The collection on my ipod finally got replenished with new songs. Not literally new, but new for me. This is one of those gems that I'm totally hooked to since this evening. Wow! what a marvelous and romantic song.. it's been a while since I listened to one of these. It reminds me of tumhara chahnewala khuda ki duniya mein, may be because it's by the same singer and same musician and same lyricist and picturized on the same actor? whoa.. it's like they tried to recreate magic and it worked. It's the other way around actually. This one came first and then the song from Kahin Din Kahin Raat.
Audiowise both songs are super romantic and make me want to listen to them over and over again, but I do prefer watching b/w clip with the dimpled, very young, and extremely expressive Sharmila in it (I think I will forgive her for not wearing her signature blouse with a knot in the back ;)) than some random actress. Moreover, I am partial to the filming that takes you on a tour of facial features of actors.
Mahendra Kapoor is wonderful in this one and now I have one more song of his to add to my favorites collection. Can't praise the music enough and lyrics as always are absolutely crazy, but likable or so I find. :)
(meraa pyaar woh hai ke mar kar bhi tum ko
judaa apni baahon se hone na degaa) (2)
mili mujhko jannat to jannat ke badle
khudaa se meri jaan tumhe maang legaa
meraa pyaar woh hai
(what out of this world music plays here!)
zamaana to karvat badalta rahegaa
naye zindagi ke taraane banenge
mitegi na lekin mohabbat hamaari
mitaane ke sau sau bahaane banenge
haqeeqat hameshaa haqeeqat rahegi
kabhi bhi na is kaa fasaana banegaa
meraa pyaar woh hai ke mar kar bhi tum ko
judaa apni baahon se hone na degaa
meraa pyaar woh hai
(absolutely love the flute playing here)
tumhe chheen le meri baahon se koyi
meraa pyaar yoon besahaara nahin hai
tumhaara badan chaandani aa ke chhu le
mere dil ko yeh bhi ganwaara nahin hai
koyi bhi agar tum se aa ke mile to
tumhaari kasam hai meraa dil jalegaa
meraa pyaar woh hai ke mar kar bhi tum ko
judaa apni baahon se hone na degaa
mili mujhko jannat to jannat ke badle
khudaa se meri jaan tumhe maang legaa
meraa pyaar woh hai

Chhod Kar Tere Pyaar Ka Daaman
Aah, it's been ages since I listened to songs like these... what a fun fun song. Helen looks gorgeous and what beautiful voices. Lyrics and music are totally out of this world!!! It's the kind of song that you hum all day and still want to keep humming....
M: chhod kar tere pyaar ka daaman (2)
yeh bataa de ke hum kidhar jaayen
F: hum ko dar hai ke teri baahon mein (2)
hum khushi se na aaj mar jaaye
F: mil gaye aaj qaafile dil ke
hum khade hai qareeb manzil ke
muskura kar jo tum ne dekh liye
mit gaye hans ke sab gile dil ke
M: kitni pyaari hai yeh haseen ghadiyaan
in se keh do yahin thaher jaaye
F: hum ko dar hai ke teri baahon mein
hum khushi se na aaj mar jaaye
M: tere qadamon pe zindagi rakh doon
apni aankhon ki roshani rakh doon
tu agar khush ho main tere dil mein
apne dil ki har ik khushi rakh doon
F: mere humdam meri khushi yeh hai
tu nazar aaye hum jidhar jaaye
M: chhod kar tere pyaar ka daaman
yeh bataa de ke hum kidhar jaayen
F: dekh kar pyaar in nigaahon mein
deep se jal gaye hai raahon mein
tum se milte na hum to yeh duniya
doob jaati hamaari aanhon mein
M: apni aahon se aaj yeh keh do
ab na hothon pe umr bhar aaye
chhod kar tere pyaar ka daaman
yeh bataa de ke hum kidhar jaayen
F: hum ko dar hai ke teri baahon mein
hum khushi se na aaj mar jaaye

Jhoomti Bahaaron Kaa Samaa
One of the songs that I never knew I knew by heart. I guess I must have listened to it when it came out in the late 80s. I remembered this song while I was listening to the music of this centre shock chewing gum ad which sounded so much similar, but quite different too. Enjoy listening to it!
ps. Would love to watch the video of this. I've never watched it. I'm guessing they're on a motorbike or something?
Both: (jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
pyaar ki umange hai jawaan
hothon pe taraane chale hai do deewaane
pyaar ki basaane duniyaa) (2)
jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
M: geet koi pyaar ka sunaati hai hawaa
aaj mere sang sang gaati hai hawaa
F: geet koi pyaar ka sunaati hai hawaa
aaj mere sang sang gaati hai hawaa
Both: dil se dil mile phool se khile
muskuraati hai waadiyaan
jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
pyaar ki umange hai jawaan
hothon pe taraane chale hai do deewaane
pyaar ki basaane duniyaa
jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
M: aa aa aa
F: aa aa aa
M: o o o
F: aa aa aa
F: dil se mile dil to ikraar ho gayaa
aaj hume zindagi se pyaar ho gayaa aa
M: dil se mile dil to ikraar ho gayaa
aaj hume zindagi se pyaar ho gayaa
Both: dil ne jo kahi dil ne jo suni
khatm na ho woh daastaan
jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
pyaar ki umange hai jawaan
hothon pe taraane chale hai do deewaane
pyaar ki basaane duniyaa
jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
Both: aa chale udhar le chale jidhar
dhadkanon ka yeh caravaan
jhoomti bahaaron kaa samaa
pyaar ki umange hai jawaan
hothon pe taraane chale hai do deewaane
pyaar ki basaane duniyaa

Chalo Ek Baar Phir Se..
I'm getting hooked to these piano songs.
Classy song, classy music and classy actors - what else can one ask for?!
In the old days this used to be the style - the piano songs. They don't do that too much now. There are two benefits of having a piano song in a film.
First, the director didn't have to get our heroes to dance. For example, like Rajesh Khanna who apparently has two left feet. Don't believe me? Watch this video.
Secondly, the director would directly bypass the challenge of hiding our heroine's height, which, back in those days, was usually less than half the height of our heroes. Well almost! It's just fantastic how they do it. I mean Sunil Dutt is close to some six and a half feet tall and Mala Sinha not even close to five, and to show them on one screen standing next to each other as lovers is just not a piece of cake. So the piano songs come in quite handy. And we as audience who loves quality songs gets to actually look at the faces instead of the workout videos.
Just one glance at those faces of Ashok Kumar, Mala Sinha and Sunil Dutt and it just makes me want to keep looking at them over and over again.
(wow! what awesome piano plays here) Ravi's music rocks!
(notice the background music here while he sings, it's totally goosebumpy!)
(It's always funny to watch the picturization of these actors playing the musical instruments! What is Sunil Dutt playing there? :D)
Film: Gumraah (1963)
Singer: Mahendra Kapoor

Lyrics: Sahir Ludhiyanvi

Tumhara Chahnewala Khuda Ki Duniya Mein
Lyricists write all kinds of lyrics. You name it and they write it. Speaking of unrealistic lyrics, this one would take the cake. Every time I listen to this song, I just sit and wonder "what was SHB thinking?" while writing these lyrics. All I can do is smile listening to this song. The thought in his words is very highly respectable but hardly realistic. :) One of the very few songs of Mahendra Kapoor that I like. Very beautifully sitar plays throughout the song. I am sure this song is based on some raaga, if not entirely then partially. OPN truely rocks!!
Male: (tumhaaraa chaahanewaalaa khudaa ki duniyaan mein
mere sivaa bhi koyi aaur ho khudaa naa kare) (2)
tumhaaraa chaahanewaalaa khudaa ki duniyaan mein
yeh baat kaise ganwaaraa karegaa dil meraa
tumhaaraa zikr kisi aur ki zabaan pe ho
tumhaare husn ki taareef aainaa bhi kare
to main tumhaari kasam hai ke tod doon ussko
tumhaare pyaar tumhaari adaa kaa deewaanaa
mere sivaa bhi koyi aur ho khudaa naa kare
tumhaaraa chaahanewaalaa khudaa ki duniyaan mein
(the sitar playing here is to die for!)
kisi kaa pyaar dobaaraa kahin talaash karo
jhukaa ke sir ko kisi ajnabi ke shaanon par
tum apne gham kaa sahaaraa kahin talaash karo
kareeb dil ke tumhaare kisi bhi haalat mein
mere sivaa bhi koyi aur ho khudaa naa kare
tumhaaraa chaahanewaalaa khudaa ki duniyaan mein
Female: tumhaare dil ko kabhi mujh se koyi thes lage
mujhe yakin hai aisa kabhi nahin hogaa
mujhe wafaaon pe apni badaa bharosa hai
tumhaaraa pyaar hi de jaaye naa kahin dhokhaa
dua yeh hai ke tumhaaraa khudaa ki duniyaan mein
mere sivaa bhi koyi aur ho khudaa n kare
