Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas

When I first watched Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, I completely missed this one as I was too busy "watching" the movie than listening also. Recently while watching the movie yet again, I was completely blown away by this scene and the "song" playing in the background during the Gurudwara scene. As a person who doesn't have much idea about Punjabi language, I had to rewind and play the scene numerous times before I figured out some of the words in the lyrics. Then searched for the song to find this most beautiful and divine Shabad. My mind had blown! With my limited knowledge about classical singing and raagas, I was able to determine that it is surely based on some raag, but not being good enough to know exactly which one. In places, it reminds me of "saagar ki baahon mein mauje hai jitni.. " stanza of "bahut pyaar karte hai" from movie Saajan and at other times, it takes me back to "mile sur mera tumhara" and "prem deewaani hoon main... naino mein badra chhaye".

The lyrics here have a bit of a variation from the original one, but it's my favorite version so that's what I have here. All my other favorite versions of the shabad from youtube are linked below.

Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas
Tu

Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas

Tum maat pitaa hum baarik tere (2)
Tumhri kirpa mein sukh ghanere
Hey more raam, hey more raam raam
Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas
Tu

Koyi na jaaNe tumhra ant (2)
Ooche te uncha bhagawant
Hey more raam, hey more raam raam
Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas
Tu

Saghal samagri tumhre sutradhaari (2)
Tum te hoye so aagiyakaari
Hey more raam, hey more raam raam
Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas

Tum maat pitaa hum baarik tere
Tumhri kirpa mein sukh ghanere
Hey more raam, hey more raam raam
Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas
Tu

Tumhri gat mit tum hi jaani (2)
Naanak daas sadaa qurbani
Tumhri gat mit tum hi jaani (2)
Naanak daas sadaa qurbani
Hey more raam, hey more raam raam
Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas
Tu

Tum maat pitaa hum baarik tere
Tumhri kirpa mein sukh ghanere
Hey more raam, hey more raam raam
Tu thakur tum pe ardhaas
Mere raam jiyo pind sab teri raas
Tu thakur thakur...

Tora mann darpan kehlaaye...

HFM has some ultra talented people who have been contributing to it, especially when it comes to the music department. And some of them were truly blessed souls who actually did so much good for the mankind via that music that it's hard to even imagine. This number being one of those. The lyricists, the musicians, the singers, and to add to that the beautiful actors and film makers who actually decided to make it all happen. It is songs like these that makes me happy beyond words and make me feel grateful that I was born on the Indian subcontinent and understand and appreciate this beautiful language and music.

This one reminds me of so many other prayer songs. Stumbled upon the youtube video of it while listening to another one. Truly a mind-blowing song!!

aa aa aa...
prani apne prabhu se poochhe
kis bidhi pau tohe
prabhu kahe tu mann ko paa le
paa jaayega mohe

tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)
bhale boore saare karmon ko
dekhe aur dikhaaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)

(mann hi devtaa mann hi ishwar
mann se badaa na koi) (2)
mann ujiyaara jab jab khole
jug ujiyaara hoye
is ujale darpan par praani (2)
dhool na jamne paaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)
bhale boore saare karmon ko
dekhe aur dikhaaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)

(sukh ki kaliyaan dukh ke kaante
mann sab ka aadhaar) (2)
mann se koyi baat chhupe na
mann ke nain hazaar
jug se chaahe bhaag le koyi (2)
mann se bhaag na paaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)
bhale boore saare karmon ko
dekhe aur dikhaaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)

(tann ki daulat dhalti chhaaya
mann ka dhan anmol (2)
tann ke kaaran mann ke dhan ko
mat maati mein rol
mann ki kadar bhulaane wala (2)
heera janam ganvaaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)
bhale boore saare karmon ko
dekhe aur dikhaaye
tora mann darpan kehlaaye (2)

Hai chaand sitaaron mein...

