and when I listened to it, I realized what a wonderful song it was. Too bad they only have single stanza for Kishore Kumar's version, but it's delicious nevertheless! Both songs are beautiful... but one gives a philosophical romantic mood while the other playful romantic.

Leena C. looks gorgeous in a white maxi dress (how did they go out of style again?) in the female version of the song and Sharmila sensual in the male version of this rainy song. I wonder which one comes first in the story. In the male version, we also get a glimpse of a very handsome Ashok Kumar. It must feel so different to have close family members work with you... I was thinking that about Kishore Kumar singing, Leena Chandavarkar acting in the film along with Ashok Kumar...

Thanks to such marvelous singers, lovely work of music director and God knows how many more musicians along with the lyricist we get to enjoy double the goodness of this creation!

(dil mein kisi ke pyaar kaa jaltaa hua diyaa

seene mein dil ke saath dhadakta rahegaa yeh
dhadakta rahegaa yeh
woh naqsh kyaa huaa jo mitaaye se mit gayaa
woh dard kyaa huaa jo dabaaye se dab gayaa
dil mein kisi ke pyaar kaa jaltaa hua diyaa

ab woh karam kare ke sitam unkaa faislaa
hum ne to dil mein pyaar kaa sholaa jalaa liyaa
dil mein kisi ke pyaar kaa jaltaa hua diyaa

Tere Paas Aa Ke Mera Waqt Guzar Jaata Hai

Mala Sinha, the gorgeous damsel and the He-man of Hindi cinema come together once again for this one. This film had some of the most beautiful songs and you can see why. My favorite ones are "aap ko pyaar chhupaane ki buri aadat hai" and this one.

And I just realized we are one week away from Rafi sahab's 85th birthday... May God bless him wherever he is with peace and bliss.

Enjoy this beautiful melody by the most hit pair of singers in HFM.

M: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai (2)
do ghadi ke liye ghum jaane kidhar jaata hai

F: jab kabhi door se tu mujhko nazar aata hai
pyaar hans kar meri aankhon me sanwar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

F: tu wohi hai jisse is dil ne sadaayen dee hai (2)
tu wohi hai jise nazron ne duaayein dee hai
tu wohi hai ke jo dil le ke mukar jaata hai

F: do ghadi ke liye ghum jaane kidhar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

M: jaam itne teri masti bhari aankhon se piye... haan
jaam itne teri masti bhari aankhon se piye
bekhudi mein tujhe sajde meri nazron ne kiye
tere jalwon mein khuda mujhko nazar aata hai

F: pyaar hans ke meri aankhon me sanwar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

F: teri yaad aate hi ghabra ke chali aati hoon (2)
main har ek qaid ko thukra ke chali aati hoon
main nahin aati mujhe pyaar idhar laata hai
pyaar hans kar meri aankhon me sanwar jaata hai

M: do ghadi ke liye ghum jaane kidhar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

Ek Haseen Shaam Ko

Discovered this number a couple of years back when I was browsing around on mohdrafi.com. What a fantastic song! Simply adore the lyrics and the tunes of the song along with my favorite singer, of course. Dharampaaji and Nutan make a fabulous on-screen pair!

ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa
pehle apna hua karta tha ab kisi ka ho gayaa

muddaton se aarzoo thi zindagi mein koyi aaye
sooni sooni zindagi mein koyi shamma jhilmilaaye
woh jo aaye to roshan zamaana ho gayaa
ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa
pehle apna hua karta tha ab kisi ka ho gayaa

mere dil ke caaravaan ko le chalaa hai aaj koyi
shabnami si jiski aankhen thodi jaagi thodi soyi
unko dekhaa to mausam suhaanaa ho gayaa
ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa
pehle apna hua karta tha ab kisi ka ho gayaa

Tum Pukaar Lo Tumhaara Intezaar Hai

One of my favorite haunting melodies of Hemant Kumar. What awesome lyrics and the depth the music and his voice give to song are out of this world! I'm not a huge fan of Hemantda but if I have to pick and choose favorites, this would surely be one of them.

hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm

tum pukaar lo
tumhaara intezaar hai tum pukaar lo
khwaab chun rahi hai raat beqaraar hai
tumhaara intezaar hai tum pukaar lo

(honth pe liye hue dil ki baat hum
jaagte rahenge aur kitni raat hum) (2)

(dil bahel to jaayega is khayaal se
haal mil gaya tumhaara apne haal se) (2)
raat yeh qaraar ki beqaraar hai
tumhaara intezaar hai

Yehi Hai Tamanna

When it comes to funny Hindi songs, one just can't forget this one. Rafisahab completely rocks in this one.. and Dharmendra's dance can't get any more ridiculous or funnier. :D

I know this isn't the best song of the film, but I have too much fun watching it for the dance and Dharmpaaji's acting in it.

