Ya Ali Rahem Ali

ya ali rahem ali ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh zindagi
ishq pe haan mita doon luta doon main apni khudi
yaar pe haan luta doon mita doon main ye hasti

ya ali rahem ali ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh zindagi

mujhe kuch pal yeh kurbat ke fakir hum teri chaahat ke
rahen bechain dil kab tak mile kuch pal to raahat ke
chaahat pe ishq pe haan mita doon luta doon main apni khudi
yaar pe haan luta doon mita doon main ye hasti

ya ali rahem ali ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh zindagi

bina tere na ek pal ho na bin tere kabhi kal ho
yeh dil ban jaaye patthar ka na iss mein koi hulchul ho
sanam pe haan ishq pe haan mita doon luta doon main apni khudi
kasam se haan luta doon mita doon main ye hasti

ya ali rahem ali ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh zindagi

Kadhi Aa Mil Saanwal Yaar Ve

The first time I ever heard of Mekaal Hasan Band was when Imran suggested their raaga darbari track - yaare mun biya. I went crazy listening to it countless times. Then for few years I never came across any of their stuff until recently when Amanat Ali from UAE/Dubai sang "kadhi aa mil" on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007. I didn't even realize it was Mekaal Hasan song until later on when I heard his song on youtube again. Since then I've been addicted to it. He has sung it soulfully. Wish he had sung the entire song. Such sweet voice he's got. Here are the lyrics of song Amanat sang. I also wish I get to listen to original song some day~!

saajaN preet lagaake door des mat jaat
baso hamaari nagari mohe sundar mukh dikhlaat
mohe sundar mukh dikhlaat
dikhlaat dikhlaat...

ho kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve (2)
mere roon roon cheekh pukaar ve (2)

kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve
ho kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve
mere roon roon cheekh pukaar ve (2)
ho kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve (2)

(meri jindadi hoye udaas ve
mera saanwal aas na paas ve) (2)
mujhe milnaa chaar kahaar?? ve (2)
kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve
ho kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve
mere roon roon cheekh pukaar ve (2)
ho kadhi aa mil saanwal yaar ve (2)

Yeh Hausla Kaise Jhuke

It is when I hear songs like this I realize the HFM has still not lost it all. I don't listen to new music unless I accidently hear it somewhere and find it interesting, then I do listen to it. This year, Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 has been fantastic in that sense. Specially for me, I've discovered some really great new melodies that I would have never listened to otherwise. When Amanat Ali sang this song on June 23, I remember I loved the song and then Ismail Darbar said that may be this was one song that deserved to be the one who won his ultimate gift. Both the versions of this song - one by Amanat Ali and Shafaqat Ali Khan are fantastic. I can't decide which one I like more. I do wish Amanat sang the entire song on the show (so greedy!) but it was lovely nevertheless. I love the soulful music that goes with the song by Salim-Sulaiman. And it was first time I read the name of this lyricist - Mir Ali Hussain. Beautiful words he has penned. Such a great contribution to HFM by all of these artists! As I read somewhere, this is the kind of the songs that grows on to you with time and it's so true.

(yeh hauslaa kaise jhuke
yeh aarzoo kaise ruke) (2)

manzil mushkil to kyaa
dhoondhlaa saahil to kyaa
tanhaa yeh dil to kyaa ho

raah pe kaante bikhre agar
uss pe to phir bhi chalnaa hi hai
shaam chhupaale suraj magar
raat ko ek din dhalnaa hi hai
rut yeh tal jaayegi
himmat rang laayegi
subah phir aayegi ho

ho ho ho

(yeh hauslaa kaise jhuke
yeh aarzoo kaise ruke) (2)

(the flute playing here is absolutely beautiful!)

ho ho ho

hogi hume jo rehmat adaa
dhoop kategi saaye tale
apni khudaa se hai yeh duaa
manzil lagaa le hum ko gale
jurrat sau baar rahe
unchaa ikraar rahe
zindaa har pyaar rahe

ho ho ho

(yeh hauslaa kaise jhuke
yeh aarzoo kaise ruke) (2)

aa...
rishte bharose chaahat yakeen
un sab ka daaman ab chaak hai
samjhe the haathon mein hai zameen
mutthi jo kholi bas khaak hai
dil mein yeh shor hai kyon
imaan kamzor hai kyon
naazuk yeh dor hai kyon
kesariya... baalam...

Yeh Safar Bahot Hai Kathin Magar

RD Burman music always has his special signature on it. This one is the same. You can tell it has that 1942 A Love Story flavor to it. I think it's one of the less famous songs of the film. I had not come across it until this year when I heard a couple of lines of it accidently and then I started hunting for it online and realized it's more than a decade old song. Adore the lyrics of Javed Akhtar as usual. The dude is way too talented and can pen the most heartfelt feelings. First time I heard a song of Shivaji Chattopadhyay. Will have to listen to his other songs to find out whether he is actually a good singer. I felt he could have done a better job in singing this one though. His voice when he sings the sheyr in the beginning sounds wee bit like to Jagjit Singh but definitely not later on. I enjoy listening to the song nevertheless.

dil na-ummeed to nahin, naakaam hi to hai
lambi hai gham ki shaam, magar shaam hi to hai

(yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar) (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar

(yeh sitam ki raat hai dhalne ko
hai andhera gham ka pighalne ko) (2)
zaraa der iss mein lage agar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar

(nahin rehnewaali yeh mushkile
yeh hai agale mod pe manzile) (2)
meri baat ka tu yakeen kar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar

(kabhi dhoondh lega yeh caaravaan
woh nahin zameen nayaa aasmaan) (2)
jisse dhoondhti hai teri nazar (2)
na udaas ho mere humsafar
yeh safar bahot hai kathin hai magar
na udaas ho mere humsafar

Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein

The first time I heard good things about songs of Zeher was when Heena said Nirmeshbhai was absolutely in love with the songs of this movie. I tried listening to it but gave up after listening to 15 seconds of one song and didn't like it, until I heard this one. After listening to this one I am a bigger fan of Anu Malik and not to mention a brand new fan of Atif Aslam's voice. Although his singing reminds me of Adnan Sami, I think he has quite a unique voice and it's clearly evident that he has had good classical training. I am also beginning to like the lyrics of Sayeed Quadri. And I wonder whether Shakeel Azmi is a relative of Kaifi Azmi...

hooo
hoooo hooo hooo hooo hooo
hooo hooo hoo hoo (2)

woh lamhe woh baatein
koi na jaane thi kaisi raatein
ho barsaatein
woh bheegi bheegi yaadein (2)
na main jaanoon na tu jaane

kaisa hai ye mausam koi na jaane
kahin se hai fizaa aayi ghamon ki dhoop sang laayi

khafaa ho gaye hum judaa hogaye hum

woh lamhe woh baatein
koi na jaane thi kaisi raatein
ho barsaatein
woh bheegi bheegi yaadein (2)
na main jaanoon na tu jaane

hoooo hoooo

saagar ki gehraayi se
gehra hai apna pyaar
sehraon ki inn hawaon mein
kaise aayegi bahaar
kahan se yeh hawa aayi
ghataayen kaali kyon chhaayi
khafaa ho gaye hum judaa ho gaye hum

woh lamhe woh baatein
koi na jaane thi kaisi raatein
ho barsaatein
woh bheegi bheegi yaadein (2)

hooo
hoooo hooo hooo hooo hooo
hooo hooo hoo hoo
aaa aaa aaa aaaa aaaaaa
(this aalap is simply fantastic!)