What a marvelous Bhimpalasi raag ghazal! Melodious isn't even the word.

hai chaand sitaaron mein chamak tere badan ki (2)
har phool se aati hai mehak tere badan ki
hai chaand sitaaron mein chamak tere badan ki

lagta hai khuda ne tujhe haathon se banaaya (2)
hai taaj mahal mein bhi jhalak tere badan ki
hai chaand sitaaron mein chamak tere badan ki

barsaat ke mausam mein tera bheegate rehna (2)
hoti hai mere dil mein kasak tere badan ki
hai chaand sitaaron mein chamak tere badan ki

gaate hue ithalaake guzarna tera humdum
hai taaron mein is dil ke khanak tere badan ki
hai chaand sitaaron mein chamak tere badan ki

har phool se aati hai mehak tere badan ki
hai chaand sitaaron mein chamak tere badan ki

Dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam...

When I heard this song today while driving, first thing that caught my attention was the music and of course the beautiful lyrics. I have a feeling it's raag bhimpalasi. I could be totally wrong, but the way I have been wanting to listen to it over and over again says it's definitely classical and more so bhimpalasi based song. In any case, so then the evening was spent looking at the video of the song. It makes me want to watch this movie now.

What beautiful music Jatin-Lalit make and the lyrics go perfectly with the raag of the song. I am loving it!!

Mahima makes such a good actor for slow romantic songs. Reminds me of another song of hers, which I think I should post on here. Ajay Devgan looks handsome too I think and perfect to match Mahima's role.

F: dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam
oh dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam
pyaar zinda humaara rahe
yahaan chaahe rahe na rahe hum
M: dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam
pyaar zinda humaara rahe
yahaan chaahe rahe na rahe hum
dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam

F: aarzoo yehi na bicchaDe kisi moD pe
raah mein kabhi na jaana mujhe chhoD ke
chaahenge hum yoon hi tum ko
hogi mohabbat na kam
M: dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam
pyaar zinda humaara rahe
yahaan chaahe rahe na rahe hum
F: dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam

M: har khushi mile daaman mein dildaar ke
aadmi wohi ruke na kabhi haar ke
manzil manzil tum ko paaye
chume tumhaare kadam
F: dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam
pyaar zinda humaara rahe
yahaan chaahe rahe na rahe hum
M: dil yeh duaa de rahaa hai sanam
pyaar zinda humaara rahe
yahaan chaahe rahe na rahe hum
F: yahaan chaahe rahe na rahe hum

Itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha

The first time I had heard this song was in a school play when I was in 4th standard back in the 80s. I remember the tunes making a spot in my mind and heart and I fell in love with it. It was years later that I realized the music actually originated from Mozart's Symphony No. 40. I still call it inspired by the symphony and not copied from it for my own reasons. ;) Coming back to our song, I think it's very beautifully written and only this music could do justice to it. Absolutely love the words penned by Rajinder Krishan sahab and music of Salil Chaudhary is wonderful. Not to forget the amazing singers for making it what it is!! An amazing song.. I'm glad Talat sahab sung this one and not any other male singers. They wouldn't have been able to do justice to it as well as Talat sahab, I think. Sunil Dutt looks ever so handsome and Asha Parekh so young and beautiful. Who wouldn't fall in love with these gorgeous people? Anyone would!

M: itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha
ke main ek baadal aawaara
kaise kisi ka sahaara banu
ke khud beghar bechara

F: is liye tujhse main pyaar karoon
ke tu ek baadal aawaara
janam janam se hoon saath tere
hai naam mera jal ki dhaara

M: itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha
ke main ek baadal aawaara
F: janam janam se hoon saath tere
hai naam mera jal ki dhaara

M: (mujhe ek jagaah aaraam nahin
ruk jaana mera kaam nahin) (2)
mera saath kahaan tak dogi tum
main dez bides ka banjaara

itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha
ke main ek baadal aawaara
kaise kisi ka sahaara banu
ke khud beghar bechara

F: is liye tujhse main pyaar karoon
ke tu ek baadal aawaara
janam janam se hoon saath tere
hai naam mera jal ki dhaara

(o neel gagan ke deewaane
tu pyaar na mera pehchaane) (2)
main tab tak saath chaloon tere
ab tak na kahe tu main haara

is liye tujhse main pyaar karoon
ke tu ek baadal aawaara
janam janam se hoon saath tere
hai naam mera jal ki dhaara

M: itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha
ke main ek baadal aawaara
kaise kisi ka sahaara banu
ke khud beghar bechara

(kyon pyaar mein tu naadaan bane
ek paagal ka armaan bane) (2)
F: ab laut ke jaana mushkil hai
maine chhoD diya hai jag saara

M: itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha
ke main ek baadal aawaara
F: janam janam se hoon saath tere
hai naam mera jal ki dhaara

Jeevan Dor Tumhi Sang Baandhi

Raag Yaman Kalyan has been one of my favorite ones in recent times and subconsciously or otherwise I keep humming songs that are based on this raag so today as I sat down to listen to all of these songs on youtube, and discovered this beautiful melody by none other than Lata Mangeshkar. Oh how I wish I can go to Mumbai and meet her once. Just once. I'd feel more blessed. The song is out of this world and it's thanks to LP music. Bharat Vyas has penned this one. Wish I also got to see the video of the song... absolutely love everything about this one!

jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi (2)
kya toDenge is bandhan ko
jag toofaan aandhi re aandhi

ho na sake kabhi hum tum nyaare (2)
do tan hai ek praaN hamaare
chaahe mile path mein andhiyaare
chaahe ghire ho baadal saare
phir bhi rahoongi tumhaari tumhaari
jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi
jeevan dor

(so love the violins here!)

yoon ghul-mil rehna jeevan mein
jaise rahe kajra akhiyan mein
teri chhabi chhaayi rahe man mein
tera hi naam rahe dhadkan mein
tere daras ki main pyaasi re pyaasi
jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi (2)

kaisa mujhe vardaan mila hai (2)
tum kya mile bhagwaan mila hai
ab to janam bhar sang rahega
is mehndi ka rang rahega
tere charaN ki main daasi re daasi
jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi (2)

Main rang sharbaton ka..

I recently got to watch this movie and completely went gaga over this song. I think I can say it's thanks to the male singer, Atif Aslam for I feel so. Of course, my favorite song to watch is still tu mere agal bagal hai for it's so upbeat and has out-of-this-world dance, but there's a certain charm that this song has when it comes to lyrics and romance so I'm partial to this one. The words are so beautiful and the music makes me want to dance to it. Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz look their gorgeous selves.

M: khwaab hai tu neend hoon main
dono mile raat bane
roz yehi maangu dua teri meri baat bane
baat bane

main rang sharbaton ka tu meethe ghaat ka paani (2)
mujhe khud mein ghol de to mere yaar baat ban jaani

main rang sharbaton ka tu meethe ghaat ka paani (2)
mujhe khud mein ghol de to mere yaar baat ban jaani

main rang sharbaton ka tu meethe ghaat ka paani (2)

Ch: oh yaara tujhe pyaar ki batiyaan kya samjhaavaa
jaagti ratiyaan roz bitaavaa
isse aage ab main kyaa kahoon

oh yaara tujhe dolti ankhiyaan sadke jaavaa
maang le pakhiyaan aaj duavaa
isse aage ab main kyaa kahoon

F: maine to dheere se neendon ke dhaage se
baandha hai khwaab ko tere
main na jahaan chaahoon na aasmaan chaahoon
aaja hisse main tu mere

M: tu dhang chaahaton ka main jaise koyi naadaani (2)
mujhe khud se joD de to mere yaar baat ban jaani
main rang sharbaton ka tu meethe ghaat ka paani (2)

F: tere khayaalon se tere khayaalon tak
mera to hai aana jaana
mera to jo bhi hai tu hi tha tu hi hai
baaki jahaan hai begaana

M: tum ek musaafir ho main koyi raah anjaani (2)
man-chaaha moD de to mere yaar baan ban jaani
main rang sharbaton ka tu meethe ghaat ka paani (2)
mujhe khud mein ghol de to mere yaar baat ban jaani
main rang sharbaton ka tu meethe ghaat ka paani (2)

Ch: oh yaara tujhe pyaar ki batiyaan kya samjhaavaa
jaagti ratiyaan roz bitaavaa
isse aage ab main kyaa kahoon

oh yaara tujhe dolti ankhiyaan sadke jaavaa

Yeh laal ishq yeh malaal ishq...

