Tumhi Dekho Na...

A beautiful song with lovely lyrics and tunes. Yet another Sonu-Alka duet but they truly make it unique and it makes me want to listen to it again and again. Rani looks really pretty in saaris. :)

M: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri
F: main hairaan hoon tumhe kya kahoon
ke din mein hui kaisi chaandni
M: jaagi jaagi si hai
phir bhi khwaabon mein hai
khoyi khoyi zindagi
F: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
M: tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri

M: behke behke se mann mehke mehke se tan
ujhali ujhali fizaaon mein hai

F: aaj hum hai jahaan kitni rangeeniyan
chhalki chhalki nigaahon mein hai

M: neeli neeli ghataaon se hai chal rahi
halki halki roshani

F: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
M: tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri
F: main hairaan hoon tumhe kya kahoon
ke din mein hui kaisi chaandni

F: main to anjaan thi yoon bhi hoga kabhi
pyaar barsega yoon toot ke

M: ho sach yeh iqraar hai
F: aa
M: sach yehi pyaar hai
baaki bandhan hai sab jhooth ke
F: aa... aa... aa...
meri saanson mein hai ghul rahi pyaar ki
dheemi dheemi raagini

M: tumhi dekho na yeh kya ho gayaa
tumhaara hoon main aur tum meri
F: main hairaan hoon tumhe kya kahoon
ke din mein hui kaisi chaandni
M: jaagi jaagi si hai
phir bhi khwaabon mein hai
khoyi khoyi zindagi

Tum Mujhe Yoon Bhula Na Paaoge

It is Rafi sahab's 85th birthday tomorrow. This song of his in his memory... wish he was still with us.

May he find peace wherever he is.

The best singer of HFM!

Male version:

tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gungunaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
ho tum mujhe yoon

(woh bahaaren woh chaandani raaten
hum ne kee thi jo pyaar ki baaten) (2)
un nazaaron ki yaad aayegi
jab khayaalon mein mujhko laaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
ho tum mujhe yoon

(mere haathon mein teraa chehra tha
jaise koyi gulaab hota hai) (2)
aur sahaara liya tha baahon ka
woh samaa kis taraah bhulaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
ho tum mujhe yoon

(mujhko dekhe bina qaraar na tha
ek aisa bhi daur guzraa hai) (2)
jhooth maano to puchh lo dil se
main kahoonga to rooth jaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge

Female version:

tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gungunaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

(beeti baaton ka kuchh khayaal karo
kuchh to bolo kuchh hum se baat karo) (2)
raaz-e-dil main tumhe bataa doongi
main tumhaari hoon maan jaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

(meri khaamoshiyon ko samjho tum
zindagi yaad mein guzaari hai) (2)
main miti hoon tumhaari chaahat mein
aur kitna mujhe mitaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

(dil hi dil mein tum hi se pyaar kiya
apne jeevan ko bhi nisaar kiya) (2)
kaun tadapaa tumhaari raahon mein
jab yeh sochoge jaan jaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gungunaaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge
haan tum mujhe yoon

Jingle Bells... Aao Tumhe Chaand Pe Le Jaaye...

Merry Xmas everyone! Found just a perfect song... it's really a sweet one.

LM: (jingle bells jingle bells
jingle all the way
santa claus is coming along
riding on a sleigh)
la la la...
la la la...
la la la la la...

Girl: yeh santa claus ka ghar kahan hai
AP: chand pe
Girl: hume bhi wahan le chaliye na
AP: achha?

LM: (aao tumhe chaand pe le jaaye
pyaar bhare sapne sajhaaye
chhota sa bangla banaaye
ek nayi duniya basaaye
ho ho) (2)
aao tumhe chaand pe le jaaye

pyaar ki hai duniya door aasmaan pe
mil ke na bichhade koi wahaan pe
aisi bhi ek dagar hai
aisa bhi ek nagar hai (here I am reminded of ek pyaar ka naghma hai)
ho ho ho
aao tumhe chaand pe le jaaye
pyaar bhare sapne sajhaaye
chhota sa bangla banaaye
ek nayi duniya basaaye
ho ho
aao tumhe chaand pe le jaaye

gham jahaan soye aur khushi jaage
aaj ki hai manzil taaron se aage
dil wahaan rote nahin hai
aansoo to hote nahin hai
ho ho ho
aao tumhe chaand pe le jaaye
pyaar bhare sapne sajhaaye
chhota sa bangla banaaye
ek nayi duniya basaaye

Tere Paas Aa Ke Mera Waqt Guzar Jaata Hai

Mala Sinha, the gorgeous damsel and the He-man of Hindi cinema come together once again for this one. This film had some of the most beautiful songs and you can see why. My favorite ones are "aap ko pyaar chhupaane ki buri aadat hai" and this one.

And I just realized we are one week away from Rafi sahab's 85th birthday... May God bless him wherever he is with peace and bliss.

Enjoy this beautiful melody by the most hit pair of singers in HFM.

M: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai (2)
do ghadi ke liye ghum jaane kidhar jaata hai

F: jab kabhi door se tu mujhko nazar aata hai
pyaar hans kar meri aankhon me sanwar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

F: tu wohi hai jisse is dil ne sadaayen dee hai (2)
tu wohi hai jise nazron ne duaayein dee hai
tu wohi hai ke jo dil le ke mukar jaata hai

F: do ghadi ke liye ghum jaane kidhar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

M: jaam itne teri masti bhari aankhon se piye... haan
jaam itne teri masti bhari aankhon se piye
bekhudi mein tujhe sajde meri nazron ne kiye
tere jalwon mein khuda mujhko nazar aata hai

F: pyaar hans ke meri aankhon me sanwar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

F: teri yaad aate hi ghabra ke chali aati hoon (2)
main har ek qaid ko thukra ke chali aati hoon
main nahin aati mujhe pyaar idhar laata hai
pyaar hans kar meri aankhon me sanwar jaata hai

M: do ghadi ke liye ghum jaane kidhar jaata hai
Both: tere paas aa ke mera waqt guzar jaata hai

Waho Waho Gobind Singh Aape Gur Chela

Today, while listening to Bay Area Third Eye, I got to listen to this shabad (I think that's what it's called) and I completely got addicted to it. It's very pleasant to listen to and makes one feel at peace. Enjoy!

Jaane Woh Kaise Log The...

The first time I had heard this song was when I was a kid. Mom used to hum these classics so often then that I just thought that these were actually songs of hers and not movie songs. Later on when I learnt what movies were, I realized these were actually immortal songs made by some crazily creative folks. Reading about it and listening to it on Anaamica's blog made me realize once again what a beautiful song it actually is. I just had to post it. Mindblowing lyrics!

jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi to gham ki gard mili (2)
chaahat ke naghame chaahe to aanhen sard mili
dil ke bojh ko dhundhalaa kar gayaa jo ghamkhaar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

bichhad gayaa (2)
bichhad gayaa har saathi de kar pal do pal kaa saath
kis ko fursat hai jo thaame deewaanon kaa haath
hum ko apnaa saayaa tak aksar bezaar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

isko hi jeenaa kehte hai to yoon hi jee lenge (2)
uff na karenge lab see lenge aansoo pee lenge
gham se ab ghabaraanaa kaisaa gham sau baar milaa
humne to jab kaliyaan maangi kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar milaa

Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu...

(aage bhi jaane na tu peechhe bhi jaane na tu
jo bhi hai bas yehi ek pal hai)(2)
aage bhi jaane na tu

anjaane saayo ka raahon mein dera hai
andekhi baahon ne hum sab ko chheda hai
yeh pal ujaala hai baaki andhera hai
yeh pal ganwaana na yeh pal hi tera hai
jeene waale soch le yehi waqt hai kar le poori aarzoo
aage bhi jaane na tu peechhe bhi jaane na tu
jo bhi hai bas yehi ek pal hai

is pal ke jalwo ne mehfil sanvaari hai
is pal ki garmi ne dhadkan ukhaadi hai
is pal ke hone se duniya hamaari hai
yeh pal jo dekho to sadiyon pe bhaari hai
jeene waale soch le yehi waqt hai kar le poori aarzoo
aage bhi jaane na tu peechhe bhi jaane na tu
jo bhi hai bas yehi ek pal hai
aage bhi jaane na tu

la la la... la la la la la...
la la la... la la la la la...
la la la... la la... la la la... la la la la la...

is pal ke saaye mein apna thikana hai
is pal ke aage ki har shay fasaana kai
kal kisne dekha hai kal kisne janaa hai
is pal se paayega jo tujko paanaa hai
jeene waale soch le yehi waqt hai kar le poori aarzoo
aage bhi jaane na tu peechhe bhi jaane na tu
jo bhi hai bas yehi ek pal hai
aage bhi jaane na tu

Aaja Sanam Madhur Chaandni Mein Hum

Evergreen! That's the category of this one. The song still sounds brand new after more than half a century and people can still relate to it.

Again, one of those first few songs I listened to as kid and have ever lasting memories attached with it - the old cassette player with loose plug that needed extra support to stay in the plug socket and the tape lid that needed something heavy to be placed on top so the two little groovy holes on tape actually fit into the two revolving screw-like knobs in the player. It was an old family tape player that just sat around and I got to play it around as no one used it. All I had back then was a couple of dusty audio tapes with scratched labels and no clue what was in them. I was just fascinated with the whole mechanism of switches and tape and the music that came out of it... it is only now that I actually realize that it was because of Lataji's and Mannada's lovely voices and SJ's music that did the trick. I had no clue about what the lyrics meant... I still remember thinking that lyricist Shailendra was talking about the garment "lungi" when he wrote "dam bhar jo udhar mooh phere..." :P How silly I was! This one took me back to those childhood days.

I can't stand Raj Kapoor and totally adore Nargis, but still think they made a great pair on silver screen. Hasrat Jaipuri's lyrics just get better and better as I discover/realize how good his work has been.

F: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

M: bheegi bheegi raat mein dil ka daaman thaam le
khoyi khoyi zindagi har dum tera naam le

F: (chaand ki behki nazar keh rahi hai pyaar kar
zindagi hai ek safar kaun jaane kal kidhar) (2)

M: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

F: kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

M: dil yeh chaahe aaj to baadal ban ud jaau main
dulhan jaisa aasmaan dharti par le aau main

F: (chaand ka dola saje dhoom taaron mein mache
jhoom ke duniya kahe pyaar mein do dil mile) (2)

Both: aaja sanam madhur chaandni mein hum tum
mile to veeraane mein bhi aa jaayegi bahaar
jhoomne lagega aasmaan (2)

F: kehta hai dil aur machalta hai dil
more saajan le chal mujhe taaron ke paar
lagta nahin hai dil yahaan (2)

Aise to na dekho...

I like very few songs of Dev Anand and this is one of them. Rafi sahab's voice can be the most playful and entice you. He's done a fantastic job in this one, I adore this one. Burmandada's music touches your heart, and Majrooh Sultanpuri's lyrics are penned so beautifully, they describe the feelings of how someone's eyes can intoxicate you.

aise to na dekho ke hum ko nasha ho jaaye
aise to na dekho
khubsoorat si koyi hum se khataa ho jaaye (2)
aise to na dekho

tum hume roko phir bhi hum naa ruke
tum kaho kaafir phir bhi aise jhuke
qadam-e-naaz pe ek sajdaa adaa ho jaaye
aise to na dekho

yoon na ho aankhen rahe kaajal ghole
badh ke bekhudi hanseen gesu khole
khul ke phir zulfen siyaah kaali balaa ho jaaye
aise to na dekho

hum to masti mein jaane kyaa kyaa kahe
lab-e-naazuk se aisa na ho tumhe
beqaraari kaa gilaa hum se sivaa ho jaaye

aise to na dekho ke hum ko nasha ho jaaye
khubsoorat si koyi hum se kataa ho jaaye
aise to na dekho...

Jab se tumhe dekha hai...

The best pair that ever sang duets... that's how I like to describe Rafi and Asha. Yet another romantic song to make it to their collection and what beautiful rhyming lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni. It just doesn't get any better. Ravi's music is simply charming and makes me want to listen to this one all day long.

There is a confusion that I have about the year this film was released. Some sites say 1961 and the others mention 1963. I've put 1961 as earthmusic.net had that one. If you do happen to know the correct one, please to share. Thank you. :)

M: jab se tumhe dekha hai aankhon mein tum hi tum ho (2)
F: hum bhi yehi kehte hai saanson mein tum hi tum ho
M: jab se tumhe dekha hai aankhon mein tum hi tum ho

M: (aa gaye pyaar ke din bekhudi chhaane lagi
F: mastiyaan jhoom uthi zindagi gaane lagi) (2)
zindagi gaane lagi
M: dil ke naye ki naghmon taano mein tum hi tum ho (2)
F: hum bhi yehi kehte hai saanson mein tum hi tum ho
M: jab se tumhe dekha hai aankhon mein tum hi tum ho

F: aa ha ha aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
M: aa ha ha aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa

F: (jab se paaya hai tumhe bheega bheega hai samaa
M: jab se chaaha hai tumhe har nazaara hai jawaan) (2)
har nazaara hai jawaan
F: dil mein tumhi rehte ho yaadon mein tum hi tum ho (2)
M: hum bhi yehi kehte hai saanson mein tum hi tum ho
F: jab se tumhe dekha hai aankhon mein tum hi tum ho

Tumhe Dekhati Hoon

(tumhe dekhati hoon to lagtaa hai aise
ke jaise yugon se tumhe jaanti hoon) (2)
agar tum ho saagar
agar tum ho saagar main pyaasi nadi hoon
agar tum ho saawan main jalti kali hoon
piya tum ho saagar

mujhe meri neenden
mujhe meri neenden mera chain de do
mujhe mere sapnon ki ek rain de do na
yehi baat pehle
yehi baat pehle bhi tum se kahi thi
wohi baat phir aaj dohra rahi hoon
piya tum ho saagar

tumhe chhu ke pal mein bani dhool chandan (2)
tumhaari mahek se mahekane lage tan
mahekane lage tan
mere paas aao
mere paas aao gale se lagaao
piya aur tumse main kya chaahati hoon
tumhe dekhati hoon to lagtaa hai aise
ke jaise yugon se tumhe jaanti hoon
agar tum ho saagar

ho ho ho muraliyaa samajh kar
muraliyaa samajh kar mujhe tum uthaa lo
bas ek baar hothon se apne lagaa lo na
ek baar hothon se apne lagaa lo na
koyi soor to jaage
koyi soor to jaage meri dhadakano mein
ke main apni sargam se roothi hui hoon

tumhe dekhati hoon to lagtaa hai aise
ke jaise yugon se tumhe jaanti hoon
agar tum ho saagar
agar tum ho saagar main pyaasi nadi hoon
agar tum ho saawan main jalti kali hoon
piya tum ho saagar...

Mausam hai aashiqaana...

Yet again, it's one of those songs that has the last stanza of the song starting off entirely differently than the rest of the stanzas. One of my favorite songs of Pakeezah and the one I never get bored of listening to or watching. Goosebumpy music of Ghulam Mohammad and out of this world lyrics by none other than Kamal Amrohi sahab. I didn't know his whole name was Syed Anwar Hyder Kamal Amrohi. He's the same one who has also penned kahin ek maasoom naazuk si ladki.

The best part is I was able to find the extended clip of this song on youtube with the scene and dialogs before the song starts. I really do wish the clip had the music after the song completes... the one where Raj Kumar comes riding on horseback and is awestruck to see her asleep in his tent for the first time; she's awake yet pretends to be asleep and mumbles the dialog "ya allah.." (or something like that). What classy movies they used to make back then...

Him: yeh phir ek barasti hui raat hai... aur main safar mein hoon. mere siva compartment mein aur koi nahin... lekin... us saamne wale berth par meri ek suhaani yaad phir karvat badal rahi hai aur mehndi se racha hua wohi haseen paanv mujhe aaj bhi baar baar dans raha hai... yeh kya hai? is kaifiyat ka naam kya hai?

Her: mohabbat!

mausam hai aashiqaana
aye dil kahin se unko
aise mein dhoondh laana (2)

mausam hai aashiqaana
aye dil kahin se unko
aise mein dhoondh laana (2)

mausam hai aashiqaana

kehna ke rut jawaan hai aur hum taras rahe hai
kaali ghataa ke saaye birahan ko dans rahe hai
dar hai na maar daale
saawan ka kya thikaanaa (2)
mausam hai aashiqaana

sooraj kahin bhi jaaye
tum par na dhoop aaye (2)
aa aa aa
tum ko pukaarte hai in gesuon ke saaye
aa jaao main banaa doon
palkon ka shaamiyaanaa (2)
mausam hai aashiqaana

phirte hai hum akele baahon mein koyi le le
aakhir koyi kahaan tak tanhaaiyon se khele
din ho gaye hai zaalim
raaten hai qaatilaana (2)
mausam hai aashiqaana

aa aa aa...
yeh raat yeh khaamoshi
yeh khaab se nazaare (2)
jugnu hai yaa zameen par utare hue hai taare
bekhaab meri aankhen (2)
madhosh hai zamaana (2)

mausam hai aashiqaana
aye dil kahin se unko
aise mein dhoondh laana (2)

mausam hai aashiqaana...

Ek Haseen Shaam Ko

Discovered this number a couple of years back when I was browsing around on mohdrafi.com. What a fantastic song! Simply adore the lyrics and the tunes of the song along with my favorite singer, of course. Dharampaaji and Nutan make a fabulous on-screen pair!

ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa
pehle apna hua karta tha ab kisi ka ho gayaa

muddaton se aarzoo thi zindagi mein koyi aaye
sooni sooni zindagi mein koyi shamma jhilmilaaye
woh jo aaye to roshan zamaana ho gayaa
ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa
pehle apna hua karta tha ab kisi ka ho gayaa

mere dil ke caaravaan ko le chalaa hai aaj koyi
shabnami si jiski aankhen thodi jaagi thodi soyi
unko dekhaa to mausam suhaanaa ho gayaa
ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa
pehle apna hua karta tha ab kisi ka ho gayaa

Deewaane Hai Deewaanon Ko

It's amazing to be able to analyze the lyrics and music of favorite songs, and if you can do that on a daily basis, it's even more fun... that's how we remembered this one today. The lyrics are so beautiful and fun to hum along with the song and sweet voices of Lataji and Rafi sahab just add to the charm.

When I first watched this film almost a decade ago, it was amazing to discover that the actor is none other than the lyricist himself. Now we don't get to see that often in HFM, do we?

M: aap ke dil mein jo thodi si jagaah mil jaaye
apne armaanon ki betaab kali khil jaaye

M: deewaane hai deewaano ko na ghar chaahiye na dar chaahiye
mohabbat bhari ek nazar chaahiye nazar chaahiye
F: jawaani mein jawaani ke sahaare ho jawaan mere meherbaan
mujhe tu hi tu humsafar chaahiye humsafar chaahiye
Both: deewaane hai deewaano ko na ghar chaahiye
mohabbat bhari ek nazar chaahiye nazar chaahiye

M: hai sar pe humaare khulaa aasmaan khulaa aasmaan (2)
F: hamaare liye hai yehi aashiyaan yehi aashiyaan
M: bina pyaar ke zindagi kuchh nahin (2)
jahaan pyaar hai har khushi hai wahin
F: ho phoolon bhari chaahe chaahe kaanton bhari haan kaanton bhari
chale jis pe tu woh dagar chaahiye dagar chaahiye

Both: deewaane hai deewaano ko na ghar chaahiye na dar chaahiye
mohabbat bhari ek nazar chaahiye nazar chaahiye

M: nigaahon mein aise ishaare hue ishaare hue (2)
F: ke dil ne kahaa hum tumhaare hue tumhaare hue
M: nazar ban gayi hai zubaan pyaar mein (2)
mazaa aa gayaa jeet kaa haar mein
F: milega wohi maangoge jo dildaar se magar pyaar se
duwaaon mein apni asar chaahiye asar chaahiye

Both: deewaane hai deewaano ko na ghar chaahiye na dar chaahiye
mohabbat bhari ek nazar chaahiye nazar chaahiye
jawaani mein jawaani ke sahaare ho jawaan mere meherbaan
mujhe tu hi tu humsafar chaahiye humsafar chaahiye

Tere Bina Jiya Jaaye Na

I completely adore all the songs of this movie. All of them are fantastic and I think that's because it's RDB's work. Of course, with due credits to the singers but it's not often that the entire soundtrack turns out this good. This is one of those rare films where each and every song is simply fantastic! The film is alerady on the to-be-watched list... hopefully... some day. :)

Vinod Mehra is entirely handsome and Rekha so good looking... it's even fun to watch them. The beautifully penned lyrics by Gulzar ji once again convey messages of hearts that are felt more often, rarely described so precisely.

F: tere bina jiya jaaye na (4)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na
ho ho ho ho

tere bina jiya jaaye na (2)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na
ho ho ho ho

tere bina jiya jaaye na

(jab bhi khayaalon mein tu aaye
mere badan se khushbu aaye) (2)
mehke badan mein rahaa na jaaye
rahaa jaaye na
tere bina jiya jaaye na (2)
bin tere tere bin saajna
saans mein saans aaye na

Mere Rang Mein...

(mere rang mein rangne waali
pari ho ya ho pariyon ki raani
ya ho meri prem kahaani
mere sawaalon ka jawaab do
do na) (2)

(chorus)

(bolo na kyon yeh chaand sitaare
takte hai yooh mukhade ko tumhaare) (2)
chhuke badan ko hawaa kyon mehki
raat bhi hai kyon behki behki
mere sawaalon ka jawaab do
do na

kyon ho tum sharmaayi hui si
lagti ho kuchh ghabaraayi hui si

ho kyon ho tum sharmaayi hui si
lagti ho kuchh ghabaraayi hui si

dhalka hua sa aanchal kyon hai
yeh mere dil mein hulchul kyon hai
mere sawaalon ka jawaab do
do na

dono taraf benaam si uljhan
jaise mile ho dulha-dulhan

aa ha ha ha ha

dono taraf benaam si uljhan
jaise mile ho dulha-dulhan

dono ki aisi haalat kyon hai
aakhir itni mohabbat kyon hai
mere sawaalon ka jawaab do
do na

mere rang mein rangne waali
pari ho ya ho pariyon ki raani
ya ho meri prem kahaani
mere sawaalon ka jawaab do

Aaja Maahiya...

Anu Malik does it again!! I love this man's music. It's just to crazy and so much fun. One of my favorite songs of Hrithik Roshan. No director can ever go wrong with this singer pair. It just works with these two in it... Udit and Alka. I think probably the most hit pair of current times. And it's a fun number to watch as well.

M: sohe maahi re
maahi maahi re
maahi maahi re maahi maahi re (2)

Ch: aaja maahi mere (3) aa
aaja maahi mere (3) aa

M: aa dhoop maloon main tere haathon mein
aa sajda karoon main tere haathon mein
ho subah ki mahendi chhalak rahi hai
aaja
aaja maahiya (2) aaja
aaja maahiya ho aaja maahiya

Ch: aaja maahi mere (3) aa
F: aaja maahi mere (3) aa

aahista pukaaro sab sun lenge
bas labon se chhoo lo lab sun lenge
ho aankh bhi kal se phadak rahi hai
aaja
aaja maahiya (2) aaja
aaja maahiya ho aaja maahiya

M: (ek noor se aankhen chaunk gayi
dekha jo tujhe aaine mein) (2)
Ch: aaja maahiya (2)
F: koyi noor kiran hogi woh bhi
jo chubhne lagi hai seene mein
Ch: aaja maahiya (2)

M: aa dhoop maloon main tere haathon mein
aa sajda karoon main tere haathon mein
ho subah ki mahendi chhalak rahi hai aaja

aaja maahiya ho aaja maahiya
F: aaja
aaja maahiya ho aaja maahiya
M: maahi maahi re (3)

F: (laal ho jab yeh shaam kinaara
odha dena sar pe saara) (2)
Ch: aaja maahiya (2)
M: chal rok le suraj chhup jaayega
paani mein gir ke bujh jaayega
Ch: aaja maahiya (2)
F: aahista pukaaro sab sun lenge
bas labon se chhoo lo lab sun lenge
haan aankh bhi kal se phadak rahi hai
aaja
aaja maahiya ho aaja maahiya
M: aaja maahiya ho aaja maahiya

maahi re (7)

Ek Din Aap Yoon...

I stumbled upon this song again today after years. I am getting to listen to the best of 90s songs these days. It's amazing to rediscover these forgotten gems with upbeat music. Songs like these just add so much life to a day.

Javed Akhtar is the king of romance, in my view. What great lyrics has he penned... It's amazing!

F: (ek din aap yoon hum ko mil jaayenge
phool hi phool raahon mein khil jaayenge
maine socha na tha) (2)

M: (ek din zindagi itni hogi haseen
jhoomega aasmaan gaayegi yeh zameen) (2)
maine socha na tha

F: (dil ki daali pe kaliyaan si khilne lagi
jab nigaahen nigaahon se milne lagi) (2)
M: ek din is taraah hosh kho jaayenge
paas aaye to madhosh ho jaayenge
maine socha na tha

F: ek din aap yoon hum ko mil jaayenge
phool hi phool raahon mein khil jaayenge
maine socha na tha

(Some awesome orchestra literally sweeps you off the feet here and for some real strange reason I am reminded of the music of "chaahe banaa do chaahe mita do... ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar" and "koi manchala gar pakad lega aanchal... huzoor is kadar bhi na")

M: (jagamagaati hui jaagti raat hai
raat hai ya sitaaron ki barsaat hai) (2)
F: ek din dil ki raahon mein apne liye
jal uthenge mohabbat ke itne diye
maine socha na tha

M: ek din zindagi itni hogi haseen
jhoomega aasmaan gaayegi yeh zameen
maine socha na tha

F: ek din aap yoon hum ko mil jaayenge
phool hi phool raahon mein khil jaayenge
maine socha na tha

M: maine socha na tha
F: maine socha na tha

Is Kadar Pyaar Hai

It's been ages since I listened to these albums of Sonu Nigam. Digging into old music boxes found this and a couple of other albums. It took me back to the time when I attended Sonu Nigam's live concert and almost went up on stage with him to shake his hands. What a fun personality and an awesome singer! Wish I'll get to attend his concert again some day. This album was just awesome as it had all the deewangi related songs. This being one of my favorites from the collection. Enjoy!

is kadar pyaar hai tum se hai humsafar (2)
ab to jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar
tumhaari har adaa tumhaari har nazar
yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar

is kadar pyaar hai tum se hai humsafar
ab to jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar

dil mein hai betaabiyaan neend udne lagi
tere khayaalon se hi aankh judne lagi
har pal tum ko dekha maine
kehti hai meri nazar
tumhaari har ada tumhaari har nazar
yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar
is kadar pyaar hai tum se hai humsafar
ab to jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar

saanson mein basne lagi jab se tu oh jaan-e-jaan
apna sa lagne lagaa mujhko saara jahaan
mehka mehka lagta mujhko
khushiyon se dil ka nagar
tumhaari har ada tumhaari har nazar
yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar
is kadar pyaar hai tum se hai humsafar
ab to jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar
tumhaari har ada tumhaari har nazar
yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar

Tum Pukaar Lo Tumhaara Intezaar Hai

One of my favorite haunting melodies of Hemant Kumar. What awesome lyrics and the depth the music and his voice give to song are out of this world! I'm not a huge fan of Hemantda but if I have to pick and choose favorites, this would surely be one of them.

hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm

tum pukaar lo
tumhaara intezaar hai tum pukaar lo
khwaab chun rahi hai raat beqaraar hai
tumhaara intezaar hai tum pukaar lo

(honth pe liye hue dil ki baat hum
jaagte rahenge aur kitni raat hum) (2)
muqtasar si baat hai tum se pyaar hai
tumhaara intezaar hai tum pukaar lo

(dil bahel to jaayega is khayaal se
haal mil gaya tumhaara apne haal se) (2)
raat yeh qaraar ki beqaraar hai
tumhaara intezaar hai

Dil Ki Nazar Se...

I felt like listening to this one all over again. It is one of those that I listened to as a kid for the very first time and never cared about it.

Now it has become one of my favorite Mukesh-Lata duets. When Lata ji sings "aakaash mein..." you actually feel like there are those gestures created in the skies and when Mukesh sings "madbhari yeh tumhaari nazar kaa asar hai" one literally feels the mad/intoxication of Nutan's eyes. Shankar Jaikishan know how to create immortal music.

M: dil ki nazar se nazaron ki dil se
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de

F: seene se uth kar hothon pe aayaa
yeh geet kaisaa yeh raag kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de

M: dil ki nazar se nazaron ki dil se
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

F: (kyon bekhabar yoon khinchi si chali jaa rahi main
yeh kaun se bandhanon mein bandhi jaa rahi main) (2)
kuchh kho rahaa hai kuchh mil rahaa hai
yeh baat kya hai yeh raaz kya hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

M: (hum kho chale chaand hai ya koi jaadugar hai
yaa madbhari yeh tumhaari nazar kaa asar hai) (2)
sab kuchh humaaraa ab hai tumhaaraa
yeh baat kya hai yeh raaz kya hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

F: (aakaash mein ho rahe hai yeh kaise ishaare
M: kyaa dekhkar aaj hai itne khush chaand-taare) (2)
kyon tum paraaye dil mein samaaye
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de

Both: dil ki nazar se nazaron ki dil se
yeh baat kyaa hai yeh raaz kyaa hai
koi hume bataa de dil ki nazar se

Mohabbat Aisi Dhadkan Hai

Does it happen with you that you hear a song somewhere that you've never listened to before and then it just stays in your memory until you actually make an attempt to listen to it? This is one of those songs. I have no idea where I heard it first but it just got imprinted in memory... until today. One of the oldies by Lata ji where she sounds so different than her usual self. I guess this was the time when singers like Shamshad Begum ruled the HFM and everyone tried to be like that. I do like her as well but just something I noticed that how Lata ji changed her style of singing with time and I am glad she did.

Yet again I become a fan of Hasrat ji's lyrics, they're so beautiful and same with C. Ramchandra's music. Lovely song that is created by the hard work of all of these artists and many more behind the screen.

is intazaar-e-shauq ko jalvo ki aas hai
ek shamma jal rahi hai so aisi udaas hai

mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samjhaayi nahin jaati (2)
zubaan par dil ki bechaini
kabhi laayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

chale aao chale aao taqaaza hai nigaahon ka (2)
taqaaza hai nigaahon ka
kisi ki aarzoo aise
to thukaraayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samajhaai nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

mere dil ne bichhaaye hai sajde aaj raahon mein (2)
sajde aaj raahon mein
jo haalat aashiqi ki hai
woh batlaayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai
jo samjhaayi nahin jaati (2)
mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai

Chandan Sa Badan

I recently got a chance to play antakshari with 15 people and we all had an amazing time. The other team sang one of my favorite songs that I had forgotten. I like both the versions of this song equally for their singers, the raag Yaman and the music and of course lyrics. Also, it's a special song because it is the very first song that I learned how to play on a harmonium/keyboard. Youtube is a blessing now, I was able to find both of them on there and enjoyed watching them as well. Hope you'd like them too.

Male version:

hmm hmm hmm hmm...

(chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa) (2)
mujhe dosh naa denaa jagwaalon (2)
ho jaau agar main deewaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan

(yeh kaam kamaan bhanwe teri
palkon ke kinaare kajaraare) (2)
maathe par sindoori suraj
hothon pe dahekte angaare
saayaa bhi jo teraa pad jaaye (2)
aabaad ho dil kaa veeraanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan

(tan bhi sundar man bhi sundar
tu sundartaa ki moorat hai) (2)
kisi aur ko shaayad kam hogi
mujhe teri bahot zaroorat hai
pehle bhi bahot main tarsaa hoon (2)
tu aur na mujhko tarsaana

chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa
mujhe dosh naa denaa jagwaalon (2)
ho jaau agar main deewaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan

~~~~~*~~~~~
Female version:
(chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa) (2)
mujhe dosh naa denaa jagwaalon (2)
ho jaaye agar dil deewaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
yeh vishaal nayan jaise neel gagan
panchhi ki tarah kho jaau main
sirahaanaa jo ho teri baahon kaa
angaaron pe so jaau main
meraa bairaagi man dol gayaa (2)
dekhi jo adaa teri mastaanaa
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
tan bhi sundar man bhi sundar
tu sundartaa ki moorat hai
kisi aur ko shaayad kam hogi
mujhe teri bahot zaroorat hai
pehle bhi bahot dil tarsaa hai (2)
tu aur na dil ko tarsaana
chandan saa badan chanchal chitavan
dheere se teraa yeh muskaanaa
