This is my second fav song of JWM after aaoge jab tum. I wish it had more stanzas so I'd get to hear more of Ustad Sultan Khan. It's a beautiful song by him and Shaan.
What I adore about some of these songs is how they fit into the story so wonderfully. Papu was explaining the other day how sometimes the songs are written earlier but then they could be written after the story is written too. I find it mind blowing how the lyricists come up with the (part of) story in the song for that particular scene(s).
SM: (hum jo chalne lage chalne lage hai yeh raaste
aa ha ha manzil se behtar lagne lage hai yeh raaste) (2)
aao kho jaaye hum ho jaaye hum yoon laapataa
aao meelon chale jaanaa kahaan na ho pataa
hum jo chalne lage chalne lage hai yeh raaste
aa ha ha manzil se behtar lagne lage hai yeh raaste
baithe baithe aise kaise koyi rastaa nayaa sa mile
tu bhi chale main bhi chalu honge kam yeh tabhi faasle
hmm.. baithe baithe aise kaise koyi rastaa nayaa sa mile
tu bhi chale main bhi chalu honge kam yeh tabhi faasle
aao tera mera na ho kisi se vaasta
aao meelon chale jaanaa kahaan na ho pataa
hum jo chalne lage chalne lage hai yeh raaste
aa ha ha manzil se behtar lagne lage hai yeh raaste
USK: ho ho... ho ho...
thaane kahi kahi main samjaau
ho thaane kahi kahi main samjaau
ke thaare bina jee na lage (2)
SM: aankhen khole neenden bole jaane kaisi jagi bekhudi
yahaan wahaan dekho kahaan le ke jaane lagi bekhudi
ho.. aankhen khole neenden bole jaane kaisi jagi bekhudi
yahaan wahaan dekho kahaan le ke jaane lagi bekhudi
aao mil jaayega hoga jahaan pe raasta
aao meelon chale jaanaa kahaan na ho pataa
hum jo chalne lage chalne lage hai yeh raaste
aa ha ha manzil se behtar lagne lage hai yeh raaste
USK: saajani...
saajani tumhe mat jaaniyo
preet kiye dukh hov
lagni lagaa na dekh (or is it seekh?) le
preet na kariyo ko...

Hi! Came across your post while searching for a youtube link for mine :) Beautiful song, I wish it had more stanzas as well. I feel somehow Imitiaz Ali manages to pick songs while will last forever. Do you know what's the difference between composer & music director as mentioned in this song's details?
Arshad
Arshad, hi! welcome to my blog and sharing your thoughts. :) So nice to find another fan of this song.
A composer is the one who puts together the music (dhun), meaning he/she decides how the musical instruments will play or how the singer will sing (tunes). A music director, if different than composer, will make sure they play that composed music correctly. Often times, the music director and the film director are the composers (decide what to play and how and when) and sometimes, the music director does both of them.
Once in a while, the music has been written already in the past (e.g. music of film Veer Zaara) by someone (in this case Madan Mohan) and another music director (Sanjeev Kohli in our example) instructs his orchestra to play that particular music.
Here you can watch this video about the making of Veer Zaara songs, and listen to the old audio recordings in Madan Mohan's voice where he sings in his composed tunes in those days, the wordings are different.

Hope this is of help. Enjoy! :)
It's not what you have written... The last stanza sung by ustad sultan Khan..
Part of It has been adapted from a song in vernacular which says:
Sajni..Jo main jaanti, preet kiye dukh hoye...
Nagar Dhindhora peet ti, preet na kariyo koye...

Nice article.. keep the good work
An amazing song. The singers, the composer, the lyricist(s), and of course the producer, all have come together in this song to weave a magic carpet that takes the listener to a fantasy flight of wonderland. Thanks for noticing/highlighting the song and generating a conversation around it,
Haseeb
BTW, can some body be kind enough to give the details of the vernacular song referred to by SHOBHIT DWIVEDI in the above comments?
Thanks.
