Chale jaana zaraa thehro

As I was casually humming tumhaare gin guzaare hai, Papu said it sounded so much like this song that I'd never heard of. He knew of the song and film so it was really easy to search for it and listen to it. What a lovely song it is... I haven't listened to much of Sharda's singing except for her "titli udi", that too I didn't really know her name, so it was a pleasant surprise to find this duet of hers with Mukesh.

Absolutely love SJ music and adore the fact that the song has four complete stanzas... mazaa aa gayaa! I'm also hooked on the other song from same film with the same singers "duniya ki sair kar lo". It'd be awesome to find out what raag this song is based on.

It's so much fun to see different parts of world in these songs. In this one, I think it's Niagara Falls.

M: (chale jaana zaraa thehro kisi kaa dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana) (2)

F: chale jaana zaraa thehro kisi kaa dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana chale jaana

M: abhi aaye ho baitho to yeh mausam bhi suhaana hai (2)
abhi to haal-e-dil tum ko nigaahon se sunaana hai
nazar pyaasi yeh dil pyaasa kisi ka dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana chale jaana

F: haseen jharanon ke saaye mein akelaa chhod jaate ho (2)
hamaare dil ko aakhir kis liye tum tod jaate ho
zaraa dum lo kahaa maano kisi ka dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana chale jaana

M: hamaari jaan ho tum bhi agar chal di to phir kyaa hai (2)
tumhaare bin bahaaron mein khushi kyaa hai mazaa kyaa hai (the tunes here remind me of "tum se pyaar hai" of yeh meraa prempatra)
o jaan-e-man na jaao tum kisi ka dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana chale jaana

F: kasam khaati hoon main apni tumhe ab na sataaungi (2)
tumhaari baat jo bhi ho wohi main maan jaaungi
bhari aankhen ruki saansen? kisi ka dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana
chale jaana zaraa thehro kisi kaa dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana

M: chale jaana zaraa thehro kisi kaa dum nikaltaa hai
yeh manzar dekh kar jaana chale jaana

Duniya banaane waale... pyaar ki aag mein...

While listening to the songs of film Ziddi, I discovered so many songs that I had missed out on watching the film years ago. This being one of them. It sounds and looks comedy, but has very deep feelings about a broken hearted person. Mannada gives voice to Mehmood once again to create this magical number. I still can't believe I missed this song.

At about 3:30 mins in the song, you hear the famous music that has been played in many many songs like nazare mili dil dhadaka, dole dole dil dole bole dil bole, and of course from Come September, and many more.

duniya banaane waale sun se meri kahaani
roye meri mohabbat
tapde (2) meri jawaani

pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gayaa (2)
jaane phir kyon jalaati hai duniya mujhe (2)
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gayaa

main to rotaa phiru baadalon ki tarhaa
thandi aahen bharu paagalon ki tarhaa
main to rotaa phiru baadalon ki tarhaa
arre main to ho ho ho rotaa phiru
main to rotaa phiru baadalon ki tarhaa
thandi aahen bharu paagalon ki tarhaa
jaane phir kyon, phir kyon
jaane phir kyon rulaati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gayaa (2)

baat jab main karoon mooh se nikle dhuaa
jal gayaa (2) mere dil kaa jahaan
baat jab main karoon mooh se nikle dhuaa (2)
arre jal gayaa
jal gayaa mere dil ka jahaan
jaane phir kyon, phir kyon
jaane phir kyon sataati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gayaa (2)

ishq mujhko nachaataa rahaa hai sadaa
kyaa kyaa sapne dikhaata rahaa hai sadaa
ishq mujhko nachaataa rahaa hai sadaa (2)
kyaa kyaa sapne dikhaata rahaa hai sadaa
jaane phir kyon, phir kyon
jaane phir kyon nachaati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gayaa (2)
tan badan jal gaya (2)

Yeh meri zindagi ek paagal hawaa

What an upbeat number! but a sad one at that. I couldn't believe my ears when I first listened to it. Completely contradicting music and lyrics, it's a very beautiful song though, with Lataji's lovely voice and Asha Parekh's dancing/acting just add to the beauty. The song just gets stuck in your head after listening to it for a few times.

yeh kaun jaane main kya hoon
sun na chaahte ho
suno
main ek chaand hoon
jis ke maathe pe ek daag hai
mera dil jalta hua chiraag hai

(yeh meri zindagi ek paagal hawaa
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin) (2)
yeh meri zindagi

jeevan meraa jyoti pyaar ki
har dil se mel chaahat ka khel
duniya se pyaar karti
meri mehfil sab ki raahen
chalne mein teer itni shaheer
jaise gagan ki laali
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin
yeh meri zindagi ek paagal hawaa
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin
yeh meri zindagi

meri duniya dhokhe suhaane
waade haseen kaagaz ke phool
khusboo se door hai
hoon to saahil lekin toofaan
manzil na koyi mere khayaal
masti mein choor hai
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin
yeh meri zindagi ek paagal hawaa
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin
yeh meri zindagi

mera yeh dil zakhmon ka gulshan
aahen bharu na shikve karu
main aansoo ke jaam pee loon
gham ko bhulaau khush ho ke gaau
machle jo dard chehra ho zard
deewaani ban ke jee loon
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin
(yeh meri zindagi ek paagal hawaa
aaj idhar kal udhar main kisi ki nahin) (2)
yeh meri zindagi

Ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum.. allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re..

One of the songs I grew up listening to never knowing a thing about music or movies. It's amazing how childhood memories stay with us... forever. :) Love love love this song. Now I know why, it's because it has been made my Hasrat Jaipuri, Shankar Jaikishan and Lata-Mukesh combo.
Hope you like it too.

M: ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum saari raat jaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re

F: dil mein teri ulfat ke bandhne lage dhaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re

M: ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum

(kyaa kahoon kuchh kahaa nahin jaaye
bin kahe bhi rahaa nahin jaaye) (2)
raat bhar karvat main badloon
dard dil kaa sahaa nahin jaaye
neend meri aankhon se door door bhaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re

F: dil mein teri ulfat ke bandhne lage dhaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re

M: ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum

F: (dil mein jaagi preet ki jwaala
jab se maine hosh sambhaala) (2)
main hoon tere pyaar ki seemaa
tu meraa raahi matwaala
mere man ki beena mein tere saaz jaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re

M: ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum saari raat jaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re
ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum

(toone jab jab aankh milaayi
dil se ek awaaz yeh aayi) (2)
chal ke ab taaron mein rahenge
pyaar ke hum do saudaayi
mujhko teri surat bhi chandni raat lage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re

Both: ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum saari raat jaage
allaah jaane kyaa hogaa re
ho maulaa jaane kyaa hogaa re
ibtadaa-e-ishq mein hum

Bedardi baalma tujhko...

Been listening to songs that fall under "Lata sings for Sadhana" category. This one is my favorite for it's music and lyrics and well, everything. Hasrat Jaipuri is the man! What marvelous stuff he has written... my God! it's mind-blowing!

aa aa aa...
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai (2)
barastaa hai jo aankhon se woh saawan yaad kartaa hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai

kabhi hum saath guzare jin sajili rehguzaaro se
fizaa ke bhes mein girte hai ab patte chanaaro se
yeh raahen yaad karti hai yeh gulshan yaad karta hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai
barastaa hai jo aankhon se woh saawan yaad kartaa hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai

koyi jhonkha hawaa ka jab meraa aanchal udaata hai
gumaan hotaa hai jaise tu mera daaman hilaata hai
kabhi chooma tha jo toone woh daaman yaad karta hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai
barastaa hai jo aankhon se woh saawan yaad kartaa hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai

(what fantastic haunting music plays here!!)

wohi hai jheel ke mandar woh hi kirno ki barsaate
jahaan hum tum kiya karte the pehro pyaar ki baatein
tujhe is jheel ka khaamosh darpan yaad kartaa hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai
barastaa hai jo aankhon se woh saawan yaad kartaa hai
bedardi baalma tujhko mera man yaad kartaa hai

Tum Mujhe Yoon Bhula Na Paaoge

It is Rafi sahab's 85th birthday tomorrow. This song of his in his memory... wish he was still with us.

May he find peace wherever he is.

The best singer of HFM!

Male version:

tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gungunaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
ho tum mujhe yoon

(woh bahaaren woh chaandani raaten
jab khayaalon mein mujhko laaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
ho tum mujhe yoon

(mere haathon mein teraa chehra tha
jaise koyi gulaab hota hai) (2)
aur sahaara liya tha baahon ka
woh samaa kis taraah bhulaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
ho tum mujhe yoon

(mujhko dekhe bina qaraar na tha
ek aisa bhi daur guzraa hai) (2)
jhooth maano to puchh lo dil se
main kahoonga to rooth jaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge

Female version:

tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gungunaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

(beeti baaton ka kuchh khayaal karo
kuchh to bolo kuchh hum se baat karo) (2)
raaz-e-dil main tumhe bataa doongi
main tumhaari hoon maan jaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

(meri khaamoshiyon ko samjho tum
zindagi yaad mein guzaari hai) (2)
main miti hoon tumhaari chaahat mein
aur kitna mujhe mitaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

(dil hi dil mein tum hi se pyaar kiya
apne jeevan ko bhi nisaar kiya) (2)
kaun tadapaa tumhaari raahon mein
jab yeh sochoge jaan jaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gungunaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

Aaja Sanam Madhur Chaandni Mein Hum

Evergreen! That's the category of this one. The song still sounds brand new after more than half a century and people can still relate to it.

Again, one of those first few songs I listened to as kid and have ever lasting memories attached with it - the old cassette player with loose plug that needed extra support to stay in the plug socket and the tape lid that needed something heavy to be placed on top so the two little groovy holes on tape actually fit into the two revolving screw-like knobs in the player. It was an old family tape player that just sat around and I got to play it around as no one used it. All I had back then was a couple of dusty audio tapes with scratched labels and no clue what was in them. I was just fascinated with the whole mechanism of switches and tape and the music that came out of it... it is only now that I actually realize that it was because of Lataji's and Mannada's lovely voices and SJ's music that did the trick. I had no clue about what the lyrics meant... I still remember thinking that lyricist Shailendra was talking about the garment "lungi" when he wrote "dam bhar jo udhar mooh phere..." :P How silly I was! This one took me back to those childhood days.

I can't stand Raj Kapoor and totally adore Nargis, but still think they made a great pair on silver screen. Hasrat Jaipuri's lyrics just get better and better as I discover/realize how good his work has been.

F: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

M: bheegi bheegi raat mein dil ka daaman thaam le
khoyi khoyi zindagi har dum tera naam le

F: (chaand ki behki nazar keh rahi hai pyaar kar
zindagi hai ek safar kaun jaane kal kidhar) (2)

M: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

F: kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

M: dil yeh chaahe aaj to baadal ban ud jaau main

F: (chaand ka dola saje dhoom taaron mein mache
jhoom ke duniya kahe pyaar mein do dil mile) (2)

Both: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

F: kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

Mohabbat Aisi Dhadkan Hai

Does it happen with you that you hear a song somewhere that you've never listened to before and then it just stays in your memory until you actually make an attempt to listen to it? This is one of those songs. I have no idea where I heard it first but it just got imprinted in memory... until today. One of the oldies by Lata ji where she sounds so different than her usual self. I guess this was the time when singers like Shamshad Begum ruled the HFM and everyone tried to be like that. I do like her as well but just something I noticed that how Lata ji changed her style of singing with time and I am glad she did.

Yet again I become a fan of Hasrat ji's lyrics, they're so beautiful and same with C. Ramchandra's music. Lovely song that is created by the hard work of all of these artists and many more behind the screen.

is intazaar-e-shauq ko jalvo ki aas hai
ek shamma jal rahi hai so aisi udaas hai

mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samjhaayi nahin jaati (2)
zubaan par dil ki bechaini
kabhi laayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

chale aao chale aao taqaaza hai nigaahon ka (2)
taqaaza hai nigaahon ka
kisi ki aarzoo aise
to thukaraayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samajhaai nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

mere dil ne bichhaaye hai sajde aaj raahon mein (2)
sajde aaj raahon mein
jo haalat aashiqi ki hai
woh batlaayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samjhaayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

Mere Sapnon Ki Raani Tum Nahin Ho

At first it may seem like the "mere sapnon ki raani" song of Aradhana but it's not. It's a Rafi solo from film Jawaan Mohabbat starring Shammi Kapoor. This is one of my latest favorites. What a song! I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the songs of this film; yup, they're mostly Rafi songs. :D I'm surprised I had not heard songs from this movie until just last week. Such a shame!

Til I find the video of this song, enjoy the beautiful lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri. Be warned about the MIO link for audio of this song though.