Awesome thing about most of the new movies is the one or two slow songs that they add to the sound track. Today, while watching Ram Leela, this is the song that got stuck in mind. What an awesome song!! It reminds me of so many other songs like "sat srishtitaanDav rachayita", "shri raamchandra kripalu bhajaman", "jab deep jale aana". Makes me wonder if it's because it's based on raag yaman-kalyan because of all the songs I am getting reminded of. It has kind of a sufi feel to it also and I think that's what makes it so awesome... What beautiful voice Arjit Singh has! SLB has done such an awesome work with music of this song it makes me want to listen to it over and over again.

M: ho ho..
aye re re na na hm hm hm..
Ch: (yeh laal ishq yeh malaal ishq
yeh aib ishq yeh bair ishq) (2)
ishq ishq (2)

M: tujh sang bair lagaaya aisa (2)
rahaa na main phir apne jaisa
ho rahaa na main phir apne jaisa

mera naam ishq tera naam ishq (3)
mera naam tera naam
mera naam ishq
(yeh laal ishq yeh malaal ishq
yeh aib ishq yeh bair ishq) (2)
Ch: ishq ishq (2)

hey hey
M: apna naam badal doon.. badal doon
ya tera naam chhupa loon.. chhupa loon
ya chhod ke saari yaad main bairaag uthaa loon
bas ek rahe mera kaam ishq
mera kaam ishq (2)
mera naam ishq tera naam ishq
mera naam tera naam
mera naam ishq
(yeh laal ishq yeh malaal ishq
yeh aib ishq yeh bair ishq) (2)

yeh kaali raat jakaD loon
yeh thanDa chaand pakaD loon
ho yeh kaali raat jakaD loon
ye thanDa chaand pakaD loon
din raat ke andheri bhed ka
rukh moD ke main rakh doon
tujh sang bair lagaaya aisa
rahaa na main phir apne jaisa
ho rahaa na main phir apne jaisa

mera naam ishq tera naam ishq (3)
mera naam tera naam
mera naam ishq
(yeh laal ishq yeh malaal ishq
yeh aib ishq yeh bair ishq) (3)

Tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi...

The ghazal that I had been wanting to listen to since forever, but every time I went looking for it, I ended up listening to my other favorite tasveer teri dil mein jis din se utaari hai. So finally made it a point to search for this one instead and listened to it. What sweet voice Talat sahab had and what beautiful lyrics. It also reminds me of Gujarati prayer song naiya jhukaavi main to.

Apparently, there's also a comic number (lyrics are totally mindblowing!) by Mohd. Rafi sahab that starts with tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi. Looks like a parody written on the original.

tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi (2)
yeh teri tarah mujhse to sharma na sakegi
tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi

(main baat karoonga to yeh khaamosh rahegi
seene se lagaa loonga to yeh kuchh na kahegi) (2)
aaram woh kya degi jo tadpa na sakegi
tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi

(yeh aankhen hai thehri hui chanchal woh nigaahen
yeh haath hai sehme hue aur mast woh baahen) (2)
parchhaayi to insaan ke kaam aa na sakegi

Yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan...

Flute in the beginning when the plane flies makes every single hair on my body stand up with excitement and happiness that can not be described! I haven't been able to pick and choose my most favorite song from Veer Zaara and that's because most of them are my favorite ones. This one being one of them. It's so utterly beautiful in music, lyrics, and everything else including picturization.

M: lehraati hui raahen khole hue hai baahen
yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan
F: palkon pe gehre halke hai reshmi dhundhalke
yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan
M: haan yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan

M: woh dekho zara parbaton pe ghataayen
hamaari daastaan haule se sunaaye
F: suno to zara yeh phoolon ki waadi
hamaari hi koyi kahaani hai sunaati
M: sapnon ke is nagar mein
yaadon ki rehguzar mein
yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan
F: haan yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan

F: jo raahon mein hai rut ne sona bikhera
sunehra hua tera mera savera
M: zameen so gayi barf ki chaadaron mein
bas aag si jalti hai do dilon mein
F: hawaayen sarsaraaye badan kaamp jaaye
yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan
M: haan yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan

M: yeh barsaat bhi kab thame kaun jaane
F: tumhe mil gaye pyaar ke sau bahaane
M: sitaaron ki hai jaise baraat aayi
F: hamaare liye raat yoon jagmagaayi
M: sapne bhi jhilmilaaye
F: dil mein diye jalaaye
M: yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan
F: haan yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan
Both: haan yeh hum aa gaye hai kahaan

Jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai..