(yehi hai tamanna tere dar ke saamne meri jaan jaaye
meri jaan jaaye haaye) (2)

tere dar pe aaya to bas aa gaya main
na peechhe hatoonga zamane ke dar se
abhi aa raha hoon abhi kaise jaau
zara dekh loon main yeh rukh ki bahaare
yeh kad pyaara pyaara yeh zulfon ke saaye haaye
yehi hai tamanna tere dar ke saamne meri jaan jaaye
meri jaan jaaye haaye

gila hai yehi mujhko tere khuda se
haseen jis ne itna banaya hai tujhko
na aata kabhi teri galiyon mein zaalim
tere husn ne khud bulaya hai mujhko
jalaa kar koyi shamma kaise kahega
ke dekho yahaan par na parwana aaye haaye
yehi hai tamanna tere dar ke saamne meri jaan jaaye
meri jaan jaaye haaye

mohabbat mein teri agar maut aaye
to woh maut kitni haseen maut hogi
kisi roz main tera daaman pakad kar
jo mar jaau kya dil naseen maut hogi
agar koyi aisi ghadi aa rahi hai
to meri dua hai woh jaldi se aaye haaye
yehi hai tamanna tere dar ke saamne meri jaan jaaye
meri jaan jaaye haaye

Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe

Two words that come to mind when I listen to this song - intoxicating and romantic! Again, this one too falls under the "taareef karofy" category. The song has that laid back feeling to it, you get to listen to music and the singer's voice and enjoy and appreciate each and every note of the music and word of lyrics. It's too bad they don't make slow songs like this one these days. Wonderful to hear such slow song in our fast paced life where we are just running to God knows where...

Main Nigaahen Tere Chehre Se

I've been trying to listen to some of the old "taareef karofy" songs these days। There are so many of them but this one came to mind first. The song itself is as intoxicating as the lyrics and so is the music along with Rafisahab's voice. Too bad I can't say the same thing about the actress. I wish it was Mala Sinha instead of Supriya Choudhury. But in any case, the song is evergreen and Dharampaaji looks like a million bucks! Seems like the "teri aankhon mein..." stanza is not very commonly heard. Here are all three stanzas of the song. Madan Mohan music is mesmerizing!

main nigaahen tere chehre se hataau kaise (2)
loot gaye hosh to phir hosh mein aau kaise
main nigaahen tere chehre se hataau kaise
main nigaahen

chhaa rahi thi teri mehki hui zulfon ki ghataa
teri aankhon ne
teri aankhon ne pilaadi to main pitaa hi gayaa
taubaa taubaa... taubaa taubaa...
taubaa taubaa woh nashaa hai ke bataau kaise
main nigaahen

meri aankhon mein gile shikave hai aur pyaar bhi hai
aarzooye...
aarzooye bhi hai aur hasrat-e-didaar bhi hai
itne toofaan... toofaan...
itne toofaan main aankhon main chhupaau kaise
main nigaahen

shokh nazaare yeh sharaarat se naa baaz aayegi
kabhi roothegi
kabhi roothegi kabhi milke palat jaayegi
tujh se nibh jaayegi... nibh jaayegi...
tujh se nibh jaayegi main inse nibhaau kaise
main nigaahen tere chehre se hataau kaise

loot gaye hosh to phir hosh main aau kaise
main nigaahen tere chehre se hataau kaise
main nigaahen

Aap Ki Nazaron Ne Samjha

One word: divine! is all I can think of when I listen to this song. Lata Mangeshkar's voice is out of this world. She must have donated a lot of pearls in her previous birth or may be she was a Goddess!

The songs from this era are so much fun to even watch. Camera stayed at one angle for more than 10 seconds. Romance was shown so respectfully, no vulgarity, and you actually feel the emotion the song tries to convey and may be more... the connection between the video/audio and audience is tremendous! And to top it you have such beautiful voice doing justice to classical song and the controlled and just perfect acting by the actors and music just takes you into another dimension. Your heart feels it and there are no words to describe the feeling. There you have it in this song of Anpadh, portrayed in utmost classy way, the idea of surrendering to your loved one.

jee hume manzoor hai aap ka yeh faisalaa (2)
keh rahi hai har nazar bandaa parvar shukriya
hans ke apni zindagi mein kar liya shaamil mujhe

Kayi Din Se Jee Hai Bekal

This is a cute number from film Dulhan Ek Raat Ki. Sounds very pleasant to ears and reminds me of some other song but I can't remember which one. It's probably based on some raaga that's why it sounds familiar. Madan Mohan's music and Lata sings, what can I say! magical combo it is.

