Karvate badalte rahe..

One of my most favorite duet songs of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. It gives me goosebumps listening to the music. What mesmerizing music! I think it's tabla and sitar and flute doing it. I also hear shehnayi somewhere in between. Could be totally off there.

And Kaka and Mummu have acted so well. Couldn't have been more perfect than it is picturized. Wish I get a chance to watch the movie some day. I don't remember watching the whole thing in one go. I think Door Darshan played it in early 90s on a weekend.

F: ho ho ho..
M: ho.. ho ho
F: ho ho ho
M: hm hm hm..

F: karvate badalte rahe saari raat hum (2)
aap ki kasam (2)
karvate badalte rahe saari raat hum
aap ki kasam (2)

M: gham na karo din judaai ke bahot hai kam
aap ki kasam (2)

F: yaad tum aate rahe ek hook si uthati rahi
neend mujhse neend se main bhaagti chhupti rahi
raat bhar bairan nigodi chandni chubhati rahi
aag si jalti rahi girti rahi shabnam
aap ki kasam (2)

M: jheel si aankhon mein aashiq doob ke kho jaayega
zulf ke saaye mein dil armaan bharaa so jaayega
tum chale jaao nahin to kuchh na kuchh ho jaayega
dagmagaa jaayenge aise haal mein kadam
aap ki kasam (2)

F: rooth jaaye hum to tum hum ko manaa lenaa sanam
M: door ho to paas hum ko tum bulaa lenaa sanam
F: kuchh geela ho to gale hum ko lagaa lenaa sanam
Both: toot na jaaye kabhi yeh pyaar ki kasam
F: aap ki kasam (2)

Jab hum jawaan honge...

Just remembered this song out of no where while watching some songs on youtube. I like it quite a lot.

F: (jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge) (2)
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge

jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge

ho ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho

(jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge) (2)
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge

jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge

(yeh bachpan ka pyaar agar kho jaayega
dil kitna khaali kaali ho jaayega) (2)
tere khayaalon se isse aabaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge

M: jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge

hehehe
hehehehe

aise hansti thi woh aise chalti thi (2)
chaand ke jaise chhupti aur nikalti thi
aise hansti thi woh aise chalti thi
chaand ke jaise chhupti aur nikalti thi
sab se teri baatein tere baad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge

F: jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge

aa aa aa aa..
(what lovely smile does Amrita have!)

F: tere shabnami khwaabon ki tasveeron se
M: teri reshami zulfon ki zanjeeron se

F: tere shabnami khwaabon ki tasveeron se
M: teri reshami zulfon ki zanjeeron se
kaise hum apne aap ko aazaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge

wahaan fariyaad karenge
tujhe yaad karenge

Aap ki aankhon mein kuchh...

What a gorgeous song! Almost everything except for that smoking and him blowing dhua in her face *disgusting* but I'll overlook that for a bit. What a fun song otherwise. Absolutely love the singers, lyrics and music and both actors. I do have to admit that the lyrics take the cake here, for me at least.

How handsome does Vinod Mehra look. No wonder Rekha fell in love with him. Anyone would. And she too looks absolutely lovely and so simple in the most simple saaris.

M: aap ki aankhon mein kuchh mehke hue se raaz hai (2)
aap se bhi khoobsoorat aap ke andaaz hai
aap ki aankhon mein kuchh mehke hue se raaz hai

(love the music that plays here)

lab hile to mogare ke phool khilte hai kahin (2)

hehehe

Waadiyaan mera daaman...

So actually it happens so that in Hulchul, it is not when Kishanbhaiya/Murari arrives at Gangapur this Rafi song plays. It is when Jai and Lucky get off the bus (at 1:30:00 in this clip) this song plays. Then the song playing when Kishanbhaiya arrives (at 1:33:00 min) is different and quite inaudible so it's hard to listen.

Coming back to our song now.. wow! what a fabulous song... and it's all thanks to the RDB music & the way Rafi sahab has sung this song. Nothing else adds to it. The dhun is so catchy and echoing music out of this world! I guess this must be my favorite song too because it also falls under the most-absentmindedly-hummed category.

Sanjay Khan and Nanda are just about okay in the gorgeous melodious male solo version of the song seems a bit haunting at times. The softer romantic female version, which could actually be a duet, is picturized on Nanda and Marathi actor Kashinath Ghanekar. Note how both versions have completely different music.