Listening to another duet I came across this one. I don't think I've ever listened to this one before. It completely blew me away... Love the raag malkauns and Rafi sahab's singing. Shammi Kapoor looks so very handsome as ever and actress so much like a mix of Asha Parekh and Vyjayantimala. It's the very beautiful B. Saroja Devi. Too bad she can't act nearly as well as Asha Parekh or Vyjayantimala.

This song takes me back to so many other songs based on the same raag, like chhu lene do nazuk hothon ko, man tarpat hari darsan ko aaj, and songs/music of Navrang.. so beautiful!

jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai (2)
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

aayi hai mere paas tu is aan-baan se (2)
utari ho jaise koyi pari aasmaan se
main kya kahoon khushi se ajab mera haal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

haaye yeh teri mast adaayeh yeh baankpan (2)
kiranon ko bhi main chhoone na doonga tera badan
tujhse nazar milaaye yeh kiski majaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

main khush-naseeb hoon ke tujhe maine paa liya (2)
toone karam kiya apna bana liya
aise mile hai hum ke bichhadna muhaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai
wallaah kamaal hai arre wallaah kamaal hai
jaan-e-bahaar husn tera bemisaal hai

LagaN lagi re tose piya re...

Someone mentioned this movie on a blog and I was curious to see the film preview of it so went on youtube to see it. I don't remember what it had except that I couldn't stop listening to this song. It reminds me of my favorite songs from films like Dharm (2007) and Swades. It's so beautiful, thanks to the music, amazing voices of both singers (I can't decide who is better of the two) and lyrics.

KS: (lagaN laagi re tose piya re
balam kesari tose piya re
lagaN laagi re tose laagi re
balam kesari tose laagi re) (2)

SG: jee mein aise base
jaadu sa kyaa kar diya hai
mogare phool si main kheeli
lamhaa har pal juDaa
tumse hi rangeeniyaan hai
saundhi si khushbuen mehki si

KS: lagaN laagi re tose laagi re
balam kesari tose laagi re

(love the music here!)

SG: hmm..
aanch aisi jagi
nainon mein neend na abhi
tumse jo mili
umang ati jaagi hai

KS: saath jo tera hai saanware.. dhola re
nain saveraa hai saanware.. dhola re

SG: chunari meri ude
paijaniyaan itaraaye
saanjh dulhan si dekho saji
lamhaa har pal juDaa
tumse hi rangeeniyaan hai
saundhi si khushbuen mehki si

Both: lagaN laagi re tose laagi re
balam kesari tose laagi re

SG: lagaN laagi re tose piya re
balam kesari tose piya re

MukhDaa ni maaya laagi re.. Mohan pyaara.. (Gujarati)

Last week on my usual business trip to PA, I ran into Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. It was a very pleasant surprise for me and meeting him and his sons just made my trip so much more exciting than it usually is. They personally invited me to attend their concert that was happening at the Bharatiya temple there as part of a 10-day Shri Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Fortunately, despite parking being a challenge and lot of people not getting entry to the concert, I made it to the temple and to the concert both and felt utterly blessed to have attended the concert and the temple visit was simply divine! First time ever I felt this unique feeling of being in a temple and being engrossed in the aarti and it reminded me of aarti they do at Mata Na Madh in Kutch, Gujarat. It was truly an out-of-this-world experience! Any how, the concert was also very beautiful and it was great to listen to the magical sarod played by the maestro and his young boys. Both Amaan and Ayaan play amazing sarod as well and it was a treat to listen to them. All three of them took turns playing for almost three hours accompanied by Vineet Vyas on the tabla. It was a treat!! One of the pieces was so amazing I absolutely loved it. Too bad I forget the name of the raag it was based on but it kept on bringing me back to this song that I'm posting today. It was funny how my mind was playing tricks on me. I was so mesmerized by both the sarod's version of this raag and this song, which I am almost certain is based on the same raag, I had to post the song. It's a beautiful Gujarati bhajan by Meerabai about how she is fascinated by Shri Krishna's beautiful face and what it has done to her. You have to listen to it to enjoy it! The flute, tabla, manjira, and other instruments make it even more beautiful along with the beautiful voice of singer, Dipali Saumaiya.

Anondo loke, mongola loke, birajo, sotto sundaro (Bangla)

Back on June 30th, bay area had celebrations of Gujarat Day 2013. About 10 or so professional singers of bay area participated in the musical morning function that involved presentation of Rabindra Sangeet. What was extraordinary about this presentation was that the songs were not in Bangla/Bengali but in Gujarati! :) That made it so much more fun to listen to as the lyrics made sense. Not just to me but almost entire audience, which I'm kind of disappointed to say consisted of mainly folks in their late 30s and above. I wish generations passed on their Gujarati language knowledge to next generations. That'd be a topic for another day. Back to Gujarat Day musical function. It was amazing to realize the quality of lyrics and the music that goes with it. The singers kept everything the same, except for the lyrics. Here translation experts kicked in and shared their talent of translating the original Bangla lyrics to Gujarati and boy! did they do justice to it or what!! It blows my mind when I read those lyrics again. Here's my favorite song from the collection, which I think is a prayer. Absolutely beautiful to listen to and totally goosebumpy. It spreads peace around and within.

Original Bangla Lyrics:

anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

mohima tabo udbhasito maha gagon majhe
bisso jagato moni bhushan besTito charane
anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

groho taroko chondro tapono byakulo druto bege
koriche pan, koriche snan, akkhayo kirane
anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

dharon par jhare nirjhar, mohon modhu shobha
phul pallab gito gandho sundaro barane
anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

bahe jiban rajonidin chiro nutan dhara
koruna tabo abishram janame marane
anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

sneho prem daya bhokti komol kare pran
kato santan karo barshan santap harane
anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

jagote tabo ki mahotsabh, bandan kare bisso
shri sampad bhumaspado nirbhoy sharone
anondo loke, mongola loke birajo sotto sundaro

Gujarati Translated Lyrics:

Tohre naina bade.. dagaabaaz re..

I love new songs like these that leave me wanting to listen to the songs again even after the movie is over. Very few new movies actually do that trick, and Dabangg 2 is definitely one of them. I think the singers and music have something to do with this feeling. Greedy me wants one more stanza in this one too. If only the lyricist was generous and bathroom breaks lasted longer. Hahaha.. do people still take bathroom breaks in Indian movie theaters when songs come up? I wonder. That reminds me of the scene from Golmaal (1979) when Helen's "mungda" song plays and Ramprasad is out changing clothes from work clothes to evening clothes in movie theater bathroom.

Back to our song: doesn't the music here remind you of music of abhi na jaao chhod kar, especially the ending part of the old song?

dagaabaaz re haaye dagaabaaz re
tohre naina bade dagaabaaz re
ho tohre naina... haaye
naina naina naina... haaye

("abhi na jaao" kind of music plays here)

dagaabaaz re haaye dagaabaaz re
tohre naina bade dagaabaaz re
kal mile.. haan kal mile hoye
yeh hum ko bhool gaye aaj re haaye
dagaabaaz re haaye dagaabaaz re
tohre naina bade dagaabaaz re

(this music reminds me of yet another Hindi film oldie, can't recall it though; love the harmonium here!)

kaahe khafaa aise chulbul se bulbul
kaahe na tu maane batiyaan haaye
F: kaahe padaa peechhe jaan pe bairi
na jaanu kyaa tori batiyaan haaye
M: zindagi apni hum tohka daan dai de
muskuraa ke jo maange praan dai de
kal mile.. ho kal mile... haaye
kal mile bhi hum ko bhool gaye aaj re
haaye dagaabaaz re (2)
tohre naina bade dagaabaaz re
tohre naina
dagaa (3)
dagaabaaz re
re dagaabaaz re
naina re

(dartaa jahaan hum se hum to usse darte
ih sab jaane mori raniyaa haaye) (2)
F: maskaa lagaao na chhodo ji chhodo
samajhti hai tori dhaniyaa haaye
M: is adaa pe to hum qubaan gaye ji
tohri naanaa main hum hi hai jaan gaye ji
kal mile... ho kal mile haaye
kal mile re hum ka bhul gaye aaj re
dagaabaaz re (2)
tohre naina bade dagaabaaz re
dagaabaaz (3) re haaye
tohre naina bade dagaabaaz re

Dil keh raha hai dil se... meri yaad rakhna..

Having discovered new Adnan Sami and Atif Aslam songs over the long weekend in July, I just can't stop listening to some of these songs. They're so amazing and I love the music and lyrics so much. Not to forget the beautiful voices of the singers to go with it. Some parts of the music in this song reminds me of khaayi hai re hum ne kasam.

(dil keh rahaa hai dil se
waadaa karo dil se
chaahe tum jahaan bhi jaana jaanam
meri yaad rakhna
oh meri yaad rakhna) (2)

hmm mausam bhale badle tum na badalna dilbar
chaahat ki raahon pe tum saath chalna
pyaar ki bekhudi keh rahi aashiqi
jaan-e-jaan meri yaad rakhna
oh meri yaad rakhna

dil keh rahaa hai dil se
waadaa karo dil se
chaahe tum jahaan bhi jaana jaanam
meri yaad rakhna
oh meri yaad rakhna

(love the music here)

jaldi se laut aanaa tum mujhse door jaake
yoon na sataana baatein banaake
chaandni raat mein neend mein khwaabon mein
jaan-e-jaan meri yaad rakhna
oh meri yaad rakhna

dil keh rahaa hai dil se
waadaa karo dil se
chaahe tum jahaan bhi jaana jaanam
meri yaad rakhna
oh meri yaad rakhna

Jeene lagaa hoon... main mera dil aur tum...

Went on Saavn to listen to new songs and am completely hooked to this one. Out of 15 new songs, this was the only one I actually liked and listened to at least 10 times in last 24 hours. What an awesome melody! Lyrics are also nice and the voice of Atif Aslam = OMG! out of this world! mazaa aa gayaa... picturization is so-so. I think Shruti Haasan looks nice. The guy needs to be on screen more for me to actually start liking. :P It's the music and voice of singers that have made me go gaga over this one. Love it!

M: jeene lagaa hoon pehle se zyaada
pehle se zyaada tum pe marne lagaa hoon

main mera dil aur tum ho yahaan
phir kyon ho palken jhukaaye wahaan
tum sa haseen pehle dekha nahin
tum isse pehle the jaane kahaan
jeene lagaa hoon pehle se zyaada
pehle se zyaada tum pe marne lagaa
Ch: hm hm hm hm ho ho
hm hm hm hm hm hm ho ho

M: rehte ho aake jo tum paas mere
tham jaaye pal yeh wahin bas main yeh sochu
F: (sochu main tham jaaye pal yeh
paas mere jab ho tum) (2)

M: chalti hai saansen pehle se zyaada
pehle se zyaada dil thaherne lagaa
Ch: hm hm hm hm ho ho
hm hm hm hm hm hm ho ho

M: tanhaayion mein tujhe dhoondhe mera dil
har pal yeh tujhko hi soche bhalaa kyon
F: (tanhaayi mein dhoondhe tujhe dil
har pal tujhko soche) (2)

M: milne lage hai pehle se zyaada
pehle se zyaada ishq hone lagaa
Ch: hm hm hm hm ho ho
hm hm hm hm hm hm ho ho

Kasme waade pyaar wafaa..

Hearing the news about Pransahab's passing, I couldn't think of any better song than this to share. The naked truth and bitter reality of life. Mannada has sung is so beautifully. Especially the aalaap in the words that get repeated twice... so very emotional.

