Dil mein tujhe bithaa ke...

Just two days back it was Lata Mangeshkar's 81st birthday. Listening to her songs while driving back from work made me think what would have happened to HFM if it weren't for her. Impossible. That's the word that came to my mind. No one can be like her. So I've been thinking of my most favorite songs of hers. This being one of them, which I have just discovered recently and am completely addicted to it. As for the rest of them, I am thinking to just make a post but I need to find out what criteria to use to narrow down my list to a few than a several hundred.

This immortal melody is penned and composed by Ravindra Jain. This one is based on raag bhimpalasi. No wonder it sounds so melodious.

Long live Lata Mangeshkar!! God bless you, Lataji.

(dil mein tujhe bithaa ke kar loongi main band aankhen
poojaa karoongi teri ho ke rahoongi teri) (2)

main hi main dekhoon tujhe piyaa aur na dekhe koyi (2)
ek pal bhi yeh soch rahe na kis vidhi milna hoi
sabse tujhe bachaa ke kar loongi main band aankhen
poojaa karoongi teri ho ke rahoongi teri

na koyi bandhan jagat kaa koyi pehraa na deewaar (2)
koyi na jaane do deewaane ji bhar kar le pyaar
kadmon mein tere aa ke kar loongi main band aankhen
poojaa karoongi teri ho ke rahoongi teri

(what fabulous sitaar plays here)

teraa hi mukh dekh ke piyaa raat ko main so jaau (2)
bhor bhayi jab aankh khule to tere hi darshan paau
tujhko gale lagaa ke kar loongi main band aankhen
poojaa karoongi teri ho ke rahoongi teri

dil mein tujhe bithaa ke kar loongi main band aankhen
poojaa karoongi teri ho ke rahoongi teri

Excellent!!! Kinda fits exactly in a series of songs I'd associate with you. I started the series with the not-too-well-known recent song called "Mera mann mera mann tujhko bulaye pyaar se". This one is the 2nd. Let more keep coming.

Java, hahaha.. that's flattering, thanks. I think the talent that we saw in that era is non-matched and it's thanks to that we have these fabulous songs. Will surely try to listen to more of these. It's so much fun discovering these gems.