M: (waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge) (2)
waadiyaan mera daaman

jab churaaoge tan tum kisi baat se (2)
shaakh-e-gul chhed degi mere haath se
apni hi zulf ko aur uljaaoge
waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge
waadiyaan mera daaman

jab se milne lagi tum se raahen meri (2)
chaand sooraj bani do nigaahen meri
tum kahin bhi raho tum nazar aaoge
(waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge) (2)
waadiyaan mera daaman

~~~~~
M: waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge
F: (waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge) (2)
waadiyaan mera daaman
jab hasegi kali rang waali koyi (2)
aur jhuk jaayegi tum pe dalai koyi
sir jhukaaye hue tum mujhe paaoge
waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge
waadiyaan mera daaman
chal rahe ho jahaan is nazar se pare (2)
woh dagar to guzarti hai dil se mere
dagmagaate hue tum yehi aaoge
(waadiyaan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
jaao mere siva tum kahaan jaaoge) (2)
waadiyaan mera daaman
Sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil...
Just yesterday, I remembered this song out of no where. I think listening to shokh nazar on ki bijaliyaan on Atul's blog a couple of days back might have something to do with it. Both the songs fall under the same category - Asha solos and not the most famous songs from their corresponding films. I think there's more songs that fall under this category and for some reason, I like them a lot and truly enjoy listening to them.
This is a ghazal-like slow song on a piano and a completely expressionless Priya. Even Raj Kumar and Rajesh Khanna can't help it but Vinod Khanna does that in just a few seconds he's on screen and oh-so-gorgeous Hema Malini. I don't remember whether I've watched the film or not, but both of these make me want to. RDB music, specially tabla are quite enjoyable, along with the beautiful lyrics penned by Majroohji.
ho sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil
sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil rang yoon hi dhalne do
(sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil rang yoon hi dhalne do
ek charaag bujhne do ek charaag jalne do)(2)
sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil rang yoon hi dhalne do
(saaz-e-tamannaa laao koyi geet gaaye hum
jashn-e-mohabbat hai yeh jhoom ke manaaye hum)(2)
shaam yeh muraadon ki subah tak to chalne do
sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil rang yoon hi dhalne do
ek charaag bujhne do ek charaag jalne do
sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil rang yoon hi dhalne do
(ab to nazar bhi apni rukti hai duaa ban kar
dhadkan bhi nikli dil se naghmaa-e-wafaa ban kar)(2)
aaj to dilon jaake hasrate nikalne do
sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil rang yoon hi dhalne do
ek charaag bujhne do ek charaag jalne do
Sharm aati hai magar...
One of my favorite songs of Saira Banu. Of course, it's not only her who makes it so but all other artists that make this one what it is, a gem that is. Absolutely love the music and lyrics of this one along with the singer! It's fun to watch it as well.
Today happens to be Saira Banu's birthday as well so wishing her lots of happiness, health and all that is beautiful just as she is. :) As I've said in the past too, this woman knows how to wear white sarees the best! I love that about her.
sharm aati hai magar aaj yeh kehnaa hoga (2)
ab hume aap ke kadmon hi mein rehnaa hoga
sharm aati hai magar
aap se rooth ke hum jitnaa jiye khaak jiye (2)
kayi ilzaam liye aur kayi ilzaam diye
aaj ke baad magar kuchh bhi na kehnaa hoga
ab hume aap ke kadmon hi mein rehnaa hoga
sharm aati hai magar aaj yeh kehnaa hoga
(absolutely love the music here)
der ke baad yeh samjhe hai mohabbat kyaa hai
ab hume chaand ke jhoomar ki zuroorat kyaa hai
pyaar se badhke bhalaa kaun sa gehna hoga (what beautiful eyes she has got in this part of the clip)
ab hume aap ke kadmon hi mein rehnaa hoga
sharm aati hai magar aaj yeh kehnaa hoga
aap ke pyaar ka beemaar hamaara dil hai (2)
aap ke gham ka khareedaar hamaara dil hai
