Tum hi hamaari ho manzil my love

Some songs never get old. This one is an example of that. I don't remember listening to the actual song with so much enthusiasm as I remember listening to my elder cousin brother singing it. And also, bin tere sanam was more famous than this so I sort of just bypassed this when it came to listening to the actual words and music of this one. Today, big brother shared the new picturized version of it and it was an instant love! The song reminds me of my other favorite songs from the early 90s, like jaati hoon main, kaahe sataaye kaahe ko rulaaye, and other songs of Jaan Tere Naam. I'm totally going crazy for this one now. Love Majrooh sahab's penned words and Jatin-Lalit's musical magic. I think even the singers do a good job. Listening to both the versions of the song made me realize how much technology and audio editing process have changed in last 20 years. Amazing!

This time in India, I got to listen to so many of my favorite songs from the 90s that I almost felt like I was taken back to my teenage years. Old wine in new bottle

Waadiyaan mera daaman...

So actually it happens so that in Hulchul, it is not when Kishanbhaiya/Murari arrives at Gangapur this Rafi song plays. It is when Jai and Lucky get off the bus (at 1:30:00 in this clip) this song plays. Then the song playing when Kishanbhaiya arrives (at 1:33:00 min) is different and quite inaudible so it's hard to listen.

Coming back to our song now.. wow! what a fabulous song... and it's all thanks to the RDB music & the way Rafi sahab has sung this song. Nothing else adds to it. The dhun is so catchy and echoing music out of this world! I guess this must be my favorite song too because it also falls under the most-absentmindedly-hummed category.

Sanjay Khan and Nanda are just about okay in the gorgeous melodious male solo version of the song seems a bit haunting at times. The softer romantic female version, which could actually be a duet, is picturized on Nanda and Marathi actor Kashinath Ghanekar. Note how both versions have completely different music.

Sajhati hai yoon hi mehfil...

Just yesterday, I remembered this song out of no where. I think listening to shokh nazar on ki bijaliyaan on Atul's blog a couple of days back might have something to do with it. Both the songs fall under the same category - Asha solos and not the most famous songs from their corresponding films. I think there's more songs that fall under this category and for some reason, I like them a lot and truly enjoy listening to them.

This is a ghazal-like slow song on a piano and a completely expressionless Priya. Even Raj Kumar and Rajesh Khanna can't help it but Vinod Khanna does that in just a few seconds he's on screen and oh-so-gorgeous Hema Malini. I don't remember whether I've watched the film or not, but both of these make me want to. RDB music, specially tabla are quite enjoyable, along with the beautiful lyrics penned by Majroohji.

Bandaa parvar thaam lo jigar...

For me, if one movie that can come close to Golmaal, it would be Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon. Like Golmaal, I must have watched it more than 20 times. It is one of those movies that falls under the "most-entertaining" category. That could be a personal thing too as I truly enjoy the music, songs, story, acting along with the silliness and everything else about the movie.

It's so much fun to watch these songs over and over again. Jeeps and the tall trees remind me of another OPN-Majrooh-Rafi song pukaarta chala hoon main. The best part about this one are the music, lyrics and singer's voice along with all the horse-carriges/taanga and Popatlaal's comedy. And for some reason, everytime I hear the taanga music in a song, it makes me feel that it must be OPN song.

Joy Mukherjee becomes a pathan to disguise himself in this one and Asha Parekh as her beautiful bossy self with a cute hat. It's a lot of fun to watch them. They had pretty good onscreen chemistry. As for the location, I wonder what place this is. Mona's friend mentions Barahmulla right before the song but I am not sure whether that's where it is.

I don't know the definition of romance but I'd say it'd be something that this one describes, or makes one feel. The music gives me goosebumps. What is the instrument that plays tick-tocking sound in between the stanzas.. I wonder It sounds like how those little pieces of flat stones/tiles that the boys selling water on trains would use to make noise or the beggers who used them to play music while they sang on trains.

She walking home with sabzi in basket... and him hopping around and being playful chasing her. Notice how he touches her shoulder while singing "door ki chaahat" and then later her nose after "apni taqdeer banaa loon" and she smiling away with shyness with her long tresses covering her face... waah!

OMG! What sweet voice Suman Kalyanpur has. And Rafi sahab's voice so full of mischief and so unique to match Shashi Kapoor's voice. All of these things with the lyrics make it one of my favorite romantic melodies.

Got to listen to a clip of this song while watching DDLJ and I just couldn't stop listening to it. And it took less than few moments to find it on youtube and listen to it. :) It truly is blessing.

What a beautiful song! K. L. Saigal has such a sweet voice. It sucks he left us so early.

It's funny, in the evening I was listening to "dil hai pyaare zaraa dekh to le" from Guddu (1995) and that also has Naushad's music and this one from 1946 has got the same music director. It's amazing!

Kya Jaanoo Sajan

When you think haunting melodies the only name that comes to mind is Lata Mangeshkar. No one can even come close. It's like only she can sing those songs and no one else. This one became my favorite the instance I heard it, back in 2002. It appears so that they included this same song in Kavita Krishnamurthy's voice in a movie called Dil Vil Pyar Vyar (2002) and so when I heard it in her voice, I searched for it and eventually found out the original is by none other than our very own Lataji.

The original picturization is quite nice too, which I found out only a couple of months back. :)

I think here the combination of all three of these - singer's voice, the lyrics and the music make the song haunting, and not just the music.

I've always been a fan of Anu Malik's music, regardless of how cheesy it gets. I enjoy listening to it. This one I just discovered recently. Can't believe I hadn't listened to it all these years despite of being such a huge fan of this film. It's one of those cute romantic melodies that you just feel like listening to when you get bored of listening to all those famous, evergreen, hit songs. And yet again I fall in love with Kavita K's voice!

Pukaarta chalaa hoon main...

Does it ever happen to you that when you hear a song or a melody and it reminds you of some person? any person? But just that song has an ability to take you back in time and that person's face just comes up in your mind.

Years ago, when as a kid I used to go with my dad to musical functions organized by his company, Elecon, or his group, and someone from his group or department or organization would sing a song. It happened so often that I'd hear a song for the first time in my life at such a music party and subconsciously become a fan of that song instantly along with a fan of that person who sang the song!

Mr. Bagga used to be one of those people. I still am a huge fan of him. This was his signature song, and it probably still is. :) Almost all the musical functions that I attended, he was there and this is the song he'd sing and with such an enthusiasm that I just started calling the song his. Eventually, as I was growing up, I realized it was from a movie and actually sung by one of my favorite singers Mohd. Rafi. But the song still remains Mr. Bagga's signature song for me, even today...

Mujhe Pyaar Mein Tum

The soundtrack of Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon has been my all time favorite. I get tired neither of listening to these songs nor watching the movie. This is one song that's mostly unheard from the movie - a solo by Asha Bhosle. Song isn't too long either but it's beautiful. Even the picturization is very beautiful... Asha Parekh singing as she sits in a boat floating in a lake and Joy Mujherjee walking on side walk that's right next to the lake. The expressions of the actors tell a lot more of the story with the words beautifully penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Another hit OPN-AB combo! Fantastic!
