shambhu charaNe paDi, maangu ghaDi re ghaDi (Gujarati)

Yesterday, while listening to gham diye mushtaqil..., I kept on coming back to this one. That's when I realized that both songs are based on same raag Asaawari and that's what was leading me to this one again and again.

Since last week I've been looking for something related to Shivji since it was Maha Shiv Ratri and finally I found it! :)

This bhajan gives me goosebumps.

Jai Bhole Nath!

  2. Darshit, thank you. Isn't it amazing how some of these devotional songs have special moments attached to them? I love that about them. And they're such nice feel-good songs that lift our spirits. You're very welcome.

  3. TaaLo maan madaa

    TaaLo = avoid
    Maan = pride
    Madaa = plural of Mada = intoxication/arrogance/vanity

    So very similar to next line where the word gaaLo is very nicely used. gaaLo means also to melt, not just filter.

    Really, Gujarati has some marvellous literature. And for God, what better than this will I find?

  4. Thankyou for posting this beautiful song. I've been singing this since a child, but since I'm a British Born Guju I've relied on my ear to sing the words. The way this is written out helps me alot with pronouncing it better!

  8. Anonymous, thank you for taking time to share the confusing lyrics and words. It all makes sense now. Yes, that word "gaaLo" completely fits too. That's the most amazing thing about Gujarati language. You can have one word mean several different things depending upon what context you use it in. Appreciate your help.

  11. vaibhav, most welcome! Very glad to know you enjoyed this bhajan. Youtube has many good bhajans like this one. Some of my favorite ones are Jagjit Singh's Krishna bhajans that he has sung with Chitra Singh and of course some of the filmy bhajans are also very nice and easily available on there for listening and viewing.

  24. Anonymous, this one might be challenging to translate with so much Classic Gujarati in it. I might give it a try one day. Om Namah Shivaaya. Thanks for your comment and request.