aap ko apna koyi dard na sehnaa hoga
ab hume aap ke kadmon hi mein rehna hoga
sharm aati hai magar aaj yeh kehnaa hoga
ab hume aap ke kadmon hi mein rehnaa hoga
sharm aati hai hm hm hm...
Huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye...
Bhupinder Singh's signature ghazals are the best to listen to when you want to relax from a tiring day. They take you to this state of mind where all you can do is just listen to them and smile. This is one of my favorites of him along with Suresh Wadkar. What beautiful singers both of them are. But what adds sone pe suhaga here is Gulzar's lyrics and RDB music.... and it turns into pure enjoyment...
BS: aa aa aa aa aa.. aa aa aa..
SW: aa aa... aa aa aa aa...
BS: huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye (2)
khule aam aanchal na lehraa ke chaliye
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye
khule aam aanchal na lehraa ke chaliye
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye...
koyi manchalaa gar pakad legaa aanchal
aa aa aa koyi manchalaa gar pakad legaa aanchal
zaraa sochiye aap kyaa keejiyegaa
SW: lagaa de agar badhke zulfon mein kaliyaan (2)
to kyaa apni zulfen jhatak deejiyegaa
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye
khule aam aanchal na lehraa ke chaliye
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye
aa aa aa.. aa aa aa...
badi dil nashi hai haseen ki yeh ladiyaan (2)
yeh moti magar yoon na bikharaaya keeje
BS: udaa ke na le jaaye jhokhaa hawaa ka (2)
lachakta badan yoon na lehraaya keeje
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye
SW: khule aam aanchal na lehraa ke chaliye
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye
bahot khubsoorat hai har baat lekin (2)
agar dil bhi hotaa to kyaa baat hoti
BS: likhi jaati phir daastaan-e-mohabbat (2)
ek afsaane jaisi mulaaqaat hoti
huzoor is kadar bhi na itaraa ke chaliye
SW: khule aam aanchal na lehraa ke chaliye
Mere Naina Saawan Bhaadon...
Papu and I were listening to the 70s songs together and first one that we listened to together was this one. What a haunting melody! I love both versions but I'm more partial towards Kishore Kumar's version. I don't know what it is about that version, it's like magnet. This one is based on raag shivranjani.
M: hmm hmm aha ha ha
mere nainaa saawan bhaandon
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa (2)
mere nainaa saawan bhaandon
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa (2)
aye dil deevaane khel hai kyaa jaane
dard bharaa yeh geet kahaan se
in honthon pe aaye door kahin le jaaye
bhool gayaa kyaa bhool ke bhi hai
mujhko yaad zaraa saa
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa
baat puraani hai ek kahaani hai
ab sochu tumhe yaad nahin hai
ab sochu nahin bhoole
woh saawan ke jhoole
rutu aaye rut jaaye de kar
jhoothaa ek dilaasaa
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa
barso beet gaye hum ko mile bichhade
bijuri ban kar gagan pe chamki
beete samay ki rekhaa
maine tum ko dekhaa
man sang aankh-micholi khele
aashaa aur niraashaa
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa
mere nainaa saawan bhaandon
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa (3)
F:
ho ho ho.. ho ho... ho ho ho ho...
mere nainaa saawan bhaandon
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa (2)
ho ho ho.. ho ho... ho ho ho ho...
baat puraani hai ek kahaani hai
ho baat puraani hai
ab sochu tumhe yaad nahin hai
ab sochu nahin bhoole
woh saawan ke jhoole
rutu aaye rut jaaye de ke
jhoothaa ek dilaasaa
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa
ho ho ho.. ho ho... ho ho ho...
barso beet gaye hum ko mile bichhade
bijuri ban kar gagan pe chamki
beete samay ki rekhaa
maine tum ko dekhaa
tadap tadap ke is birhan ko
aaya chain zaraa sa
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa
ghoonghroo ki chham chham
ban gayi dil kaa gham
doob gayaa dil yaadon mein
ubhari berang lakeeren
dekho yeh tasveeren
soone mehel mein naach rahi hai
ab tak ek rakkaasaa phir bhi
phir bhi meraa man pyaasaa
Kehna Hai Kehna Hai
Today, we were listening to some of these songs and I asked Papu about which is his favorite song of Kishore Kumar. This is the one he likes the most. I love the lyrics, the music and of course the voice. :)
kehna hai... kehna hai...
(kehna hai... kehna hai... aaj tum se yeh pehli baar
ho tum hi to laayi ho jeevan mein mere pyaar pyaar pyaar) (2)
tum se kehne waali aur bhi hai pyaari baaten (2)
saamne sab ke bolo kaise keh doon saari baaten
aaj magar bas itna hi karna hai iqraar
tum hi to laayi ho jeevan mein mere pyaar pyaar pyaar
kab se dil ne mere maan liya hai tum ko apna (2)
aankhen meri dekh rahi hai jaagte sote sapna
mere gale mein daal rahi ho tum baahon ka haar
tum hi to laayi ho jeevan mein mere pyaar pyaar pyaar
tum se kehne waali aur bhi hai pyaari baaten (2)
saamne sab ke bolo kaise keh doon saari baaten
aaj magar bas itna hi karna hai iqraar
tum hi to laayi ho jeevan mein mere pyaar pyaar pyaar
kehna hai... kehna hai... aaj tum se yeh pehli baar
Tere Bina Jiya Jaaye Na
I completely adore all the songs of this movie. All of them are fantastic and I think that's because it's RDB's work. Of course, with due credits to the singers but it's not often that the entire soundtrack turns out this good. This is one of those rare films where each and every song is simply fantastic! The film is alerady on the to-be-watched list... hopefully... some day. :)
Vinod Mehra is entirely handsome and Rekha so good looking... it's even fun to watch them. The beautifully penned lyrics by Gulzar ji once again convey messages of hearts that are felt more often, rarely described so precisely.
F: tere bina jiya jaaye na (4)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na
ho ho ho ho
tere bina jiya jaaye na (2)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na
ho ho ho ho
tere bina jiya jaaye na
(jab bhi khayaalon mein tu aaye
mere badan se khushbu aaye) (2)
mehke badan mein rahaa na jaaye
rahaa jaaye na
tere bina jiya jaaye na (2)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na
tere bina jiya jaaye na (2)
(reshmi raaten roz na hongi
yeh saugaaten roz na hongi) (2)
zindigi tujh bin raas na aaye
raas aaye na
M: tere bina jiya jaaye na (2)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na
ho ho ho ho
tere bina jiya jaaye na
Suhaani Chaandani Raatein
One of my favorite Mukesh songs. I watched it for the first time today on video and found it interesting to see Mukesh giving voice for Shashi Kapoor as his is a signature voice for Raj Kapoor mostly. It's a beautiful song and I was quite surprised to find it a piano song. :)
I am curious to find out the story of the film now. Vidya Sinha, Sanjeev Kumar, A. K. Hangal in it too? hmm...
RDB music wants to make you keep humming this one all day long after you've listened to it once.
सुहानी चाँदनी रातें हमे सोने नहीं देती (२)
तुम्हारे प्यार की बातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
सुहानी चाँदनी रातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
तुम्हारी रेशमी जुल्फों में दील के फूल खिलते थे (२)
कहीं फूलों के मौसम में हम तुम भी मिलते थे
पुरानी वो मुलाकातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
तुम्हारे प्यार की बातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
सुहानी चाँदनी रातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
कहीं ऐसा न हो लग जाए दील में आग पानी से (२)
बदल ले रास्ता अपना घटाए मेहेरबानी से
के यादों की ये बरसातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
तुम्हारे प्यार की बातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
सुहानी चाँदनी रातें हमे सोने नहीं देती
suhaani chaandani raatein hume sone nahin deti (2)
tumhaare pyaar ki baatein hume sone nahin deti
suhaani chaandani raatein hume sone nahin deti
tumhaari reshami zulfon mein dil ke phool khilte the (2)
kahin phooolon ke mausam mein hum tum bhi milate the
puraani woh mulaakaaten hume sone nahin deti
tumhaare pyaar ki baatein hume sone nahin deti
suhaani chaandani raatein hume sone nahin deti
kahin aisaa na ho lag jaaye dil mein aag paani se (2)
badal le raastaa apnaa ghataaye meherbaani se
ke yaadon ki yeh barsaaten hume sone nahin deti
tumhaare pyaar ki baatein hume sone nahin deti
Kya Jaanoo Sajan
When you think haunting melodies the only name that comes to mind is Lata Mangeshkar. No one can even come close. It's like only she can sing those songs and no one else. This one became my favorite the instance I heard it, back in 2002. It appears so that they included this same song in Kavita Krishnamurthy's voice in a movie called Dil Vil Pyar Vyar (2002) and so when I heard it in her voice, I searched for it and eventually found out the original is by none other than our very own Lataji.
The original picturization is quite nice too, which I found out only a couple of months back. :)
I think here the combination of all three of these - singer's voice, the lyrics and the music make the song haunting, and not just the music.
आ आ हम हम हम हम
क्या जानू सजन होती है क्या घम की शाम
जल उठे सौ दिये जब लिया तेरा नाम
क्या जानू सजन होती है क्या घम की शाम
जल उठे... आ
सौ दिये... आ
जब लिया तेरा नाम, क्या जानू सजन
काँटों में मैं खड़ी नैनों के द्वार पे
निस दिन बहार के देखूं सपने
काँटों में मैं खड़ी... आ
नैनों के द्वार पे... हो हो
निस दिन बहार के... आ
देखूं सपने
चेहरे की धूल क्या चंदा की चांदनी
उतरी तो रेह गई मुख पे अपने
क्या जानू सजन होती है क्या घम की शाम
जल उठे सौ दिये जब लिया तेरा नाम
क्या जानू सजन
जब से मिली नज़र माथे पे बंध गई
बिंदिया नयन तेरे देखो सजना
जब से मिली नज़र... आ आ आ
माथे पे बाँध गई... हो हो
बिंदिया नयन तेरे... आ
देखो सजना
धर ली जो प्यार से मेरी कलाइयां
पिया तेरी उंगलियाँ हो गई कंगना
क्या जानू सजन होती है क्या घम की शाम
जल उठे सौ दिये जब लिया तेरा नाम
क्या जानो सजन
जल उठे सौ दिये जब लिया तेरा नाम
क्या जानू सजन होती है क्या घम की शाम
जल उठे... आ
सौ दिये... आ आ
जब लिया तेरा नाम... आ आ
क्या जानू सजन होती है क्या घम की शाम
जल उठे... आ
सौ दिये... आ आ
जब लिया तेरा नाम... आ आ
क्या जानू सजन
Saawan Ke Jhule Pade...
Discovered this one quite recently when I was just listening to songs from Amitabh Bachchan films, and ever since then I can't stop listening to this one. Such a sweet romantic number it is. Parts of the song remind me of the title song of Chupke Chupke - "chupke chupke chal ri purvaiya". And of course why wouldn't it? After all it's Lata gem and Anand Bakshi's lyrics and dada Burman's music.
The background music that incorporates the 7-beat Taal Rupak tells me the song is probably based on some raag. Out of curiosity I tried searching for more info but haven't been able to find it. In any case, the song is such fun to listen to...
आ आ आ आ
सावन के झूले पड़े (२)
तुम चले आओ (४)
आँचल ना छोडे मेरा पागल हुई है पवन
पवन...
आँचल ना छोडे मेरा पागल हुई है पवन
आ आ आ आ अब क्या करूं में जतन
धडके जिया जैसे पंछी उडे हाँ
सावन के झूले पड़े
तुम चले आओ (२)
दील ने पुकारा तुम्हे यादों के परदेस से
आ आ
दील ने पुकारा तुम्हे यादों के परदेस से
आ आ आ आ आती है जो देस से
हम उस डगर पे है कब से खडे हाँ
सावन के झूले पड़े
तुम चले आओ (२)
जब हम मिले थे पिया तुम कितने नादान थे
हाँ आ आ
जब हम मिले थे पिया तुम कितने नादान थे
आ आ आ आ हम कितने अंजान थे
बाली उमरियाँ में नैना लडे हाँ
सावन के झूले पड़े
तुम चले आओ (४)
Aanewala Pal Jaanewala Hai
So Zahida asked today: What Song is an Inspiration To You?
Is there any particular song that gives you a positive feeling when U are feeling down?? Please share your favourite songs that really inspires you in life.
And the only one I could think of was this one. This is one song I never get tired of listening or watching...
Kishore Kumar's voice sweet as honey and Gulzar sahab's lyrics with RDB music! That's a totally deadly combo. And the song is a treat to watch because of Hrishida's direction.
hummmm aha ha ha hey hey hey...
aanewala pal jaanewala hai (2)
ho sake to iss mein zindagi bitaa do
pal jo yeh jaanewala hai ho ho
aanewala pal jaanewala hai
ho sake to iss mein zindagi bitaa do
pal jo yeh jaanewala hai ho ho
ek baar yoon mili maasoom si kali(2)
ho khilte hue kahaan pushpaash mein chali
dekhaa to yahin hai dhoondhaa to nahin hai
pal jo yeh jaanewala hai ho ho
aanewala pal jaanewala hai
ho sake to iss mein zindagi bitaa do
pal jo yeh jaanewala hai
ek baar waqt se lamhaa giraa kahin (2)
wahaan dastaan mili lamhaa kahin nahin
thodaa sa hansaa ke thodaa sa rulaa ke
pal yeh bhi jaanewala hai ho ho
aanewala pal jaanewala hai
ho sake to iss mein zindagi bitaa do
pal jo yeh jaanewala hai ho ho
