RD Burman music always has his special signature on it. This one is the same. You can tell it has that 1942 A Love Story flavor to it. I think it's one of the less famous songs of the film. I had not come across it until this year when I heard a couple of lines of it accidently and then I started hunting for it online and realized it's more than a decade old song. Adore the lyrics of Javed Akhtar as usual. The dude is way too talented and can pen the most heartfelt feelings. First time I heard a song of Shivaji Chattopadhyay. Will have to listen to his other songs to find out whether he is actually a good singer. I felt he could have done a better job in singing this one though. His voice when he sings the sheyr in the beginning sounds wee bit like to Jagjit Singh but definitely not later on. I enjoy listening to the song nevertheless.
dil na-ummeed to nahin, naakaam hi to hai
lambi hai gham ki shaam, magar shaam hi to hai
(yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar) (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
(yeh sitam ki raat hai dhalne ko
hai andhera gham ka pighalne ko) (2)
zaraa der iss mein lage agar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar
(nahin rehnewaali yeh mushkile
yeh hai agale mod pe manzile) (2)
meri baat ka tu yakeen kar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar
(kabhi dhoondh lega yeh caaravaan
woh nahin zameen nayaa aasmaan) (2)
jisse dhoondhti hai teri nazar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar
