Memories of legendary singer Mohammad Rafi will soon revive back. Here is the opportunity to hear some of Rafi’s unreleased songs. An unreleased film of the late 70’s titled ‘Sorry Madam’ directed by Dilip Bose has been revived by Narayani Creative Solutions. The film has songs sung by Rafi, which were composed by Chitragupt. The film was never released and Narayani Creative Solutions have bought the music rights now and are also planning to make a film by the same title. Dilip Bose’s sons Diwakar and Dipankar will direct the film and will star newcomers.
Also singer Sonu Nigam is set to record 18 famous Mohammad Rafi songs showing his unconditional love for his idol Mohammad Rafi. Sonu in his own way will be paying a tribute Rafi and has signed up with City of Brimingham Symphony Orchestra to record the songs. The songs have been selected by CBSO and will be in the symphony Orchestra style. Sonu adds that it is his tribute to his favorite singer. Sonu is also planning his forthcoming album slated to release in June which will be a semi-classical one and will have eight songs composed by Deepak Pandit.

Deewaanaa Huaa Baadal...
Recently, I was reading an article in India Currents about O.P. Nayyar and his interview "Never Say Goodbye" by Anuradha Choudhary that she took for January 2007 edition of Filmfare. Such a lucky person she has been to be able to get all this info about the music maestro from himself right before he left us all to be with God. I was quite surprised to read a lot of things about him in this interview like how strict, arrogant, and stubborn he was and at the same time a man with so much discipline and also the man who never had any classical training. I was stumped to know that last bit! Couldn't believe my eyes when I read the article. I had to reread the same sentence at least three times before I could decipher what it meant. All I could think of was his songs and then the personality that I saw as a judge in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa programs. I still remember in that one he was asked by a contestant about what to do when you as an artist are nervous while performing. I distinctly remember he said even when we are 60 years old, we get that same feeling. We as an artist have to learn how to deal with it. He added that it was not one of those feelings that went away with experience in this field. Now after reading the article I understand the depth of his answer. Wow! what a personality. I was saddened to know his family didn't keep relationship with him in last few years of his life but I guess I know why after reading him in this interview. His work is timeless and he himself says it so proudly. Indeed his work is unique and we will remember this legendary person for a long time. This track, one of my favorites, his work with Asha. Rafi's voice is icing on the cake!
MR: o ho ho... o ho ho.. aa haa haa...

Maasoom Chehra Yeh Qaatil Adaayen
I had wanted to see this song so badly ever since UKM shared this song a few years ago. Two years back I was fortunate enough to get the DVD of the movie from India. Thanks to Ma! I finally got to watch the song and listen to it at the same time.
SJ music is so wonderful; it always pleases your ears. Hasrat Jaipuri's lyrics are mesmerizing, and his use of adjectives romanticize the song even more. Listening to the song you can tell Mohd. Rafi has sung this one just for Shammi Kapoor, and Lata's voice suits Mala Sinha perfectly on screen. The picturization is also fun to watch. Shammi Kapoor and Mala Sinha make a beautiful pair together. *sigh* too bad they don't make such songs these days. For some unknown reason, the song is comparatively less famous than other numbers from this film. Another thing that makes this song very appealing is the Raag Bhimpalasi. Never heard any other song that's sounds so wonderful to ears that's based on this same raag.

Mujhe Pyaar Mein Tum
The soundtrack of Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon has been my all time favorite. I get tired neither of listening to these songs nor watching the movie. This is one song that's mostly unheard from the movie - a solo by Asha Bhosle. Song isn't too long either but it's beautiful. Even the picturization is very beautiful... Asha Parekh singing as she sits in a boat floating in a lake and Joy Mujherjee walking on side walk that's right next to the lake. The expressions of the actors tell a lot more of the story with the words beautifully penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Another hit OPN-AB combo! Fantastic!
mujhe pyaar mein tum naa ilzaam dete
agar jaante gham meri bebasi kaa
meri berukhi tum ne dekhi hai lekin
nahin tum ne dekhaa tadapnaa kissi kaa
(mere dil ne chaahaa thaa kuch tumse kehnaa
magar pyaar kehtaa hai khaamosh rehnaa) (2)
dikhaaye kisse hum yeh ashko kaa behnaa
sunaaye kisse dard dil ki lagi kaa
(meri berukhi tum ne dekhi hai lekin
nahin tum ne dekhaa tadapnaa kissi kaa) (2)
Movie: Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963)
Singer: Asha Bhosle
Music Director: O.P.Nayyar
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri
