Jeevan Dor Tumhi Sang Baandhi

Raag Yaman Kalyan has been one of my favorite ones in recent times and subconsciously or otherwise I keep humming songs that are based on this raag so today as I sat down to listen to all of these songs on youtube, and discovered this beautiful melody by none other than Lata Mangeshkar. Oh how I wish I can go to Mumbai and meet her once. Just once. I'd feel more blessed. The song is out of this world and it's thanks to LP music. Bharat Vyas has penned this one. Wish I also got to see the video of the song... absolutely love everything about this one!

jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi (2)
kya toDenge is bandhan ko
jag toofaan aandhi re aandhi

ho na sake kabhi hum tum nyaare (2)
do tan hai ek praaN hamaare
chaahe mile path mein andhiyaare
chaahe ghire ho baadal saare
phir bhi rahoongi tumhaari tumhaari
jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi
jeevan dor

(so love the violins here!)

yoon ghul-mil rehna jeevan mein
jaise rahe kajra akhiyan mein
teri chhabi chhaayi rahe man mein
tera hi naam rahe dhadkan mein
tere daras ki main pyaasi re pyaasi
jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi (2)

kaisa mujhe vardaan mila hai (2)
tum kya mile bhagwaan mila hai
ab to janam bhar sang rahega
is mehndi ka rang rahega
tere charaN ki main daasi re daasi
jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi (2)

Jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai..

Listening to another duet I came across this one. I don't think I've ever listened to this one before. It completely blew me away... Love the raag malkauns and Rafi sahab's singing. Shammi Kapoor looks so very handsome as ever and actress so much like a mix of Asha Parekh and Vyjayantimala. It's the very beautiful B. Saroja Devi. Too bad she can't act nearly as well as Asha Parekh or Vyjayantimala.

This song takes me back to so many other songs based on the same raag, like chhu lene do nazuk hothon ko, man tarpat hari darsan ko aaj, and songs/music of Navrang.. so beautiful!

jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai (2)
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

aayi hai mere paas tu is aan-baan se (2)
utari ho jaise koyi pari aasmaan se
main kya kahoon khushi se ajab mera haal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

haaye yeh teri mast adaayeh yeh baankpan (2)
kiranon ko bhi main chhoone na doonga tera badan
tujhse nazar milaaye yeh kiski majaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

main khush-naseeb hoon ke tujhe maine paa liya (2)
toone karam kiya apna bana liya
aise mile hai hum ke bichhadna muhaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

Chandan Sa Badan

I recently got a chance to play antakshari with 15 people and we all had an amazing time. The other team sang one of my favorite songs that I had forgotten. I like both the versions of this song equally for their singers, the raag Yaman and the music and of course lyrics. Also, it's a special song because it is the very first song that I learned how to play on a harmonium/keyboard. Youtube is a blessing now, I was able to find both of them on there and enjoyed watching them as well. Hope you'd like them too.

Male version:

hmm hmm hmm hmm...

(chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa) (2)
mujhe dosh naa denaa jagwaalon (2)
ho jaau agar main deewaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan

(yeh kaam kamaan bhanwe teri
palkon ke kinaare kajaraare) (2)
maathe par sindoori suraj
hothon pe dahekte angaare
saayaa bhi jo teraa pad jaaye (2)
aabaad ho dil kaa veeraanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan

(tan bhi sundar man bhi sundar
tu sundartaa ki moorat hai) (2)
kisi aur ko shaayad kam hogi
mujhe teri bahot zaroorat hai
pehle bhi bahot main tarsaa hoon (2)
tu aur na mujhko tarsaana

chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa
mujhe dosh naa denaa jagwaalon (2)
ho jaau agar main deewaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan

~~~~~*~~~~~
Female version:
(chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa) (2)
mujhe dosh naa denaa jagwaalon (2)
ho jaaye agar dil deewaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
yeh vishaal nayan jaise neel gagan
panchhi ki tarah kho jaau main
sirahaanaa jo ho teri baahon kaa
angaaron pe so jaau main
meraa bairaagi man dol gayaa (2)
dekhi jo adaa teri mastaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
tan bhi sundar man bhi sundar
tu sundartaa ki moorat hai
kisi aur ko shaayad kam hogi
mujhe teri bahot zaroorat hai
pehle bhi bahot dil tarsaa hai (2)
tu aur na dil ko tarsaana
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa
Haaye Re Woh Din Kyon Na Aaye
Such a beautiful song.. mom would always hum this one ever since I was a kid, now I know why. The raag is so addicting. And it did remind me of "kaahe tarsaaye" of Chitralekha. That's because both are based on same raag. :)
I think the person who the song is picturized on is Leela Naidu. So very beautiful looking lady and Balraj Sahani looks quite handsome.
I wonder whether the music director is same as Pt. Ravi Shankar... may be not. Shailendra's lyrics touch heart through Lataji's voice, which travels like an arrow from the bow.
haaye re woh din kyon na aaye (2)
jaa jaa ke ritu (2) laut aaye
haaye re woh din kyon na aaye
jhilmil woh taare kahaan gaye saare (2)
man baati jale bujh jaaye
haaye re woh din kyon na aaye
jaa jaa ke ritu laut aaye
haaye re woh din kyon na aaye
sooni meri beenaa sangeet binaa (2)
sapnon ki maalaa murjhaaye
haaye re woh din kyon na aaye
jaa jaa ke ritu laut aaye
haaye re woh din kyon na aaye
Zaraa Si Aahat Hoti Hai
This one I can tell is Yaman Kalyan as it reminds me of aansoo bhari hai and so many others including aaye ho meri zindagi mein.
Just watched the video of this song for the first time today and enjoyed it so much. Priya Rajvansh looks so very beautiful; even more pretty than she looked in Heer Ranjha.
To say anything about Lata-Madan Mohan combo isn't enough so I'll just refrain from saying anything at all. Hope you enjoy the song as much as I do.
ps. It's one of those that I enjoy humming often like nain so nain. :)
zara si aahat hoti hai to dil sochta hai
kahin yeh woh to nahin (3)
zara si aahat hoti hai to dil sochta hai
kahin yeh woh to nahin (3)
chhupke seene mein aa aa aa...
chhupke seene mein koi jaise sadaa deta hai
shaam se pehle diya dil ka jalaa deta hai
hai usi ki yeh sadaa
hai usi ki yeh adaa
kahin yeh woh to nahin (3)
shakl phirti hai haa aa aa...
shakl phirti nigaahon mein wohi pyaari si
meri nas nas mein machalne lagi chingaari si
chhu gayi jism mera
kis ke daaman ki hawaa
kahin yeh woh to nahin (3)
zara si aahat hoti hai to dil sochta hai
kahin yeh woh to nahin (3)
Nain So Nain Naahi Milaao
One of the songs I hum the most absentmindedly, without realizing I'm humming it. Don't know why!
It was wonderful to see Gopi Krishna on film first time as I'd only seen him in family photos. One of mom's uncles was his close friends so I had never got to see Gopi Krishna dancing until I watched this song a little while back. Beautiful dance by both the dancers.
The voices of Lata ji and Hemant da so romantic... awesome song!
M: saavdhaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao (2)
dekhat soorat aavat laaj saiyaan
M: pyaar se pyaar aa ke sajaao (2)
madhur milan gaavat aaj guiyaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao
nain so nain
aa aa aa aa aa aa
(chorus)
aa aa aa aa aa aa
F: khincho kamaan maaro ji baan (2)
rut hai jawaan o more praan
ruk kyon gaye?
M: tum ne chori kar li kamaan
kaise maarun preet kaa baan guiyaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao
nain so nain
aa aa aa aa aa aa
(chorus)
aa aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa... aa aa aa aa... aa aa aa
F: rim jhim jhim gaaye jharanon ki dhaar
dil ko lubhaaye koyal pukaar
M: nahin...
F: to phir?
M: jharanon ki dhaaron mein teraa sangeet
gaaye koyal teraa hi geet guiyaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao
nain so nain
aa aa aa aa aa aa
(chorus)
aa aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
F: neele gagan pe jhoomenge aaj (2)
baadal kaa pyaar dekhenge aaj
samjha
kyaa?
M: baadal naiyaa hai bijli patavaar
hum tum chal de duniyaa ke paar guiyaan
F: nain so nain naahi milaao
dekhat soorat aavat laaj saiyaan
nain so nain naahi milaao
nain so nain
Prem Jogan Ban Ke
One of the most classic and romantic songs I've ever watched or listened to. I can't decipher most of the lyrics so I'm going to skip that for this song.