M: mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)

mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)

woh hai seedhi saadi bholi bhaali
hirni jaisi aankhon waali
haye mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)

(jo us mein adaa hai kisi mein nahin
jo us mein hayaa hai kisi mein nahin) (2)
mujhe meri jaan-e-wafaa chaahiye
mujhe to wohi dilrubaa chaahiye
mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)
woh hai seedhi saadi bholi bhaali
hirni jaisi aankhon waali
haye mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)

(agar muskuraa de woh jaan-e-bahaar
to barsaa kare aasmaanon se pyaar) (2)
agar naa?? aaye woh naazneen
to ho jaaye duniya mukkmal haseen
mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)
woh hai seedhi saadi bholi bhaali
hirni jaisi aankhon waali
haye mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)

ho mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)
woh hai seedhi saadi bholi bhaali
hirni jaisi aankhon waali
haye mere sapnon ki raani
tum nahin ho (3)

(ho
mil gayi (6)
mere sapnon ki raani mujhko mil gayi mil gayi) (2)

F: (ho
khul gayi (6)
tum mile to meri kismat khul gayi khul gayi) (2)

M: (dil mera deewana tha bin tere veerana tha
tere dum se baat bani warna ek afsana tha) (2)

ho
dhal gayi (6)
naagin jaisi kaali raina dhal gayi dhal gayi

F: ho
khul gayi (6)
tum mile to meri kismat khul gayi khul gayi

Tum To Pyaar Ho

Heard this one only yesterday for the first time. What a beautiful duet!

Thanks to google I was able to find what raag the song is based on.

F: aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
tum to

tum to pyaar ho
mujhe tum se pyaaraa aur naa koi
tum to pyaar ho sajnaa

M: tum to pyaar ho sajni
tum to pyaar ho
mujhe tum se pyaaraa aur naa koi
tum to pyaar ho

(chorus)

F: aa aa aa aa
kitna hai pyaar hum se itna bataa do

(chorus)

M: ambar pe taare jitne itna samajh lo
F: sach? meri kasam?
M: teri kasam teri yaad mujhe loote
F: kasame to khaanewaale hote hai jhoothhe
chalo jaao hato jaao dil kaa daaman chhodo
M: tum to pyaar ho sajni
tum to pyaar ho
mujhe tum se pyaaraa aur naa koi
tum to pyaar ho

(chorus)

M: o ho ho ho ho ho
aa ke naa jaaye kabhi aisi bahaar ho
F: tum bhi humaare liye jeevan singaar ho
M: sach? meri kasam?
F: teri kasam tu hai tu aankh ke til me
M: tum bhi chhoopi ho mere shishaa-e-dil mein
o mere humdum
mere humdum
meri baat to maano
F: tum to pyaar ho sajnaa
tum to pyaar ho
mujhe tum se pyaaraa aur naa koi
M: tum to pyaar ho sajni

Badan Pe Sitaare Lapete Hue

Animal charm at it's best!! I believe only Shammi Kapoor can pull this one off, no one, I repeat, no one in Bollywood has an ability to act like this and still look respectful, handsome, charming, adorable yet romantic.

The very first time I heard this one was when I was probably 8 or so. It was an annual function at a college. Our family friend's son used to live in dorms and attended college in town and visited us often as he didn't have any family near by. He invited the whole family to attend the annual day at his college. Since that day, I longed for attending college, not for anything but just those annual days. *sigh* they're just so much fun. That was probably the only one I have ever attended in my entire life and a most memorable one at that. I used to think Vyjayantimala looked like a princess in that red saari and adored her immensely back then, but she still looks great here; at the same time, I think she has looked better.

badan pe sitaare lapete hue
o jaane tamanna kidhar jaa rahi ho
zaraa paas aao to chain aa jaaye (2)

badan pe sitaare lapete hue
o jaane tamanna kidhar jaa rahi ho
zaraa paas aao to chain aa jaaye (2)

hum hi jab naa honge to aye dilrubaa
kise dekhkar haaye sharmaaogi
naa dekhogi phir tum kabhi aainaa
hamaare binaa roz ghabraaogi
badan pe sitaare lapete hue
o jaane tamanna kidhar jaa rahi ho
zaraa paas aao to chain aa jaaye (2)

hai banane sanvarne kaa jab hi mazaa
koi dekhne waalaa aashiq to ho
nahin to ye jalwe hai bujhte diye
koi mitne waalaa ek aashiq to ho
badan pe sitaare lapete hue
o jaane tamanna kidhar jaa rahi ho
zaraa paas aao to chain aa jaaye (2)

mohabbat ki yeh intehaa ho gayi
ki masti mein tumko khudaa keh gayaa
zamaanaa yeh insaaf kartaa rahe
buraa keh gayaa yaa bhalaa keh gayaa
badan pe sitaare lapete hue
o jaane tamanna kidhar jaa rahi ho
zaraa paas aao to chain aa jaaye (2)

badan pe sitaare lapete hue
o jaane tamanna kidhar jaa rahi ho

Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye Humdum...

While I was listening to main tere pyaar ka... I stumbled upon this lovely piano number from Love in Tokyo. It's been quite a few years since I watched this movie so I had forgotten about this song completely.

It was great fun watching the song and of course the eyelids-batting wide-hipped Asha Parekh looking stunning in that killer-red saari and glittery look!! and Joy Mukherjee soooooo handsome and quite sane! (You should watch this pair in "Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon" - a complete entertainment package!) And Pran just looks fabulous, what a personality! which again brings me back to this trio in PWDLH but that's whole another topic and I would rather make another post for that.

Until then... enjoy the SJ, LM and HJ magic!

(mujhe tum mil gaye humdum sahaaraa ho to aisa ho
jidhar dekhoo udhar tum ho nazaara ho to aisa ho) (2)
mujhe tum mil gaye humdum

kisi kaa chaand saa chehraa nazar se choom leti hoon (2)
khushi ki intahaa yeh hai nashe mein zoom leti hoon
nashe mein zoom leti hoon
hui takadeer bhi roshan sitaaraa ho to aisa ho
jidhar dekhoo udhar tum ho nazaara ho to aisa ho
mujhe tum mil gaye humdum

meri aankhon mein aansoo hai magar aansoo khushi ke hai (2) [dramatic violin music adds so much to the feeling of this stanza]

kise chhodoon kise paa loon yeh rishte zindagi ke hai
yeh rishte zindagi ke hai
hume to naaz hai tum par humaaraa ho to aisa ho
jidhar dekhoo udhar tum ho nazaara ho to aisa ho
mujhe tum mil gaye humdum

(I can't recall where I have heard these oh-so-familiar piano tunes)

udhar dil hai idhar jaan hai ajab mushkil kaa saamaan hai (2)
labon par muskuraahat hai magar saanson mein toofaan hai

Main Tere Pyaar Ka Beemaar

Usually people either forward these songs or take a bathroom break during these songs, but I honestly love watching them and enjoy them. :D

Mannada does an awesome job and Mehmood's acting is priceless. It amazes me when song writers write the songs to match the movie situations, like this one. SJ music and the classical touch to the song make me want to listen to the song over and over again.

main tere pyaar ka beemaar hoon kya arz karoon (2)
tera aashiq hoon gunehgaar hoon kya arz karoon
main tere pyaar ka beemaar hoon kya arz karoon

mujhko pehchaan lo main hoon tera rasiya jogi (2)
apne jogi pe inaayat ki nazar kab hogi
tera banda hoon (4)
khatavar hoon kya arz karoon
main tere pyaar ka beemaar hoon kya arz karoon

le ek armaan meri jaan main aa pahoocha hoon (2)
teri khaatir to main japan bhi to aa pahooncha hoon
tera mitva hoon (4)
talabgaar hoon kya arz karoon
main tere pyaar ka beemaar hoon kya arz karoon

bin tere dil mera dooba hi chala jaata hai (2)
chahe badnaam sahi tera to kehlata hai
main to rusvaa (4)
are bazaar hoon kyaa arz karoon
main tere pyaar ka beemaar hoon kya arz karoon
tera aashiq hoon gunehgaar hoon kya arz karoon
main tere pyaar ka beemaar hoon kya arz karoon

Aji rooth kar ab...

This pair has some of the most romantic numbers ever! One of my favorite on-screen pairs in HFM.

This song has two solos - both equally pleasing to the ears. I do wish they had longer version for the one sung by Rafisahab.

What I like this music is when the singer sings, the only thing that plays are tabla and/or minimal music and then when the singer pauses the singing, the music picks up! You get to enjoy and appreciate each one. Also, when either of the piano, sitar, violins, flute or trumpet play, there is nothing else playing simultaneously but the tabla. It's amazing!

Hasrat Jaipuri totally rocks! While looking for some song of him, I came across this small biography of him on UrduPoetry.com. It is a great read!

Lata M:

Rafi:

Aansoo bhari hai...

When you listen to this song, you just realize what the class of this song was back then and now. It never gets old, and sounds as fresh as it was only yesterday that it was created.
I have to admit I wish they made Lataji's version back then too, just because I feel it's sung at a little slower pace than Mukeshji's which makes it more emotional. But in any case, I adore the original one too! The lyrics touch that raw nerve inside somewhere. And without those sarangi, sitar and violin playing so beautifully in the background, the song would have been nothing... they stir your heart and countless emotions. Check it out for yourself.

Mere Mehboob Tere Dum Se

varnaa is gham se bhai duniyaa mein kyaa rakhaa hai (2)) (2)
mere mehboob tere dum se

apne geeton mein teraa husn nazar aayaa hai
is liye dil teri mehfil mein mujhe laayaa hai
raastaa bhool gayaa yaa meri manzil hai yehi (2)
koyi batlaaye ke kyaa khoyaa hai kyaa paayaa hai
varnaa is gham se bhai duniyaa mein kyaa rakhaa hai (2)
mere mehboob tere dum se

teri aankhon mein nazar aayi hai jannat mujhko
meri jannat teri aankhon ke sivaa koyi nahin
mein tassavvur mein tere jhoom liyaa kartaa hoon (2)
meri daulat teri chaahat ke sivaa koyi nahin
varnaa is gham se bhai duniyaa mein kyaa rakhaa hai (2)
mere mehboob tere dum se

zindagaani mein kayi rang ke mod aate hai
tu salaamat rahe shaayar ki duaa kehti hai
chaand ghatataa hai ghate husn teraa badhataa raahe (2)
main rahoon yaa na rahoon meri wafaa kehti hai

Aye Gulbadan Aye Gulbadan

I love those songs where Rafi sahab gives voice to Shammi Kapoor and SK is out there charming his lady love by praising her with his nakhra and qaatil adaayen. This is one of them!

I have heard this song quite a lot as a kid, as my dad used to sing a parody of it for my sister and I when we create a havoc together. :D Special memories associated with this one.

Ehsaan Tera Hoga Mujh Par

Such a romantic song! My favorite from this film. Shammi Kapoor has such expressive eyes. I definitely prefer the male version of the song over the female version.

Tum Ko Hamaari Umar Lag Jaaye

(tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)) (2)

muraade ho puri sajhe har tamannaa
mohabbat ki duniyaa ke tum chaand ban naa
bahaaron ki manzil se hansnaa hasaanaa
khushi mein hamaari bhi aawaaz sun naa
kabhi zindagi mein koi gham naa aaye
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

mujhe to khushi hai tumhe kyaa bataau
bhalaa dil ki dhadkan ko kaise chhipaau
kahin ho naa jaau khushi se main paagal
tumhe dekh kar aur bhi muskuraau
khudaa dil-jalo ki nazar se bachaaye
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

sitaaron se uncha ho rusva tumhara
bano tum har ek zindagi ka sahara
tumhe jis se ulfat ho mil jaaye tum ko
samajh lo hamari dua ka ishaara
muqaddar tumhara sadaa jagmagaaye
tum ko hamari umar lag jaaye (2)

tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke sivaay
tum ko hamaari umar lag jaaye (2)

Maasoom Chehra Yeh Qaatil Adaayen

I had wanted to see this song so badly ever since UKM shared this song a few years ago. Two years back I was fortunate enough to get the DVD of the movie from India. Thanks to Ma! I finally got to watch the song and listen to it at the same time.

SJ music is so wonderful; it always pleases your ears. Hasrat Jaipuri's lyrics are mesmerizing, and his use of adjectives romanticize the song even more. Listening to the song you can tell Mohd. Rafi has sung this one just for Shammi Kapoor, and Lata's voice suits Mala Sinha perfectly on screen. The picturization is also fun to watch. Shammi Kapoor and Mala Sinha make a beautiful pair together. *sigh* too bad they don't make such songs these days. For some unknown reason, the song is comparatively less famous than other numbers from this film. Another thing that makes this song very appealing is the Raag Bhimpalasi. Never heard any other song that's sounds so wonderful to ears that's based on this same raag.