aanewala pal jaanewala hai (2)
Yeh Safar Bahot Hai Kathin Magar
RD Burman music always has his special signature on it. This one is the same. You can tell it has that 1942 A Love Story flavor to it. I think it's one of the less famous songs of the film. I had not come across it until this year when I heard a couple of lines of it accidently and then I started hunting for it online and realized it's more than a decade old song. Adore the lyrics of Javed Akhtar as usual. The dude is way too talented and can pen the most heartfelt feelings. First time I heard a song of Shivaji Chattopadhyay. Will have to listen to his other songs to find out whether he is actually a good singer. I felt he could have done a better job in singing this one though. His voice when he sings the sheyr in the beginning sounds wee bit like to Jagjit Singh but definitely not later on. I enjoy listening to the song nevertheless.
dil na-ummeed to nahin, naakaam hi to hai
lambi hai gham ki shaam, magar shaam hi to hai
(yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar) (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
(yeh sitam ki raat hai dhalne ko
hai andhera gham ka pighalne ko) (2)
zaraa der iss mein lage agar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar
(nahin rehnewaali yeh mushkile
yeh hai agale mod pe manzile) (2)
meri baat ka tu yakeen kar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar
(kabhi dhoondh lega yeh caaravaan
woh nahin zameen nayaa aasmaan) (2)
jisse dhoondhti hai teri nazar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar
Tere Bina Zindagi...
There are a very few songs that actually touch you and make you think... about life. Here is one like that. This song has so many levels... the lyrics, music, situation, Sanjeev Kumar's voice and the emotions his words convey, the feelings that one feels listening to Suchitra Sen's voice, the unanswered questions, the unquestioned answers... everything about it touches your heart.
Her: बरसों बाद मैं घूमने निकली हूँ। ऐसा लगता है की वो किसी और सदी की बात थी।
Him: हम्... शायद उन दिनों की बात होगी जब ये इमारते अभी उजड़ी नही थी।
Her: हम्? पिछले किसी जनम की बात ही तो लगती है...
Him: एक काम करे, जब तक तुम यहाँ हो, रोज़ घर पे खाने के लिए तो आया ही करोगी, खाने के बाद घूमने निकल आया करेंगे। कम से कम ये इमारत कुछ दिनों के लिए तो बस जायेगी...
तुम्हारी शाल कहाँ है?
Her: हम्? हाँ हाँ भूल गई... उम उम ना ना...
Him: तुम नहीं बदलोगी... लो...
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी से कोई शिकवा तो नहीं,
शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी भी लेकिन जिन्दगी तो नहीं
जिन्दगी नहीं, जिन्दगी नहीं, जिन्दगी नही
तेरे
बिना जिन्दगी से शिकवा तो नहीं
(काश ऐसा हो तेरे क़दमों से चुन के मंज़िल चले
और कहीँ दूर कहीँ) (२)
तुम ग़र साथ हो मंजिलों कि कमी तो नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी से कोई शिकवा तो नहीं
शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं
Him: "सुनो आरती, यह जो फूलों कि बेले नज़र आती है ना, दरअसल यह बेले नहीं, अरबी में आयेती लिखी है, इससे दिन के वक़्त देखना चाहिऐ. बिल्कुल साफ नज़र आती है. दिन के वक़्त यह सारा पानी से भरा रहता है. दिन के वक़्त जब यह फुआरे..."
Her: "कहॉ अब आऊंगी मैं दिन में"
Him: "यह जो चांद है ना, इससे रात में देखना, यह दिन में नहीं निकलता"
Her: "यह तो रोज़ निकलता होगा"
Him: "हाँ लेकिन बीच में अमावस आ जाती है. वैसे तो अमावस पन्द्रेह दिन को होती है लेकिन इस बार बहुत लंबी रही..."
Her: "नौ बरस लम्बी थी ना?"
...song continues with...
(जीं में आता है तेरे दामन में सर छुपाके हम
रोते रहे, रोते रहे) (२)
तेरी भी आंखों में आंसुओ की नमी तो नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी से कोई शिकवा तो नहीं
शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी भी लेकिन जिन्दगी तो नहीं
जिन्दगी नहीं, जिन्दगी नहीं, जिन्दगी नहीं
(तुम जो केह्दो तो आज की रात चांद दुबेगा नहीं
रात को रोक लो) (२)
रात कि बात है और जिन्दगी बाक़ी तो नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी से कोई शिकवा तो नहीं
शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं, शिकवा नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी भी लेकिन जिन्दगी तो नहीं
जिन्दगी नहीं, जिन्दगी नहीं, जिन्दगी नहीं
तेरे बिना जिन्दगी से शिकवा तो नहीं