An interesting and informative quote by amit on Chowk: Life: Top Ten South Asian Pieces of Music:
Actually the Bade Ghulam Ali song in Mugal-e-Azam (Prem Jogan Ban Ke) is in Raag Sohni rather than Darbari. The seduction scene of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala was shot earlier. Khan saheb wanted to view the scene while singing for it. Hence his voice modulation is timed closely with the actual movements on the screen. It is truly a masterpiece.
ps. I have a video clip of color version of this song. Will put it up as soon as possible. Until then enjoy the b/w one.
Color video has been added!
Friday filosofical song
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai (2)
maro to ause ke jaise tumhaaraa kuchh bhi nahin
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
yeh ek raaz ke duniya na jis ko jaan saki
yehi woh raaz hai jo zindagi ka haansil hai
tumhi kaho tumhe yeh baat kaise samjhaau
ke zindagi ki ghutan zindagi ki qaatil hai (2)
har ek nigaah ko kudrat kaa ek ishaaraa hai
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
jahaan mein aa ke jahaan se khiche khiche na raho
woh zindagi hi nahin jis mein aas bujh jaaye
koi bhi pyaas dabaaye se dab nahin sakti
isi se chain milegaa ke pyaas bujh jaaye (2)
yeh keh ke mudtaa huaa zindagi kaa dhaaraa hai
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
yeh aasmaan yeh zameen yeh fizaa yeh nazaare (2)
taras rahe hai tumhaari meri nazar ke liye
nazar churaa ke har ek shay ko yoon naa thukraao
koi shariq-e-safar dhoondh lo safar ke liye (2)
bahot kareeb se maine tumhe pukaaraa hai (2)
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai
maro to ause ke jaise tumhaaraa kuchh bhi nahin
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
Akele Hai Chale Aao
I just realized that this song is written by Shamim Jaipuri. Never heard his name until today... wow! what fabulous poetry he writes. Rafi sahab's singing makes you feel the emotions in this one. And well acted by Rajesh Khanna. He looks so handsome! Now I can believe that there were girls that actually committed suicide after hearing about his marriage (to Dimple Kapadia). Now I will be watching Raaz again just for this song.
M: akele hai chale aao jahaan ho (2)
kahaan aawaaz de tum ko kahaan ho
akele hai chale aao jahaan ho
tumhe hum dhoondhte hai hume dil dhoondhta hai (2)
na ab manzil hai koi na koi raasta hai
akele hai chale aao jahaan ho
kahaan aawaaz de tum ko kahaan ho
akele hai
(love the orchestra playing here)
yeh tanhaayi ka aalam aur is par aap ka gham (2)
na jeete hai na marte bataao kya kare hum
akele hai chale aao jahaan ho
kahaan aawaaz de tum ko kahaan ho
akele hai
F: chale aao (3)
Meri veena tum bin roye
आ आ आ...
मेरी वीना तुम बिन रोये (२)
सजना सजना सजना
मेरी वीना तुम बिन रोये
सांवरियाँ तुम जहाँ बसे हो मैं वो गाँव न जानू
बीतेगी कब बिरहा की यह पापन शाम न जानू
हाय मधुर मिलन कब होए
सजना सजना सजना
मेरी वीना तुम बिन रोये
तुझ बिन मेरे गीत अधूरे होठों पे शरमाये
साज़ उठाऊ तार न बाजे तड़प तड़प रेह जाए
मेरी पीड न जाने कोई
सजना सजना सजना
मेरी वीना तुम बिन रोये
हाय रोये (२)
aa aa aa...
meri veena tum bin roye (2)
sajna sajna sajna
meri veena tum bin roye
saanwariyaan tum jahaan base ho main woh gaanv na jaanu
beetegi kab birha ki yeh paapan shaam na jaanu
haaye madhur milan kab hoye
sajna sajna sajna
meri veena tum bin roye
tujh bin mere geet adhure hothon pe sharmaaye
saaz uthaau taar na baaje tadap tadap reh jaaye
meri peed na jaane koi
sajna sajna sajna
meri veena tum bin roye
haaye roye (2)
Dost dost na rahaa
Speaking of famous piano songs, one can't forget this one. Just an awesome drama and just this one song summarizes the entire storyline.
SJ's soulful music, and the melancholic voice of Mukesh are fantastic. I still wonder how these lyricists come up with these songs, so deep and so meaningful.
Rajendra Kumar and Vaijayantimala make a stunning pair!
Songs like these make you realize how Raj Kapoor was partial for songs based on raag bhairavi. Just awesome how so many songs from this film are based on that same raag.
दोस्त दोस्त ना रहा प्यार प्यार ना रहा
ज़िंदगी हमें तेरा
ऐतबार ना रहा (२)
दोस्त दोस्त ना रहा प्यार प्यार ना रहा
ज़िंदगी हमें तेरा
ऐतबार ना रहा (२)
अमानातें में प्यार की गया था जिसको सौंप कर
वो मेरे दोस्त तुम ही थे तुम्ही तो थे
जो ज़िंदगी की राह में बने थे मेरे हमसफ़र
वो मेरे दोस्त तुम ही थे तुम्ही तो थे
सारे भेद खुल गए राजदार ना रहा
ज़िंदगी हमें तेरा
ऐतबार ना रहा (२)
(the way their eyes communicate here is just awesome! what fantastic direction!)
गले लगी सहेम सहेम भरे गले से बोलती
वो तुम न थी तो कौन था तुम्ही तो थी
सफर के वक्त में पलक पे मोतियों को तौलती
वो तुम न थी तो कौन था तुम्ही तो थी
नशे की रात ढल गयी अब खुमार ना रहा
ज़िंदगी हमें तेरा
ऐतबार ना रहा (२)
दोस्त दोस्त ना रहा प्यार प्यार ना रहा
ज़िंदगी हमें तेरा
ऐतबार ना रहा (२)
