Hum tere bin ab... kyon ki tum hi ho...

After I got a recommendation for the songs of Aashiqui 2 from Sayesha, I decided to give them a try and kind of got hooked to this one. I think it was the singing and music that attracted me to it. Arijit Singh's singing reminds me of Adnan Sami's for some reason, in a good way I think. The lyrics are not super impressive but fit in perfectly with the composition giving the song romantic vibe and makes it a fun song. At the end though, I still have to give it to the composer, Mithoon, for the world class music that makes the song what it is - fun to listen to on repeat mode! As always, the song had me wishing for more stanzas. I know I'm greedy, especially when it comes to good songs. :)

(hum tere bin ab reh nahin sakte
tere bina kya vajood mera) (2)
tujhse juda agar ho jaayenge
to khud se hi ho jaayenge juda

kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

(the music here is so awesome!)

tera mera rishta hai kaisa
ek pal door ganwara nahin
tere liye har roz hai jeete
tujhko diya mera waqt sabhi
koyi lamha mera na ho tere bina
har saans pe naam tera

kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

tum hi ho (2) (what awesome way has he sung this!!)

tere liye hi jeeya main
khud ko jo yoon de diya hai
teri wafa ne mujhko sambhaala
saare ghamon ko dil se nikaala
tere saath mera hai naseeb juda
tujhe paa ke adhoora na raha

hm hm
kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

Saagar ni chaadar... (Gujarati)

As a kid mom used to sing this lullaby (haalaraDu) to us all the time. After growing up we found out that we weren't the only ones or even the first ones she sang this to. Atulmama, along with all other older cousins also got to hear the same song from her when they were kids. So when Sejalben found the audio clip of the song, she couldn't help but feel nostalgic about it and shared it, passing on the nostalgia to me and reminding me of this beautiful song after years. What awesome lyrics and music!! Best part is that the song is sung in the same sur/raag as the original one I have heard growing up. The lullaby was further personalized by singing the baby's name in place of "sooraj" when it was being sung and to whom it was being sung to. Some songs have special places in heart, this being one of them. :)

(kheele chhe jui tyaare tene gamatu re andhaare ey ey
saagar ni chaadar odhi ne sooraj jyaare poDhi jaay
bhaturiyaashaa taaraliya lai chandaa aabhe ramavaa jaay) (2)

(Some amazing music plays here. Wish I knew who the music writer is)

Khoyi khoyi yaadein... sooni sooni raatein...

Since last week I've been wanting to listen to old Sa Re Ga Ma songs from Zee TV and it's been so nice to see young Sonu Nigam and listen to his songs on there along with some really beautiful gems like this one by Shreya Ghoshal. Wish I got to listen to the whole song. It seems incomplete with just one stanza. Has this been sung by Lata ji before? I keep wondering...

hm hm
aa ha ha ha
aa ha aa ha ha..
hm hm hm hm hm..

(khoyi khoyi yaadein
sooni sooni raatein
woh beeti baatein
sapnon ki baaraatein

jab bhi mujhko chhu jaati hai
nam hoti hai aankhen) (2)

das gayi mujhe yaadon ki woh purvaayi
phir rula gayi shaam ki yeh tanhaayi
mere paas aa ke kehte hai suhaane pal
roko aansuo ko laut aayenge woh pal

khoyi khoyi yaadein
sooni sooni raatein
woh beeti baatein
sapnon ki baaraatein

jab bhi mujhko chhu jaati hai
nam hoti hai aankhen

Jiye to jiye kaise... bin aapke..

Having gotten a chance to meet Pankaj Udhas ji in person a couple of weekends back was super exciting not only for getting a chance to meet and get his autograph but also to listen to him sing! He didn't sing too many ghazals at the program that I was part of but got his DVD where he has sung various ghazals at Gateway of India in December 2011. And I got to listen to this song from Saajan. It took me back to the 90s once again.. what I loved the most about this was the aalaap he sang, that aren't in the film song. It just made me wish the song was longer, at least one more stanza would've been awesome. Until then, here's the non-filmy version of the beautiful ghazal penned by Sameer ji.

jiye to jiye kaise bin aap ke (2)
lagta nahin dil kahin bin aap ke
jiye to jiye kaise.. haaye.. bin aap ke

dekhke woh mujhe tera palken jhuka dena (2)
yaad bahot aaye tera muskura dena

dekhke woh mujhe tera palken jhuka dena
yaad bahot aaye tera muskura dena

kaise bhulaau woh saari baatein
woh meethi raatein woh mulakaate

jiye to jiye kaise.. haaye.. bin aap ke (2)

kaise kahoon bina tere zindagi yeh kya hogi (2)
jaise koyi sazaa koyi baddua hogi
kaise kahoon.. (aalap follows)
kaise kahoon kahoon..
kaise kahoon.. (2)
kaise kahoon (3) bina tere zindagi yeh kya hogi
jaise koyi sazaa koyi baddua hogi

maine kiya hai yeh faislaa
jeena nahin hai tere bina

jiye to jiye kaise.. haaye.. bin aap ke
jiye to jiye kaise bin aap ke
lagta nahin dil kahin bin aap ke
jiye to jiye kaise bin aap ke
haaye bin aap ke (2)