Thrilled for they awarded him with the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2012. Rest in peace, dear Pransahab. Om Shanti.

kasme waade pyaar wafaa sab baatein hai baaton ka kya (2)
koyi kisi ka nahin yeh jhoothe naate hai naaton ka kya
kasme waade pyaar wafaa sab baatein hai baaton ka kya

hoga maseeha (2)
saamne tere phir bhi na tu bach paayega
tera apna (2)
khoon hi aakhir tujhko aag lagaayega
aasmaan ke (2)
udne wale mitti mein mil jaayega
kasme waade pyaar wafaa sab baatein hai baaton ka kya

sukh mein tere (2)
saath chalenge dukh mein sab mukh modenge
duniya wale (2)
tere ban kar tera hi dil todenge
dete hai (2)
bhagwaan ko dhokha insaan ko kya chhodenge
kasme waade pyaar wafaa sab baatein hai baaton ka kya
koyi kisi ka nahin yeh jhoothe naate hai naaton ka kya

kasme waade pyaar wafaa sab baatein hai baaton ka kya

Karvate badalte rahe..

One of my most favorite duet songs of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. It gives me goosebumps listening to the music. What mesmerizing music! I think it's tabla and sitar and flute doing it. I also hear shehnayi somewhere in between. Could be totally off there.

And Kaka and Mummu have acted so well. Couldn't have been more perfect than it is picturized. Wish I get a chance to watch the movie some day. I don't remember watching the whole thing in one go. I think Door Darshan played it in early 90s on a weekend.

F: ho ho ho..
M: ho.. ho ho
F: ho ho ho
M: hm hm hm..

F: karvate badalte rahe saari raat hum (2)
aap ki kasam (2)
karvate badalte rahe saari raat hum
aap ki kasam (2)

M: gham na karo din judaai ke bahot hai kam
aap ki kasam (2)

F: yaad tum aate rahe ek hook si uthati rahi
neend mujhse neend se main bhaagti chhupti rahi
raat bhar bairan nigodi chandni chubhati rahi
aag si jalti rahi girti rahi shabnam
aap ki kasam (2)

M: jheel si aankhon mein aashiq doob ke kho jaayega
zulf ke saaye mein dil armaan bharaa so jaayega
tum chale jaao nahin to kuchh na kuchh ho jaayega
dagmagaa jaayenge aise haal mein kadam
aap ki kasam (2)

F: rooth jaaye hum to tum hum ko manaa lenaa sanam
M: door ho to paas hum ko tum bulaa lenaa sanam
F: kuchh geela ho to gale hum ko lagaa lenaa sanam
Both: toot na jaaye kabhi yeh pyaar ki kasam
F: aap ki kasam (2)
M: aap ki kasam
F: aap ki kasam

Hum tere bin ab... kyon ki tum hi ho...

After I got a recommendation for the songs of Aashiqui 2 from Sayesha, I decided to give them a try and kind of got hooked to this one. I think it was the singing and music that attracted me to it. Arijit Singh's singing reminds me of Adnan Sami's for some reason, in a good way I think. The lyrics are not super impressive but fit in perfectly with the composition giving the song romantic vibe and makes it a fun song. At the end though, I still have to give it to the composer, Mithoon, for the world class music that makes the song what it is - fun to listen to on repeat mode! As always, the song had me wishing for more stanzas. I know I'm greedy, especially when it comes to good songs. :)

(hum tere bin ab reh nahin sakte
tere bina kya vajood mera) (2)
tujhse juda agar ho jaayenge
to khud se hi ho jaayenge juda

kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

(the music here is so awesome!)

tera mera rishta hai kaisa
ek pal door ganwara nahin
tere liye har roz hai jeete
tujhko diya mera waqt sabhi
koyi lamha mera na ho tere bina
har saans pe naam tera

kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

tum hi ho (2) (what awesome way has he sung this!!)

tere liye hi jeeya main
khud ko jo yoon de diya hai
teri wafa ne mujhko sambhaala
saare ghamon ko dil se nikaala
tere saath mera hai naseeb juda
tujhe paa ke adhoora na raha

hm hm
kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho

kyon ki tum hi ho
ab tum hi ho
zindagi ab tum hi ho
ho ho ho
chain bhi mera dard bhi
meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho
