I had completely missed this song while watching the film. While listening to other songs I came across this one and really enjoyed listening to it and watching it. What a beautiful story it is. I loved the film for the fact that I got so annoyed with Asrani character's behavior and felt so sorry for Amol Palekar's character. And it was so satisfying to see the latter get even later on. Just goes to say how well they acted, on direction of Basu Chatterjee of course. :)
This one is sung by Mukesh and beautiful music is by none other than Salil Chaudhary. Lyrics are by Yogesh. First time I heard of this lyricist.
(yeh din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne
dekho basanti basanti hone lage mere sapne) (2)
yeh din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne
(awesome music plays here!)
(sone jaisi ho rahi hai har subah meri
lage har saanjh ab gulaal se bhari) (2)
chalne lagi mehki hui pawan magan jhoom ke
aanchal teraa choom ke
yeh din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne
dekho basanti basanti hone lage mere sapne
yeh din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne
(wahaan mann baanwaraa aaj ud chalaa
jahaan par hai gagan salonaa saanwalaa) (2)
jaa ke wahin rakh de kahin man rango mein khol ke
sapne yeh anmol se
(yeh din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne
dekho basanti basanti hone lage mere sapne) (2)
yeh din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne
(sone jaisi ho rahi hai har subah meri

Dil mein kisi ke pyaar ka...
The goodness of 70s is going to prevail around here for a while. We've got the 70s week coming up!
I had only overheard this song until today... and when I listened to it, I realized what a wonderful song it was. Too bad they only have single stanza for Kishore Kumar's version, but it's delicious nevertheless! Both songs are beautiful... but one gives a philosophical romantic mood while the other playful romantic.
Leena C. looks gorgeous in a white maxi dress (how did they go out of style again?) in the female version of the song and Sharmila sensual in the male version of this rainy song. I wonder which one comes first in the story. In the male version, we also get a glimpse of a very handsome Ashok Kumar. It must feel so different to have close family members work with you... I was thinking that about Kishore Kumar singing, Leena Chandavarkar acting in the film along with Ashok Kumar...
Thanks to such marvelous singers, lovely work of music director and God knows how many more musicians along with the lyricist we get to enjoy double the goodness of this creation!
(dil mein kisi ke pyaar kaa jaltaa hua diyaa
seene mein dil ke saath dhadakta rahegaa yeh
dhadakta rahegaa yeh
woh naqsh kyaa huaa jo mitaaye se mit gayaa
woh dard kyaa huaa jo dabaaye se dab gayaa
dil mein kisi ke pyaar kaa jaltaa hua diyaa
ab woh karam kare ke sitam unkaa faislaa
hum ne to dil mein pyaar kaa sholaa jalaa liyaa
dil mein kisi ke pyaar kaa jaltaa hua diyaa

Aye Mere Dost Aye Mere Humdum
A song for today's the friendship day. This is the most emotional friendship song I've heard.
mujhe jab apni guzari zindagaani yaad aati hai
to bas ek meherbaan ki meherbaani yaad aati hai
(aye mere dost aye mere humdum
mere mohsin mere karam farma
woh mera gham tha ya khushi meri
har jagah toone mera saath diya) (2)
aye mere dost aye mere humdum
kaun tha tu kahan se aaya tha
aaj tak maine yeh nahin jaana
tu meri rooh tha magar maine
tere jaane ke baad pehchana
aye mere dost aye mere humdum
mere mohsin mere karam farma
woh mera gham tha ya khushi meri
har jagah toone mera saath diya
aye mere dost aye mere humdum
tu sudama bhi hai kanhaiya bhi
kanhaiya kanhaiya
tu sudama bhi hai kanhaiya bhi
tu bhikaari bhi aur daataa bhi
tere sau rang hai mere pyaare
tu hi pyaasa hai tu hi jharnaa bhi
aye mere dost aye mere humdum
mere mohsin mere karam farma
woh mera gham tha ya khushi meri
har jagah toone mera saath diya
aye mere dost aye mere humdum
tu meri bebasi ke aalam mein
jab kabhi mujh ko yaad aata hai
soch kar meherbaaniyaan teri
dil mera baith baith jaata hai
aakhari arz meri tujhse hai
har khataa meri dar guzar karna
woh ghadi aa rahi hai jab mujhko
is zamaane se hai safar karna
aye mere dost aye mere humdum (5)

Tere Bin Soone
If not the actual song itself, you've probably heard the beginning aalap of this song in a Lata Mangeshkar interview somewhere.
I didn't know of this song until recently but as soon as I did, I almost fell in love with the music and the slowness of it. Ashok Kumar looks almost different in that getup, and Asha Parekh as beautiful as ever. Music is quite slow and touches your heart. The singers have seemingly poured out their heart with their words. Do check it out. The video has an extra stanza than my audio track so I loved watching it as well.
Don't know what raag this is based on but I am almost certain it is based on one.
M: tere bin soone (2)
nain humaare
tere bin soone
baat takat gaye saanj sakhaare haaye
tere bin soone nain humaare
tere bin soone
ho
raat jo aaye dhal jaaye pyaasi (2)
din kaa hai dujaa naam udaasi
neendiyaan naa aaye (2)
ab mere dwaare
tere bin soone nain humaare
tere bin soone
ho
jag mein rahaa main jag se paraayaa (2)
saayaa bhi meraa mere paas na aayaa
hansne ke din bhi (2)
ro ke guzaare
tere bin soone nain humaare
tere bin soone
baat takat gaye saanj sakhaare haaye
tere bin soone
F: hmm hmm hmm
ho ho ho
oh andekhe oh anjaane (2)
chhup ke naa gaa yeh prem taraane
kaun hai tu mohe (2)
kuchh to bataa re
tere bin soone nayan humaare
tere bin soone
baat takat gaye saanj sakhaare
tere bin soone

Aye Husn Zaraa Jaag Tujhe
If one wants to know the definition of romantic song, this is the song.
I can't seem to get enough of these piano songs... I am on a roll...
Here Rafisahab's voice is to die for!!!!! I can't praise Naushad music any more, just don't have words.
(some awesome piano plays here; such beautiful direction to coordinate Husna's walking with the rhythm of piano tunes)
(wow! ultimate romance!)
(OMG! Ashok Kumar looks THE MOST handsome here)
(also, I just realized Ashok Kumar has such a fantastic voice)

Chalo Ek Baar Phir Se..
I'm getting hooked to these piano songs.
Classy song, classy music and classy actors - what else can one ask for?!
In the old days this used to be the style - the piano songs. They don't do that too much now. There are two benefits of having a piano song in a film.
First, the director didn't have to get our heroes to dance. For example, like Rajesh Khanna who apparently has two left feet. Don't believe me? Watch this video.
Secondly, the director would directly bypass the challenge of hiding our heroine's height, which, back in those days, was usually less than half the height of our heroes. Well almost! It's just fantastic how they do it. I mean Sunil Dutt is close to some six and a half feet tall and Mala Sinha not even close to five, and to show them on one screen standing next to each other as lovers is just not a piece of cake. So the piano songs come in quite handy. And we as audience who loves quality songs gets to actually look at the faces instead of the workout videos.
Just one glance at those faces of Ashok Kumar, Mala Sinha and Sunil Dutt and it just makes me want to keep looking at them over and over again.
(wow! what awesome piano plays here) Ravi's music rocks!
(notice the background music here while he sings, it's totally goosebumpy!)
