Tumhi Dekho Na...

A beautiful song with lovely lyrics and tunes. Yet another Sonu-Alka duet but they truly make it unique and it makes me want to listen to it again and again. Rani looks really pretty in saaris. :)

M: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri
F: main hairaan hoon tumhe kya kahoon
ke din mein hui kaisi chaandni
M: jaagi jaagi si hai
phir bhi khwaabon mein hai
khoyi khoyi zindagi
F: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
M: tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri

M: behke behke se mann mehke mehke se tan
ujhali ujhali fizaaon mein hai

F: aaj hum hai jahaan kitni rangeeniyan
chhalki chhalki nigaahon mein hai

M: neeli neeli ghataaon se hai chal rahi
halki halki roshani

F: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
M: tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri
F: main hairaan hoon tumhe kya kahoon
ke din mein hui kaisi chaandni

F: main to anjaan thi yoon bhi hoga kabhi
pyaar barsega yoon toot ke

M: ho sach yeh iqraar hai
F: aa
M: sach yehi pyaar hai
baaki bandhan hai sab jhooth ke
F: aa... aa... aa...
meri saanson mein hai ghul rahi pyaar ki
dheemi dheemi raagini

M: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri
F: main hairaan hoon tumhe kya kahoon
ke din mein hui kaisi chaandni
M: jaagi jaagi si hai
phir bhi khwaabon mein hai
khoyi khoyi zindagi

Jai Gauri Maa

This was probably one song of Vivah that I didn't remember while watching the movie because it played in background and I was too busy watching the actors than paying attention to songs. Later on, when I was listening to the audio of Vivah, I realized how beautiful this song was. And why won't it be? It's devotional and reminds you of none other bhajan than "Raam Siya Raam Siya Raam Jai Jai Raam" aka Ramayan Chaupayan for both of then are based on same raaga. Both total goose-bumpy songs! This just tells us Ravindra Jain is a true Ram bhakt. :)

While searching for this song's video online, I couldn't find the video, but I did find something else that was really interesing. Believe it or not, there's another song with exact same words from film Diwani (not sure of the year of release), music directed by H. C. Bali and lyrics are of Dina Nath Madhok. I wonder whether it would sound the same as this one. Hmm... why didn't Ravindra Jain give credit to the original lyricist then? I also wondered whether Pamela Jain was any way related to Ravindra Jain. Lots of questions in my mind.

The song is very beautiful and one can never get tired of listening to this devotional number praising Goddess Parvati.

Pamela: ho jai jai jai giriraaj kishori
jai maheshmukh chandra-chakori

Chorus: jai gauri maa teri jai ho gauri maa
amar suhaagan jai devi maa

Pamela: (ho maiyaa shrigaar teraa laal hai) (2)

Chorus: ho gauri shrigaar teraa laal hai

Pamela: laal mahaavar laal laal mehandi
laal sindoor to laal laal chunari
mrigmad kaa tilak tere bhaal hai
darshan karke ye manvaa nihaal hai

Chorus: ho gauri shrigaar teraa laal hai

Pamela: ho man vaanchhit var denewaali
rakhiyo amar suhaag ki laali
(jai gauri maa teri jai ho gauri maa
amar suhaagan jai devi maa) (2)

Chorus: jai gauri maa teri jai ho gauri maa
amar suhaagan jai devi maa

Movie: Vivah (2006)
Music Director: Ravindra Jain
Singer: Pamela Jain
Lyrics: Ravindra Jain

The song starts after 4:10 mins in this video.

Ya Ali Rahem Ali

ya ali rahem ali ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh zindagi
ishq pe haan mita doon luta doon main apni khudi
yaar pe haan luta doon mita doon main ye hasti

ya ali rahem ali ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh zindagi

Yeh Hausla Kaise Jhuke

It is when I hear songs like this I realize the HFM has still not lost it all. I don't listen to new music unless I accidently hear it somewhere and find it interesting, then I do listen to it. This year, Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 has been fantastic in that sense. Specially for me, I've discovered some really great new melodies that I would have never listened to otherwise. When Amanat Ali sang this song on June 23, I remember I loved the song and then Ismail Darbar said that may be this was one song that deserved to be the one who won his ultimate gift. Both the versions of this song - one by Amanat Ali and Shafaqat Ali Khan are fantastic. I can't decide which one I like more. I do wish Amanat sang the entire song on the show (so greedy!) but it was lovely nevertheless. I love the soulful music that goes with the song by Salim-Sulaiman. And it was first time I read the name of this lyricist - Mir Ali Hussain. Beautiful words he has penned. Such a great contribution to HFM by all of these artists! As I read somewhere, this is the kind of the songs that grows on to you with time and it's so true.

(yeh hauslaa kaise jhuke
yeh aarzoo kaise ruke) (2)

manzil mushkil to kyaa
dhoondhlaa saahil to kyaa
tanhaa yeh dil to kyaa ho

raah pe kaante bikhre agar
uss pe to phir bhi chalnaa hi hai
shaam chhupaale suraj magar
raat ko ek din dhalnaa hi hai
rut yeh tal jaayegi
himmat rang laayegi
subah phir aayegi ho

ho ho ho

(yeh hauslaa kaise jhuke
yeh aarzoo kaise ruke) (2)

(the flute playing here is absolutely beautiful!)

ho ho ho

hogi hume jo rehmat adaa
dhoop kategi saaye tale
apni khudaa se hai yeh duaa
manzil lagaa le hum ko gale
jurrat sau baar rahe
unchaa ikraar rahe
zindaa har pyaar rahe

ho ho ho

(yeh hauslaa kaise jhuke
yeh aarzoo kaise ruke) (2)

(sad)
aa...
rishte bharose chaahat yakeen
un sab ka daaman ab chaak hai
samjhe the haathon mein hai zameen
mutthi jo kholi bas khaak hai
dil mein yeh shor hai kyon
imaan kamzor hai kyon
naazuk yeh dor hai kyon
kesariya... baalam...

Tu Jo Nahin Hai

There aren't too many new songs that appeal me but I started listening to some of them after Pooja recommended I should listen to some new stuff as well. Since some song of Woh Lamhe was one of the top 10s on MIO, I decided to listen to the tracks of Woh Lamhe. Quite good album I'd say but one song was better than the rest. It's the first song that I've heard that I liked of this trio - Glenn John, Pritam Chakraborty, Neelesh Misra. The song reminds me of other oldies based mainly on raaga Darbari Kanada and raaga Jaunpuri. There are significant similarities between this track and some of the famous old songs in the tunes and the singing as well.

[The flute plays so beautifully in the beginning, and the piano tunes take me back to tum paas aaye era]

(Tu jo nahin hai to kuch bhi nahin hai
Yeh maana ki mehfil jawaan hai haseen hai) (2)
Tu jo nahin hai to kuch bhi nahin hai

(Mujhe phir tabaah kar mujhe phir rulaa jaa
Sitam karne waale kahin se tu aajaa) (2)
Kahin se tu aaja

[Takes me back to "koi dil ke khel dekhe" stanza of ""raha gardishon mein har dum" from Do Badan]

Aankhon mein teri soorat basi hai
Teri hi tarah tera gham bhi haseen hai
Tu jo nahin hai to kuch bhi nahin hai (2)

(Jidhar bhi yeh dekhe jahaan bhi yeh jaaye
Tujhe dhoondhti hai yeh paagal nigaahen) (2)
Yeh paagal nigaahen

Main zinda hoon lekin kahaan zindagi hai
Meri Zindagi tu kahaan kho gayi hai
Tu jo nahin hai to kuch bhi nahin hai
Yeh maana ki mehfil jawaan hai haseen hai