(kayi din se jee hai bekal
aye dil ki lagan ab le chal
mujhe bhi wahaan
mere piyaa hai jahaan (2)) (2)

bichhadi nazar nazar se to bechain ho gayi (2)
aise lagaa ke jaise koyi cheez kho gayi
ab unnke binaa hoon aaise
jaise nainaa bin kaajal
kayi din se jee hai bekal
aye dil ki lagan ab le chal
mujhe bhi wahaan
mere piyaa hai jahaan (2)

aayi jo unn ki yaad to saansen mehak gayi (2)
aankhon mein bijaliyaan si hazaaron chamak gayi
jiss aor uthi ye nazaren
laharaaye pyaar ke baadal
kayi din se jee hai bekal
aye dil ki lagan ab le chal
mujhe bhi wahaan
mere piyaa hai jahaan (2)

aati hain unn ke pyaar ki maujen machal machal (2)
jaa des piyaa ke udd jaa aye mann ke panchhi ghaayal
kayi din se jee hai bekal
aye dil ki lagan ab le chal
mujhe bhi wahaan
mere piyaa hai jahaan (2)

kayi din se jee hai bekal
aye dil ki lagan ab le chal
mujhe bhi wahaan
mere piyaa hai jahaan (2)

Tum Ko Hamaari Umar Lag Jaaye

(tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)) (2)

muraade ho puri sajhe har tamannaa
mohabbat ki duniyaa ke tum chaand ban naa
bahaaron ki manzil se hansnaa hasaanaa
khushi mein hamaari bhi aawaaz sun naa
kabhi zindagi mein koi gham naa aaye
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

mujhe to khushi hai tumhe kyaa bataau
bhalaa dil ki dhadkan ko kaise chhipaau
kahin ho naa jaau khushi se main paagal
tumhe dekh kar aur bhi muskuraau
khudaa dil-jalo ki nazar se bachaaye
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

sitaaron se uncha ho rusva tumhara
bano tum har ek zindagi ka sahara
tumhe jis se ulfat ho mil jaaye tum ko
samajh lo hamari dua ka ishaara
muqaddar tumhara sadaa jagmagaaye
tum ko hamari umar lag jaaye (2)

Doori Na Rahe Koi

Quite a few Hindi songs that have at least one stanza, usually the last one, that has different tune than the rest of the song. I seem to adore such songs, specially when the lyrics are so meaningful and the music touches your heart. Here the lyricist has put the feelings in words that can't be
described in any other way. Lataji's magical voice is so divine! Listening to this song renders me speechless.

(music)

(upbeat music)

This is so fantastic! takes you out of this world. *goosebumps*

Notice how this next stanza begins with totally different tune than "saanson
ki haraarat..." stanza.

Aayi Milan Ki Bela

So I just watched 'Aayi Milan Ki Bela' last night after having wanted to watch the movie for more than 8 years. The nearby Indian movie rental places didn't carry it so I had to have Nipun send it to me with mom during her trip to India last August. For one year, I didn't get a chance to watch the movie, so finally last night I decided to watch it.

Aayi Milan Ki Bela is one of those romantic triangles story of Indian cinema where romance, social life and a whole bunch of lovely songs come together. Movie is worth watching once definitely, if not for the oh-so-charming Rajendra Kumar, or gorgeous Saira Banu, at least for the wonderful romantic songs that it has - Shankar-Jaikishan's music and lyrics of Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri make you want to keep humming these songs. All of them are worth watching, and listening... Papu says that back in 1964, when the movie came out, when Saira Banu was singing "tum ko hamari umar lag jaaye" on screen, audience used to throw money at the screen. And indeed, Lata has sung the song so beautifully, and Saira Banu looks like a million-dollar lady in that song. I never thought a white saari can look such beautiful until I saw her in that song. Simply fabulous! Not to mention Rajendra Kumar looks sooooooooooo handsome!! Dharmendra plays a wee-bit negative role of an angry young man.

Other songs of the movie:

- Ayee Milan Ki Bela (Asha Bhosle, Mohd Rafi)
- Bura Maan Gaye (Mohd Rafi)
- Main Kamsin Hoon (Lata Mangeshkar)
- Main Pyar Ka Deewana (Mohd Rafi)
- O Sanam Tere Ho Gaye Hum (Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi)
- Tum Kamsin Ho (Mohd Rafi)
